Did your surgeon tell you that it is a pilonidal sinus?
If it is, then that is the course of the treatment. Initial course of antibiotics, then after the infection subsides, we have to do imaging studies with a mri to understand the course of the sinus and if there is an underlying abscess.
Once this is understood, we can plan for sinus excision with z plasty surgery to minimise future recurrence.

It looks like a large pimple at the bottom of your tailbone. If your cyst becomes a problem, your doctor can drain it or take it out through surgery. Let's have a detailed discussion to ensure proper treatment.

Pilonidal sinus can not be treated by oral medicines so usually, surgery is advised for pilonidal sinus. But surgery is not the right choice for the reason of recurrence of pilonidal sinus after surgery (in approx. 25% cases pilonidal sinus recurs after surgery). However pilonbidal sinus can be completely treated by graded ksharsutra treatment. No hospitalization or bed rest is required in this treatment. You can continue your normal routine activities as usual during treatment. For further supp...more

Hi lybrate-user.
If it is a pilonidal sinus as mentioned by you. the newly available radial laser technology is best.
But for this surgery the surgeon should have all the accessories to perform the surgery as it has to be performed at many sites over the sinus. So the knowledge of the surgeon is also considered.
Again the cost of laser is high.
If it is associated with abscess as mentioned by you. Laser surgery is not indicated as there is no tract available for ablation.

Your pilonidal sinus has recurred. It is a well known fact that in appox. 20% cases pilonidal sinus recurs after surgery (open surgery/ z-plasty or laser all have risks of recurrence) however, this problem can be conveniently treated by graded ksharsutra treatment. No hospitalization or bed rest is required in this treatment. You can continue your normal routine activities as usual during treatment.

Surgery is the only treatment for pilonidal sinus but there is a lot of chances to recurrence in modern surgery.
