Hello, Majority of moles do not convert to melanoma. The indicators of a mole changing to melanoma is assymetrical pigmentation, Borders are irregular, Ulceration multiple other swelling etc. Pain is usually not a feature of melanoma. Consult a dermatologist.

Sorry for your mother. According to the report it is cancer. Biopsy never tells us staging. Staging means wheather the cancer is limited in that organ or spread to other parts of the body. For that specific tests are done i.e pet-ct scan. So only with biopsy difficult to say about staging.

Most common types
Basal cell cancer

Though pt1, n0 is stage one cancer which after your surgery is now completely removed. As far as post operative radiation is concerned, it is given to reduce the chances of recurrence. However according to the present knowledge we have there is no advantage of radiation in stage 1 cancer. Skin cancers are caused by ultraviolet radiation exposure, chemical injuries,post burn or marjolin ulcer etc.
Avoid excessive sun exposure and use adequate sunscreen for ultraviolet protection, avoid chemicals directly on skin and use minimum cosmetic products and be aware of their components, treat any kind of infection promptly, regular self examination for any kind of growth, nonhealing ulcer, nodes etc.

Squamous cell carcinoma of skin are more common in our country rather than melanoma due to natural protection of our skin by melanin pigment. Warning signs are non healing ulcer or progressive increase in already existing mole. Treatment is most commonly surgery, otherwise if inoperable then radiation therapy or chemotherapy.
