Dermafrac - What Is It All About?

Dermafrac is a micro-needling process used for treating different skin issues like wrinkles and acne scarring. It is an advanced skin care treatment, which goes beyond normal skin treatments to produce long-lasting effects.

Commonly known as micro-needling therapy, the process involves a roller that has many super fine needles. These needles are penetrated into the skin to apply a peptide solution. This gives your skin a younger and glowing look and removes scars.

How does it work?

The doctor will thoroughly cleanse your skin that needs to be treated. He/she will use a device with a small nozzle containing 180 microneedles on the skin. This nozzle contains a vacuum that sucks in the skin so that the needles are injected properly.

This device is rolled over the skin a number of times as the peptide solution are applied to the tiny punctures in the skin made by the needles. As the process is repeated a few times, the collagen production is stimulated. As new skin cells are generated through this procedure, the quality of your skin improves.

The needles are designed in such a way that they penetrate as deep as required, leaving you with no pain or bleeding. The treatment takes about 50 minutes. After the session, a mask is applied for soothing the skin.

There are two other steps included in the procedure –

• Crystal Free Microdermabrasion – This is carried out before the treatment. It helps remove rough, flaky skin and dead skin cells. A disposable tip is used for preventing bacterial infections and cross contamination.

What is this treatment used for?

Dermafrac is used for treating the following cases –

• Fine lines due to ageing
Pigmentation
• Brown spots on the skin
• UV damage
• Sun damage
• Patchy skin
Oily skin
• Large skin pores

After effects and recovery:

After the treatment, you might feel slight redness or scratches but it will go away after a few hours. As the peptide solution applied to the skin is cool, there is no downtime. Skin care products like tinted sunscreen and mineral powder may be applied after the treatment.

Precautions:

The precautions required for the treatment are as follows –

• Do not wear makeup right after the procedure
• If you are under certain medications, consult the doctor before going for the treatment. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should also consult their doctors.
• Protect the skin from sunlight by wearing sunscreen for at least 2 weeks after the session

It usually takes around six treatments in a period of 2-4 weeks to see the desired results. You may have to come in for facials between the treatment sessions.

Collagen Induction Therapy - What To Expect From It?

Collagen Induction Therapy - What To Expect From It?

Collagen Induction Therapy or CIT is micro needling or medical skin needling technique that is minimally-invasive in nature. This technique can successfully rejuvenate the skin which is suffering from wrinkles, lines, scars etc. As the name suggests, the treatment utilizes a needle to puncture the skin. At times, doctors might use local anesthesia to avoid minor discomfort.

Who is a good candidate for collagen induction therapy?
There are no pre-requisites of the treatment. Just like other cosmetic treatments, it is necessary to keep the expectation realistic and maintain general health. Unlike some laser and chemical peel based treatments, collagen therapy is suitable for any types of skin. The following conditions make an individual a very good candidate for collagen therapy:

  • Skin laxity
  • Scarring from chicken pox and acne
  • Premature aging
  • Wrinkles and lines
  • Scar resulting from accident or surgery

Although, there are hardly any side effects; in some cases, people may experience:

  • Flaking of the skin
  • Skin dryness
  • Formation of scab
  • Cold sores

If you experience any of the above, the same can be addressed by the doctor.

What are the three phases of treatment?

  • Inflammation: This part involves piercing the skin that triggers the immune system to increase blood flow, disinfect the wound, remove debris and create new tissues.
  • Proliferation: With granulation cell, elastin and collagen, the wound are re-built. A new blood supply network is formed around the wounded area.
  • Remodelling: The wound gets replaced with new blood vessels and dermal tissue. The type 3 collagen gets replaced with type 1 collagen. This results in skin tightening and more glow.

How is the procedure performed?
The whole procedure takes around half-an-hour to perform. It is done using an instrument known as the Derma pen. Small facial areas are punctured with the help of the tool. Needling is done with derma roller or derma per along with some serums are infused into the skin to get the desired effect.

What to expect after the therapy?
The skin might turn pink because of the puncturing. It is not uncommon to experience a little bruising. It takes about six-eight weeks for the new skin to arrive and make its presence felt. Typically, it requires around three-four sitting to achieve the maximum result.

All About Scar Revision Surgery

All About Scar Revision Surgery

While some scars are negligible, others can mar your beauty. With cosmetic surgery, today, it is easy to remove scars and make them less prominent. Scar revision surgery can range from invasive procedures such as scar excision to non invasive procedures such as cryotherapy, laser therapy and topical silicone therapy. However, none of these have perfect results. The main aim of scar revision surgery is to make the scars blend in as much as possible with the surrounding skin in terms of colour, texture and elevation.

Picking a scar revision procedure is a matter of weighing the pros and cons of each type of procedure and - the cause for dissatisfaction

  • Functional limitations of the scar and likelihood of functional impairment after surgery
  • Patient's expectations
  • Location of the scar
  • Quality of skin type and surrounding tissue

Scars are formed due to a number of reasons such as acne, cuts, burns, surgery and infection in a wound. Scars created by an over production of collagen are the most difficult to treat. In most cases, a patient requires multiple surgeries for scar revision.

Some of these surgeries are:

1) Surgical Excision

This procedure is usually performed on large scars that do not respond to medication. Here the surgeon shaves and cuts down scar tissue to minimize the size of the scar.

2) Laser Surgery

This is used to smoothen the scars with raised or uneven surfaces. It involves the removal of the top layer of skin and tightening of the layer below it.

3) Z plasty and W plasty

These surgical treatments aim to reduce the visibility of the scar by repositioning them along the natural lines and creases of the skin. All topics that sent after editing should be considered as approved.

Skin - How To Enhance It?

Skin - How To Enhance It?

We all love that perfectly glowing skin that has no marks or signs of ageing like moles, tags, fine lines, dark circles and many others. However, for most of us, this remains an imaginary picture that we have in mind. What stares back at us in the mirror has some of the above-noted features, in various combinations. However, the desire for that blemish-free skin without any of these continues and is actually not far from reality too.

Some major irritants causing skin scars are as follows:

  1. Vascular marks including thread veins and broken capillaries.
  2. Spider nevus is a spider-web like structure with a central vessel and surrounding capillaries dilated radiating away from it. Similarly, blood spots are red, vascular spots that come with ageing.
  3. Skin tags or milia or warts, these are harmless but esthetically concerning and can irritate if found in an area where it interferes with the garments
  4. Age spots or brown spots that occur due to sun exposure are also harmless but are esthetic concern.

With esthetics attaining such importance, new ways are constantly being identified to help people improve their looks. While there are various creams and lotions and serums with promises of various chemicals that can do wonders, there actually are procedures that have a scientific basis and can produce results more quickly and effectively. The following are some popular advanced cosmetic procedures (ACPs) that can help clear these blemishes and produce a spotless, clear skin.

  1. Chemical peels: This is an exfoliation process done in the clinic, by removing the top layers of rough skin, thereby, making space for new skin to grow. It stimulates the growth of collagen and elastin, and promoting new skin growth. It can also be combined with topical antioxidants such as tretinoin and vitamin C, which are proven beneficial for the skin.
  2. Dermabrasion: Used in a variety of conditions (acne, wrinkles, blemishes), it works on layers that are far deeper than a chemical peel. A rotating brush is used to remove the upper layers of the skin, leaving the underlying layers open. The removed layers of the skin may form a scab, and can be mildly painful. The doctor may decide to use a mild local anesthetic if required.
  3. Laser skin resurfacing: The skin has an upper thicker layer and an inner thinner layer. A small amount of laser is applied to the underlying layers to stimulate them to produce collagen. The top layers are kept cool with a gel. The extra collagen produces improves elasticity and produces younger-looking skin, removing all blemishes.

All these are equally proven ways to treat blemishes. The decision of choosing one particular method should be completely based on your expectations.

Acne Scars - Know Ways Of Tackling It!

Acne Scars - Know Ways Of Tackling It!

Acne scars are not just embarrassing, but in some cases are painful as well. However, with these below mentioned derma treatments you can easily get rid of these scars.

  1. Derma rollers: Derma rollers are small rollers that contain dozens of needles 0.25 mm in diameter and up to 2 mm in length. They reach the papillary dermis of the skin (deeper than the lasers and peels). Derma roller rips the fibrous connections intergrown by scars and strongly stimulates the healing processes, that is, the collection of macrophage and growth factors. The results are visible six weeks after the treatment. They are especially suitable for people with a darker complexion.
  2. Laser Treatment: A dermatologist is the best option if the acne scars don’t reduce or fade away with time. Collagen is one of the building blocks of your skin and is an essential protein. Fractionated laser is a new technology that can smooth the surface of your skin and promote new collagen formation. Laser treatment can obliterate the scar and help smooth skin to form in its place instead. Filler injections help fill any indentation resulting from deeper acne scars. The only drawback to this is that fillers need to be redone after every 6 months or so as it gets reabsorbed over time into the skin.
  3. Time heals all wounds: Patience is very important when you want to see scars fade away. Newly formed blood vessels, a few weeks after the scar is formed, nourish the skin. Most scars in their early stages look pink for this reason. Collagen starts forming months later and fills in the injuries on the skin. Fat cells and skin are destroyed in cystic acne; so for the scars to vanish completely, it might take a year or more.
  4. Prevention Tips: The best preventive method for scar formation is not to squeeze pimple. Popping a pimple leads to deeper infiltration of bacteria and pus. This damages the collagen further. A common skin care myth is that Vitamin E helps scars in healing faster. Contrary to prior belief, the direct application of Vitamin E on a scar might hinder the healing process instead of facilitating it.
  5. Use a sunscreen: Use a sunscreen with a high SPF over 30. The middle of the day is the worst time to step out in the sun. Reapply the sunscreen every two hours, if you sweat profusely.

Burn Reconstruction Surgery - Know Procedure Of It!

Burn Reconstruction Surgery - Know Procedure Of It!

A burn scar on your skin does not only spoil your appearance but also hampers your self-confidence. You can undertake plastic surgery in order to eliminate burn scars and burn marks. Burn reconstruction surgery is an effective way to fix any previous or fresh burn scars. Although a burn scar cannot be totally eliminated, this surgery helps in improving basic functions and makes the scar less prominent or noticeable.

About Burn Reconstruction Surgery: There are two types of burn reconstruction surgeries. An acute burn surgery is carried out immediately after a burn injury has been inflicted. It is undertaken in a hospital by a team of surgeons who specialize in acute burn reconstruction surgeries.

A reconstructive burn surgery is usually carried out after the initial burn scar heals. Reconstructive burn surgery aims at improving both the functional appearance and the cosmetic appearance of a burn scar. This form of burn surgery incorporates the modification of the scar tissue. The treatment procedure for scar tissues requires several months to be successful. New scar contractures may appear for a long time after an injury. Facial burn scars, which cause problems with the eyes, lips, nose and cause hair loss can be rectified. Abnormally thick, white and discoloured scars can also be lightened by undergoing a burn reconstruction surgery.

Procedure: The surgical procedure for burn reconstruction surgery primarily involves scar release methods. After a tight scar has been released, the opening or incision made in the skin is repaired. Several techniques are applied for the purpose of closing the wounds. These include skin grafts and skin rearrangement or Z-plasty. Sometimes, more advanced flaps are required. This depends on the location of the scar and the desired results. Minor procedures are performed in the form of outpatient surgery, but in case of larger grafts and flaps, inpatient facility is required.

Tissue expander also plays a vital role in burn reconstruction procdure. This process stretches the skin and tissue, preparing the area for the final reconstructive procedures.

After undergoing the surgery, you must follow your surgeon's care instructions properly for effective healing. This would also enable you to have a long-term effect and improved appearance of burn scars. Follow-up appointments with your surgeon after the surgery are essential.

Before deciding on undergoing a burn reconstruction surgery, you must consult an efficient cosmetic surgeon and discuss the surgical procedure. You should know all the important facts regarding the surgery and also have an idea about the results which would be obtained. Non-surgical therapies can also be undertaken for repairing burn scars, which include scar massage, application of pressure garments and some other topical therapies.

You can apply aloe vera juice/gel from its leaf (fresh), not from ready made gels available in market. Remove skin of an aloe vera leaf. Take /scoop out gel. Apply this gel to your skin. Wash with plain water after an hour. Or keep it overnight. Use some sunblock with spf (at least 50) every time you go out in sun. Apply it 30 mins before going out.
