Diet Chart For Diabetes Patient

In India 61 million people are victims of diabetes. Diabetes disease is related to metabolic, in which oxidation of carbohydrates and glucose is not fully detected. Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder in which the body fails to convert sugars, starches and other foods into energy. Many of the foods you eat are normally converted into a type of sugar called glucose during digestion. The bloodstream then carries glucose through the body. The hormone, insulin, then turns glucose into quick energy or is stored for futher use. In diabetic people, the body either does not make enough insulin or it cannot use the insulin correctly. This is why too much glucose builds up in the bloodstream.

The main reason is irregular meal, mental stress, lack of exercise. There are two major types of diabetes:

Type 1

  • This is popularly known as juvenile onset diabetes.
  • Here, the body produces little or no insulin. It occurs most often in childhood or in the teens and could be inherited.
  • People with this type of diabetes need daily injections of insulin. They must balance their daily intake of food and activities carefully with their insulin shots to stay alive.

Type 2

  • Also known as adult onset diabetes, this occurs around 35 to 40 years. The more common of the two types, it accounts for about 80 per cent of the diabetics.
  • Here, though the pancreas produce adequate insulin, body cells show reduced sensitivity towards it.
  • Type 2 diabetes is usually triggered by obesity. The best way to fight it is by weight loss, exercise and dietary control.
  • Sometimes, oral medication or insulin injections are also needed.

Symptoms of diabetes

The role of diet in diabetes
Meal of diabetic patient is depending on calories. Which decides on it s age, weight, gender, height, working etc. Depending on each person s different   different dietary chart is created. We must take special care of time and amount of food in diabetes. Here we are giving diet chart for general diabetes patient.

Diabetes diet chart:

  • Morning at 6:   teaspoon fenugreek (methi) powder + water.
  • Morning at 7: 1 cup sugar free tea + 1-2 mary biscuits.
  • Morning at 8.30: 1 plate upma or oatmeal + half bowl sprouted grains + 100ml cream-free milk without sugar
  • Morning at 10.30: 1 small fruit or 1 cup thin and sugar free buttermilk or lemon water
  • Lunch at 1: 2 roti of mixed flour, 1 bowl rice, 1 bowl pulse, 1 bowl yogurt, half cup soybean or cheese vegetable, half bowl green vegetable, one plate salad
  • 4 pm: 1 cup tea without sugar + 1-2 less sugar biscuits or toast
  • 6 pm: 1 cup soup
  • 8.30 pm: 2 roti of mixed flour, 1 bowl rice, 1 bowl pulse, half bowl green vegetable, one plate salad
  • 10.30 pm: take 1 cup cream free milk without sugar.

When you feel hungry intake raw vegetables, salad, black tea, soups, thin buttermilk, lemon water. Avoid it: molasses, sugar, honey, sweets, dry fruits. Foods you must avoid!

  1. Salt: salt is the greatest culprit for diabetics. You get enough salt from vegetables in inorganic form, so reduce the intake of inorganic salt.
  2. Sugar: sucrose, a table sugar, provides nothing but calories and carbohydrates. Also, you need calcium to digest sucrose. Insufficient sucrose intake might lead to calcium being leached off the bones. Substitute sucrose with natural sugar, like honey, jaggery (gur), etc.
  3. Fat: excessive fat intake is definitely not a good habit. Try and exclude fried items from your diet totally. But, remember, you must have a small quantity of oil to absorb fat-soluble vitamins, especially vitamin E.
  4. For non-vegetarians: Try and stop the intake of red meat completely. Try to go in for a vegetarian diet. If you cannot, decrease the consumption of eggs and poultry. You can, however, eat lean fish two to three times a week.
  5. Whole milk and products: Try to switch to low fat milk and its products like yogurt (curd). Replace high fat cheese with low fat cottage cheese.
  6. Tea and coffeeDo not have than two cups of the conventional tea or decaffeinated coffee every day. Try to switch to herbal teas.
  7. White flour and its products: Replace these with whole grains, wholewheat or soya breads and unpolished rice.
  8. Foods with a high glycemic index: Avoid white rice, potatoes, carrots, breads and banana -- they increase the blood-sugar levels.

Advice for diabetes patient:

  1. 35-40 minute faster walk every day.
  2. Diabetic person should eat food between times intervals like take breakfast in morning, lunch, some snakes and dinner.
  3. Avoid oily food.
  4. Intake more fiber foods in meals. It increases glucose level gradually in blood and keeps control.
  5. Do not take fast and also don t go much party.
  6. Diabetic person should eat food slowly.

Calorific requirement:

  1.  An obese middle aged or elderly patient with mild diabetes 1000 -1600 kcal.
  2.  An elderly diabetic but not over weight  1400 -1800 kcal.
  3.  A young active diabetic  1800 -3000 kcal.

Piles - How Diet & Lifestyle Changes Can Help?

Piles or haemorrhoids is a condition in which the rectal veins become varicosed, thus causing bleeding and swelling or protrusion of mass through anus. Hemorrhoids are clumps or cushions of tissue which get aggregated around the anal canal and are full of blood vessels, muscles and elastic fibres. Piles can be of various sizes and are found inside the anus or around the anal region. However, piles found inside the anal canal are way more common than the external ones and are known as Internal Piles/Hemorrhoids. In most cases, this condition can be treated by taking required medicines along with following a high-fibre diet. However, in some cases, the piles might be severe and need to be removed surgically.

The common symptoms of piles are blood discharge while eliminating faeces and abnormal enlargements around the anal region. Piles might also be characterised by excessive itching of the anal region and pain during defecating. In Ayurvedic terms, piles are called Arshas which translates to extremely painful conditions akin to the piercing of needles. This condition can be gotten rid of by availing of various Ayurvedic remedies.

Treatment

Treatment of piles using Ayurveda usually includes dietary and lifestyle changes; making most of the remedies easily implementable.

Listed below are some Ayurvedic remedies:

Herbs:

Herbs used for ayurvedic treatment of piles include Haritaki and jimikand. Diet: Permanent moderation of diet is needed for the treatment of piles.

Some dietary changes include:

Starchy foods such as yellow pumpkin and potato should be avoided and replaced with fibrous foods. Inclusion of mango and sesame seeds adds bulk to the diet and helps in preventing constipation. Natural food softeners such as ‘jambul’, ‘amalaki’, dried figs and papaya are also recommended. Vegetables having larger amounts of roughage, such as turnip, onions, radish, ginger and bitter gourd should be added to the diet.

Lifestyle Changes:

Some of the basic lifestyle changes include: Regular cleansing of the colon. Regular exercise is mandatory. A normal and healthy sex life should be followed. Aggravation of symptoms of piles is caused due to abnormal or excess sex. Avoiding sitting for long periods. Consume enough water in a day (about 2-3 liters).

Surgical treatments:

In third and fourth grade piles when medicines don't work, surgery is advisable and kshar sutra treatment is an Ayurvedic surgical procedure that can remove piles masses permanently. Kshar sutra treatment must be taken by qualified and experienced Ayurveda Doctor. Surgical treatment of piles is not necessary in all cases; only 3rd or 4th degree piles which are larger in sizes and bleed often require surgery. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Suffering From Piles - Diet You Must Follow!

Hemorrhoids are commonly known as piles. They are swollen blood vessels or blood clots in or around the anus and rectum. The veins are located in the lowest part of the rectum and the anus and in some instances they can swell which makes the vein walls to stretch. This, in turn, can restrict or irritate the passing of the bowel movements. Piles can be broadly classified into two general categories internal and external.

While there are many treatment plans of curing piles, nothing can come near the age-old treatments in curing piles. The treatment focuses on curing the symptoms from within and concentrates on the root cause of the problem. Piles or Hemorrhoid

Piles or hemorrhoid

Hemorrhoid in physiological state act as a cushion composed of arterio-venous channels and connective tissue in the rectum that aid the passage of stool, but due to excess pressure in the abdominal area or pelvic area blood vessels near the anus are engorged and swollen and their walls becomes stretched, thin and irritated by passing stool.

Classification: it is of two types
Internal hemorrhoid is located higher in the inside lining of the rectum cannot felt unless they are substantially enlarged. It usually presents as painless bleeding. Sometimes internal hemorrhoids prolapsed or protrude outside the anus you may be able to see or feel them as moist of skin. Prolapsed hemorrhoids may hurt because the anus is dense with pain sensing nerve. Prolapsed hemorrhoids usually recede into the rectum on their own or by gently pushed back into place.
External hemorrhoids are located underneath the skin that surrounds the anus and can be felt when they swell. Blood clots sometimes form within prolapsed external hemorrhoids, which is extremely painful (thrombosis). It present with pain in anal area with blood or without blood.

Symptoms:
    Itching
    Rectal pain
    Rectal bleeding
Hemorrhoid is generally not dangerous unless they become infected. Complication can include thrombosed or strangulated hemorrhoids, bacterial infection and skin fissures. Rely bleeding from hemorrhoid lead to anemia.

Causes:
Mechanical causes: any activity that puts sustained pressure on the tissue in the anal or pelvic floor area e. G.

 Constipation
 Pregnancy
 Carrying or lifting heavy loads
Sitting or standing for long periods, long distance driving, prolong working on the desk or bicycling

Dietary factors: e. G. Low fiber diet, oily spicy and processed food, food in low micro minerals etc.
Aging: connective tissue becomes less resilient in aged person.
Overweight and obesity: this leads to poor vascular health as result of inflammation and poor nutrition.

Predisposing factors: deficit in anti-inflammatory foods combined with an over consumption of inflammatory food contributes to unhealthy blood vessel function throughout the body including anal area.

    Low fiber diet
High in refined carbohydrate and animal products.
Diet low in essential fats e. G. Omega 3
Diet low in micro minerals including zinc & chromium
    High alcohol consumption.
    Obesity or overweight

All the above are the risk factors for inflammation which is aggravated by constipation, pregnancy, standing for long period or prolong sitting on desk.

Management:

Reduction of constipation and soften stool by consuming enough fiber and water.
Strengthen and fortify vascular and connective tissue in the anal area and elsewhere by consumption of anti inflammatory diet.
Lifestyle measures to avoid hemorrhoids e. G. Good bowel function, exercise and healthy evacuation posture.
    Reducing constipation and softening stool:
Consume high fiber foods as a part of high biber diet. < >Grain products: (6-11 servings of grain product in your diet is required daily) whole grain breads, whole wheat, whole grain rye, mixed grain, cracked wheat, buns, muffins. Brown ricewhole wheat pasta or brown rice pastacereals made from whole grain oatmeal ground flax, wheat germ or wheat bran in baked goods vegetables: (3-5 servings daily) dark green leafy vegetables contain heigest amounts of fiber e. G. Spinach, broccoli, green peas, green beans, turnip greens. Fruits: (2-3 serving of fruits) apples. Oranges, pears, peaches. Berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries) dried fruits (dates, prunes (alu bukhara), apricots (khubaanee) legumes, nuts and seeds:

Black bean, green beans, peas, kidney bean, lentils, peanut, soy bean
 Walnuts, peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds

,

High fiber food relieves the constipation which ultimately reduces the abdominal and colonic pressure resulting low incidence of hemorrhoid.

Plenty of water as a part of a hemorrhoid diet: water is key for fiber to function as an antidote to constipation
Avoid a diet high in refined carbohydrate as part of your hemorrhoid diet.
Avoid saturated fats, non vegetarian food, trans-fats which leads to inflammation.
Strengthen and fortify vascular and connective tissue in the anal area and elsewhere by consumption of anti inflammatory diet.

Omega 3 fat: it plays important role in maintaining healthy skin and mucus membrane. It has important anti inflammatory function which is extremely useful when it is consumed in a condition like hemorrhoids. As the consumption of omega 3 fat increases ratio of omega 6 and omega 3 lowers. It is abundant in cold water fish and their oils and in seeds and their oils e. G. Flax seeds

“flax seeds (alsi)- soak ¼ cup of flax seeds overnight in a glass of water and drink the gel on next day or boil it till the water become half and drink the gel on same day.”

Vitamin c: it maintains the healthy blood vessels and maintain tissue matrix. And increases the body immunity also. Rich source are blackberries, raspberries, broccoli, spinach, guavas, amla, lime melon, orange, papaya, pineapple, tomato.
Vitamin e: it is a fat soluble vitamin which maintains healthy cell membrane as well as the prevention of inflammation. It is helpful in healing the inflamed tissue and trying to shrink the hemorrhoids. Rich source of it are nuts and seeds.
Magnesium: it is a key mineral for vascular tone and integrity as well as nerve and muscle function. It increases the peristaltic action of the colon that propels feces towards the anus. Dark leafy vegetables are rich source of magnesium.
Zinc: it plays important role of anti inflammatory diet and beneficial for hemorrhoid. Nuts and grains are rich source. You can supplement with 9mg /day (adult dose) aaaa
    Lifestyle measures to avoid hemorrhoids:

Proper defcation technique: avoid straining when seated on the toilet. “posture key factor is that your bent knees remain higher than your hips.” this posture promotes easier elimination and avoid strain or pressure in the anal are thus contributes in minimizing hemorrhoids.
Exercise: it is an important factor to maintain the tone of abdominal and pelvic floor muscle to avoid hemorrhoids. Kegel exercise strengthen the pelvic floor muscle which is done as follow

First step – locate the pelvic floor muscle “ stop urination in midstream, now you have located the pelvic floor muscle.

Second step- lye down & contract these muscle for a slow count of five.

Third step- release the muscles to a slow count of five

Repeat this exercise for 10 times three times daily

Avoid activities that put pressure on your back e. G. Prolong standing, sitting on desk for long time, strenuous work, lifting or carrying heavy materials.
Avoid stress which is a risk factor for hemorrhoids as it aids in constipatin and inflammation. Stress release the harmones which inhibit bowel movement.
Chew food slowly which helps in digestion and absorption of nutrients.
    Take small and frequent meals.
Dinner should be light and 2 hour before retiring to bed.
Morning walk for 35 minutes daily
Meditation and exercise daily for 30 minutes without strain.
No smoking, no alcohol no tobacco
Non oily, non spicy and processed food is to be avoided.
    No hurry worry and curry
Treatment: it is symptomatic. (as per advice of physician exclusively) e. G.

Pain- local application of xylocain gel, proctocydel ointment etc. Analgesic and anti-inflammatory drug like ibugesic after meal or turmeric with milk
Infection- antibiotic e. G. Terramycin sf 500 mg 6 hourly for 5 days and metronidizol 400 mg 1 tab. Thrice daily for 5 days.
 Sitz bath.

Supplement with vitamins e & c, mineral zinc and magnesium
Stool softener like softovac sf, mucain gel
Aurvedic medicin like pilex aesculus hippocatanum
    Homeopathic medicin like aesculus hippocastanum

Things You Must Know About Piles!

Things You Must Know About Piles!

Are you feeling an excruciating pain in the anal region? Is there a lump around the area that you can feel? Commonly called Piles, hemorrhoids, is a phenomenon where the blood vessels are inflamed or expanded in the anal canal. Veins in and around the anus and rectum are comparatively weak than the arteries which are quiet intense. This is because the walls of the veins are pretty thin and pain or discomfort arises when there is too much pressure on the walls. There are two kinds of Piles the internal piles and the external piles; the discomfort and severity depend on the kind of piles you are suffering from.

Causes behind it
The causes of hemorrhoids are not certain and anyone can get affected by the condition. It is more prevalent in elderly people and pregnant women. Sometimes, the condition is also hereditary, so if your parents or grandparents suffered from piles, there is a possibility that you may develop it too. When the veins in the anal region are subjected to pressure, the veins swell causing painful hemorrhoids.

The common symptoms associated with the condition are:
- Bleeding from the anus
- Painful lump or swell near the anus
- Anal itching
- Tenderness or pain during bowel movements
- Mucus Anal discharge

Treatment options for piles
In few cases, the Hemorrhoids can be treated with home remedies like a change in diet, warm sitz baths, and avoiding foods that may lead to constipation. For hemorrhoids of the first, second and third-degree, medications, home remedies and manual methods are preferred approaches. However, when the condition persists for an extended period with severe pain it is best to consider your physician.

The piles can be treated with:

- Injection or sclerotherapy: Treats internal hemorrhoids
- Banding: Treatment for prolapsed hemorrhoids
- Coagulation: Treatment using laser
- Surgery: Opted for in severe cases of hemorrhoids

Surgery is suggested when no other remedies for piles have responded. In the case of prolapsed hemorrhoids, or the fourth degree and higher degree, surgical methods need to be implemented. In common, surgery is deemed as the last option for piles treatment. Piles surgery is prescribed particularly by the surgeons in the situation where pain becomes unbearable.

The surgical treatments
Hemorrhoidectomy: This is the surgery done to remove piles. The physician performs a few minute cuts around the anus to remove them away. The area which is under operation is put under local or general anesthesia. Hemorrhoidectomy is often a procedure for the outpatient case, and you are typically discharged on the same day itself. The patient usually takes about two to three weeks, to recover fully but then it can even take as long as five to six weeks to get back to normal pain-free life again.
PPHAnother surgical method is PPH. It is also known as stapled hemorrhoidectomy. In this surgery, the physician uses a device which looks like a stapler to reposition the pile and struck off their supply of blood so that they eventually shrink and die out. This surgical procedure is less painful than traditional hemorrhoidectomy as it removes hemorrhoid to where there are fewer nerve endings, so it hurts less. There will be faster recovery, few or no complications, minor itching, and bleeding.

Piles and Homoeopathy

Piles are painful, swollen veins in the lower portion of the rectum or anus. This condition is very common, especially during pregnancy and after childbirth. Piles result from increased pressure in the veins of the anus. The pressure causes the veins to bulge and expand, making them painful, especially while sitting. The most common cause is straining during bowel movements. Hemorrhoids may results from constipation, sitting for long periods of time, and anal infections. In some cases, they may be caused by another disease such as liver cirrhosis. Classification Piles are classified mainly in to Internal piles - occur just inside the anus, at the beginning of the rectum. External piles - occur at the anal opening and may hang outside the anus. Causes of piles Repeated pressure on the anal or rectal veins, which causes them to stretch. Risk factors involved A diet lacks fiber Prolonged sitting or standing Overweight people Pregnancy Chronic constipation Chronic diarrhea Loss of muscle tone in older adults Rectal surgery or episiotomy Liver disease Anal intercourse Colon cancer Sign and symptoms Although piles may be asymptomatic, they characteristically cause painless, intermittent bleeding, which occurs on defecation. Bright red blood appears on the stool. These first degree piles may itch because of poor anal hygiene. When second degree piles prolapse, they are usually painless and spontaneously return to the anal canal following defecation. Third-degree piles cause constant discomfort and propalse in response to any increase in intra-abdominal pressure. They must be manually reduced. Thrombosis of external piles produces sudden rectal pain and a subcutaneous, large, firm lump that the patient can feel. If piles cause severe or recurrent bleeding, they may lead to secondary anemia with significant pallor, fatigue, and weakness; however, such systemic complications are rare. Diagnosis of piles Diagnosis mainly includes physical examination which confirms external piles. Proctoscopy is mainly done in the case of suspected internal piles and rectal polyps. Homeopathic treatment of piles Homeopathy is one of the most popular holistic systems of medicine. The selection of remedy is based upon the theory of individualization and symptoms similarity by using a holistic approach. This is the only way through which a state of complete health can be regained by removing all the sign and symptoms from which the patient is suffering. The aim of homeopathy is not only to treat piles but to address its underlying cause and individual susceptibility. As far as therapeutic medication is concerned, several remedies are available to treat piles that can be selected on the basis of cause, sensations and modalities of the complaints. For individualized remedy selection and treatment, the patient should consult a qualified homeopathic doctor in person.
