A microperforate hymen is when your hymen has one small opening in it, but otherwise covers the opening to your vagina. It's a rare, congenital condition. It can cause painful symptoms and is treatable with surgery.
A septate hymen can cause painful symptoms when trying to use a tampon or have sex. Your healthcare provider can diagnose and treat a septate hymen with a safe and effective surgery that removes extra tissue from your vagina.

Physically, it is normal to experience some discomfort or pain the first time you have penetrative sex, and it is also normal for the hymen to tear or stretch during sexual activity. Remember that the presence of the hymen is not a mark of virginity. The hymen might rupture while playing games, exercising, or using tampons, so your future husband will not be able to find out whether you are virgin or not.

It may depend on factors such as your level of comfort, your level of arousal, and the size and shape of your partner's penis. It is normal for there to be some resistance or discomfort during initial penetration, but this typically subsides as you become more relaxed and aroused.

Some people may experience bleeding when their hymen tears, while others may not. The amount of pain experienced can vary greatly from person to person.
