Can try hiking up ssris, fluoxetine upto 80 mg and if these are episodic behaviors, then .maintenance ect can be tried. But with caution. But ect I would not have recommended if another antipsychotic was open as an option. Consult a psychiatrist for nearby for discussing best options. This decision is better taken after detailed assessment of impulsive behavior and trying out some behavioral methods would be possible only if patient is available for assessment.

Yes, she has serious condition and will be on medication for a long time. But she should go for therapy sessions too. You have not mentioned her age and that could be significant to her recovery too: the younger she is, the better the prognosis. There may be some genetic factors too. She should be made to cooperate because she may not realize and tend to act out and become uncooperative in therapy. In therapy she will learn a lot of skills, tools and techniques to cope with her condition. Any wa...more

Dear lybrate-user,
congratulations for continuing your interest in making your life better. Ect is an option - not tried so far. But it is not a one time treatment. It has to be given under anesthesia, may be 6-12 times. Only few psychiatrists will have ect facility. Ketamine and rtms - very very few psychiatrist will have it. Ketamine will work if you are acutely suicidal. The effect lasts for lesser time than ect. Rtms may be given as outpatient since it does not need anesthesia. But the n...more

mechanism of cognitive decline is entirely different in Alzheimer's and schizophrenia. Galantamine is used in Alzheimer's to slower the progression of cognitive decline rather to enhance cognition. it works by slowing the degradation of neurotransmitter acetylcholine by blocking the enzyme responsible for same, thereby increasing the relative availability of the neurotransmitter at neural synapse, whereas the mechanism for cognitive decline in schizophrenia is more complex and different compared...more

How to Stop Overthinking?

Bring yourself to the present moment: In other words, each time we are overthinking we cannot be in the present moment. The reality, however, is that the present moment is usually far better than the past or future we are overthinking about.
Replace Your thoughts: Yep, you can’t control the thoughts that pass through your mind but you can replace those negative thinking with positive ones.
Make a small shift in focus: How many times have you stopped work...more

Hello, occasional consumption of some amount of alcohol is almost harmless with these medicines.
But your frequency of alcohol is on a higher side, it will come under the category of alcohol misuse.
You have to reduce the frequency of alcohol otherwise you will land into problems like alcohol dependence, deterioration of mental health and other physical problems as well.

I have schizophrenia and I don’t feel like to do regular exercise nowadays. On 29th october 2021 and 1st november 2021, a psychiatrist diagnosed me 3 times with schizophrenia and prescribed me second line of treatment (sizopin – clozapine 25 mg at 7 pm and amisulpride 100 mg - freq. 1 0 2) but I did’t start the allopathic treatment for schizophrenia and opted for natural home remedies, and watching sandeep maheshwari videos for positive affirmations. Is there cure for schizophrenia? Is recovery possible? Does medicines useful for schizophrenia? If yes, then which one? Ayurveda/unani, homoeopathy, or allopathic? If no, then what about psychological counselling? Many schizophrenia patients are taking antipsychotic medicines for 10 – 12 years but not relief. Any comment on this? I think medicines alone cannot treat schizophrenia because medicines cannot alter behaviour. Is schizophrenia a lifelong mental health issue? What are the causes of schizophrenia so that the root cause treatment can be find out? Clinical psychologist advised me not to watch negative programs like c.i.d, crime patrol and saavdhaan india. Which foods should be avoid in schizophrenia case patient? What should a schizophrenic person do to improve his/her condition? I am 22 years old male as of 2021. So am I too young to diagnose with schizophrenia? Why there are no lab tests to diagnose schizophrenia? Why so many doctors’ perspective/opinion about schizophrenia differ? Why some of the antipsychotic medicines for schizophrenia banned in some places? Is there a high chance of suicide for schizophrenia patients after the treatment because after the treatment, they may feel guilty and thus prone to suicide? Am I right or am I right? At the most, what will happen to a schizophrenic people who is not receiving allopathic treatment? Awaiting your reply. Thank you. Regards, xavier siby moorkattil (extc engineering student at x.i.e. College, mumbai)

I had opted for the natural home remedies (pure ayurvedic herbs/medicinal plants/ indianjadibooti) for the treatment of schizophrenia. Nature is providing all types of remedies for every disease but the correct one needs to be directed properly. Green cardamom, holy basil leaves, ginseng, ginkgo biloba, brahmi, ashwagandha, chamomile, indian gooseberry, licorice powder, carrot, spinach, almonds, ajwain, sarpagandha, malkangani, vacha, jatamansi, lavender, shatavari, fennel seeds, gotu kola, shankhapushpi, etc are available natural ingredients that are useful in the treatment of schizophrenia without any side effects. Other home remedies can include prior notes of when a person experience schizophrenic episodes, developing a routine for comforting mental health like doing yoga and meditation, having enough sleep without any stress, eating healthy food and balanced diet, meeting new people, making involvement in surrounding environment, limiting or avoiding drugs and alcohol use, performing daily physical activities/regular exercise, listening to positive affirmations, laughter yoga, etc. If I suspect later or in future if I find it difficult to accept the diagnosis of schizophrenia, then I will ask myself a question, “for which purpose I had started natural home-remedies? Accepting diagnosable schizophrenia is a part of the path of it’s recovery. First, there was a time when society called schizophrenic people psycho or insane. But now all these terminologies are not accepted. First, there was a time when if a person had schizophrenia symptoms, then society would judge them and not communicate with them. First, there was a time when schizophrenic people’s freedom and human rights were abused. They don’t get a respectable life. Now it’s not like that. Now good facilities had came like suicide prevention helplines, yoga therapist, psychologists, ayurveda doctors, good books mentioning self-care strategies for the treatment of schizophrenia.
