Generally gums are not the common site for white patches, however it is possible. A physical check is needed to differentiate if this is common or cancerous.

Get a consultation for gum disease c/as pyorrhoea. Else you can start warm saline rinses and brush twice daily with super sensitive toothbrush and get your gums checked asap.
