It is not such an easy task for indian government to ban the cigaretted because it is a huge industry and many people will loose employment also. So the best policy is to avoid smoking as it causes lung cancer.

If you want to quit smoking then you can definitely do it. It is important not to give in to craving while you are trying to quit. There will be intense craving which may not last for very long. If you can distract yourself by doing some exercise or yoga or any activity when craving is there, just after couple of mins the craving will go and you can then pat your back for not smoking. You can get in touch with a tobacco cessation clinic and seek their help if required.

You must have abruptly given up your smoking and pain in your lungs is symptom of Body Craving for the same. I suggest that you have to go for smoking cessation therapy where you let go of the craving of nicotine gradually and building your immunity rather than abruptly giving up. Probability of you going back to smoking increases and you may start smoking again in near future. Also I would suggest that you meet a pulmonologist if pain increases in your lungs.

There are few ways to smoking cessation therapy. 1) nicotine patch
2) nicotine chewgum- if you smoke 1 pack per day you take 4 mg pieces daily and if you smoke less than 1 pack than 2 mg piece daily ,continue upto 2 weeks than gradually reduce. You should chew properly. 3)nicotine nasal spray.
