Dear lybrate-user,
schizophrenia is a major disorder. You need to be on risperidone kind of tablets for a long term. With adequate dose of risperidone, you will not hear voices talking to you and irritating you. You need to visit the psychiatrist at regular intervals so that dose can be adjusted. You may not need alcohol along with risperidone since risperidone is a good tranquilliser. Do not stop medicines unless the psychiatrist asks you to stop.

I would strictly advise you to only take medicines which have been given by your psychiatrist, that is arip mt 20 mg and daxid 50 mg. Do not take any ayurvedic supplements alongwith the medicines.
You can take seacod liver omega 3 capsules on regular basis, they are fine, other than this, I will not advise you for anything else.

Hello respected doctors. I have a serious concern regarding my mothers prescription. While ordering medicines online for my mother I had gone through the contents of the medicines prescribed to her by her doctor. The name of the medicine are- 1.soltus 50 2.tetrafol 7.5 mg 3. D venizep 50 mg these medicines are being consumed by my mother since 4-5 years. I had no idea about her treatment as I was a child then. But the real concern is that these are anti depression medicines or medicines for treatment of schizophrenia. Kindly suggest me that can I stop giving these medicines to my mother as it has been a long time she has been consuming these medicines and these have a serious side effect in the future. Please help as I am unable to visit any doctor during these times and I am coming confused as whom go rely upon during such times. Please help and let me know the alternative of these medicines in the form of ayurveda or home remedies? thank you.

Dear lybrate-user,
many medicines in psychiatry are prescribed for different indications. For e.g. Soltus, in different dosages is used for both depression as well as psychotic illnesses and other indications. D venizep I used for depression and several types of anxiety disorders. I would advise against discontinuing any medicine on your own, especially when your mother is maintaining well. I suggest that you have an open discussion with her doctor about your concerns and then take a decisio...more

Depends whether it was a sustained relelase / extended release preparation or plain one.
If it was an extended/sustained release preparation then it will lose its effectiveness as long term preparation by crushing it.
So not recommended. (qutan sr)
if it is a plain or immediate release preparation, yes you can crush it.

Hi lybrate-user
it's not an illicit drug which you are taking, I believe you have a valid prescription for same. I wonder why would anybody take fluoxetine and fluvoxamine silultaneously as they both are of same class and work in same way, so why do not you take only one at an appropriate dose. Regarding convincing your family member, you need to express it explicitly what you have actually gone through and how this treatment has helped you, and ask them if they also want to see you happy or...more
