Hysterectomy - Know Ayurveda Role In It!

A surgical procedure in which a woman's uterus is removed is referred to as a hysterectomy.

The need for this operation can arise due to various reasons, which include:

1. Development of uterine fibroids that are painful and accompanied by bleeding and other associated symptoms
2. Uterine prolapse, which is characterised by a shifting of the position of the uterus wherein it enters the vaginal canal
3. Ovarian cancer, cervical cancer or endometrial cancer
4. Vaginal bleeding that cannot be characterised as normal
5. Endometriosis
6. Development of a condition in which the uterus thickens known as adenomyosis; and
7. Chronic pain in the pelvic region

In Ayurveda, the uterus is associated with the Pitta dosha (fire element), and is considered to be a storehouse of metabolic fire. In fact, this is the reason why after a hysterectomy is performed, a woman generally loses the zest for life along with her creativity and feels demotivated, depressed, sentimental or lethargic. But Ayurveda can help in regaining your vitality post hysterectomy. Here's how:

The role of Ayurveda in hysterectomy

In Ayurveda, the greatest healer of hysterectomy is the herb Shatavari (asparagus racemosus). This herb is known to balance out the Pitta Dosha, which is associated with the uterus. Not only that, this herb, whose name roughly means "a woman who has a 100 husbands," is extremely vital in reducing stress and in increasing Ojas (or vitality). It also helps in building stamina and increasing strength post-surgery, while helping in maintaining a normal hormonal balance. A woman will also experience an increase in her Sattva (or positivity) with the help of this herb.

However, just after surgery, a woman is advised to have arjuna and turmeric as they are enriched with healing properties. A combination of other herbs along with Shatavari can help in calming the mind and keeping fluctuating emotions in check. These other herbs include saffron, aloe vera, calamus, gotu kola, bhringraj, and brahmi rasayana or jatamansi.

Home Remedy For Premature Ejaculation!

Premature ejaculation is quite a common problem among men, and it can be triggered by factors like poor diet, unhealthy lifestyle, and undue stress and tension. While this condition naturally impairs the sexual prowess of the patient, it also brings with it emotional and psychological trauma as well.

The Causes:

According to Ayurveda, premature ejaculation is caused by imbalance of Vata and Pitta. Vata (with it’s quick air-like quality) facilitates quick ejaculation. Pitta, on the other hand, thins the semen, thereby allowing it to escape even before the man has climaxed.

Remedies for Premature Ejaculation:

If you’re suffering from premature ejaculation, it might feel like things are stacked against you. However, there are certain remedies that are recommended by Ayurveda

Saffron Almond Milk:

Soak 10 almonds overnight. The next morning, de-skin the almonds and blend with 1 cup of hot milk, along with a little bit of ginger, cardamom, and saffron. Drink this milk every morning

Kalonji (Green Onion Seeds):

Add one teaspoon of kalonji to one glass of water and stir well. Have this before every meal.

Honey & Milk:

Add one tablespoon of honey and a small piece of ginger to a glass of boiled milk. Pass the milk through a sieve and drink it regularly to find relief from premature ejaculation.

Ashwagandha-Bala-Vidhari:

Take all three herbs and mix them in equal measure. Add half a teaspoon of this mixture to a glass of milk and have it regularly. Dietary Recommendations

Since poor diet is a leading cause for premature ejaculation, having a robust diet is important. Include plenty of milk and milk products, soaked dry fruits, fresh fruits (especially banana), cereals, vegetables, and lettuce in your diet, but cut back on tea, coffee, and processed foods.

These home remedies may or may not be effective. For proper treatment and advice on how to deal with premature ejaculation, please speak to a doctor today.

Colon Cancer - How Ayurveda Helps You Treat It?

According to the American Cancer Society and Colon Cancer Alliance, colon cancer, which is also referred to as colorectal cancer is regarded as the third most commonly diagnosed type of cancer, as well as the second most important reason of cancer deaths in the U.S. affecting both men and women. But thankfully, colon cancer can be prevented by changing the food habits. It is also important to get regular screenings through colonoscopy, which will help you to determine the early or precancerous stage that can be treated with the removal of cancerous cells.

Colorectal cancer is deemed to be cancer, related to the food habits and it can be prevented by correcting the same. Here are the top ways through which you can help your condition naturally:

  1. Reduce the amount of red meat consumption: Health studies reveal that people who eat red meat on a regular basis are more prone to developing colon cancer. This is because the chemicals required to digest this food damage the DNA material which in turn is the main reason behind the cause of cancer.
  2. Increase the amount of garlic intake: By consuming more garlic, you can reduce the risk of developing different types of cancer, particularly those of the gastrointestinal tract. Garlic is rich in anti-bacterial properties that can block the pathway of cancer causing elements and boost the repair as well as reduce the proliferation of cells. It is also high in selenium and sodium content which are beneficial for the overall health.
  3. Consume all types of plant antioxidants: The bright-coloured fruits and vegetables, as well as herbs and spices, can greatly contribute to adding a wide array of antioxidants in your regular diet. Foods that are rich in antioxidants include carrots, pomegranates, cranberries, kale, broccoli, tomatoes, apples, cabbage, turmeric, sage, rosemary, saffron, purple and red grapes.
  4. Cook foods in sesame oil: The many health benefits of sesame seeds are due to its nutritional content, including vitamins, minerals, natural oils, and organic compounds which consist of calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorous, manganese, copper, zinc, fiber, thiamin, vitamin B6, folate, protein, and tryptophan.
  5. Increase the consumption of Omega-3 fatty acids: It has been reported by several types of research that a diet rich in Omega-3 fatty acids can reduce the occurrence of colon cancer and therefore you must eat a lot of salmon, cod, mackerel and sardines for decreasing the pro-inflammatory levels in your body.

These few alterations to your food habits can greatly help you in preventing colon cancer and you can consult your doctor for a detailed analysis and recommendation based on your individual health condition.

Ayurvedic Remedies To Treat Anxiety Disorder!

The concept of alternative medicine is no more a novel proposition. It is a tried and tested way of dealing with physical as well as psychological problems. The aim of “Ayurveda” is to strike a corrective balance amongst three essential kinds of energies present in the human body. Ayurveda classifies these energies as 'Vata', 'Pitta', 'Kapha”. While “Vata” deals with bodily functions related to circulation of blood or breathing, “Pitta” primarily deals with metabolism. On the other hand, Kapha is concerned with regulation of growth in the varied organs and cells of your body. Anxiety disorder is a crushing problem if left unattended; Ayurvedic care and certain significant changes in your way of life can treat the condition.

Ayurveda asks you to adhere to the following guidelines to control anxiety disorder:

  1. Nasyam and vasti karma: Nasya is a part of panchkarma therapy and can help in controlling anxiety disorders. Vasti is an important treatment in Ayurveda and can treat anxiety.
  2. Add these substances to your bath water: Bathing leads to relaxation and plays a key role in controlling your anxiety. You could be anxious due to familial issues or work related matters; a bath at the end of the day soothes your mind helping you to think clearly. Using ginger and baking soda in your bath water can further relieve you from being unnecessarily anxious.
  3. Drink your orange juice with a difference now: Orange juice, when taken in combination with honey, acts on an increased heart rate. It lowers down a person’s heart rate and also treats anxiety disorder. Oranges, as you know, are rich in vitamin C and can tackle stress by decreasing the effects of cortisol. Cortisol is better known as the stress hormone. So avoid sugar and try honey instead with your daily share of orange juice.
  4. Add almonds and saffron to your glass of milkThe one glass of milk that you drink regularly for nutrition and calcium can be made way more nourishing by adding saffron, almonds, nutmeg powder and ginger to it. This concoction helps in curing a frazzled nervous system thus, ridding you of anxiety disorder. Milk with almonds and saffron should be spiced to maintain the myelin sheath on each nerve of your body. This fatty layer does have a very calming influence on you.
  5. Detox therapy and medication - These can help in treating anxiety successfully according to ayurveda.
