Oily Skin - Choose The Homeopathic Way Of Treating It!

Homeopathy is a branch of traditional medicine that aims to cure diseases and disorders by focusing on causal factors. Homeopathic treatment comes to your aid for all your big and small problems alike. If you are part of the league that suffers from oily skin, homeopathy will be your answer. In most cases, oily skin doesn't lead to severe health issues, but it does cause inconvenience. It makes you feel sticky and smudgy, leading to a loss of confidence.

Homeopathic cures to keep oil on the skin at bay

Natrum Mur: A good homeopath will administer this medicine only after having inquired a litany of things about your constitution. A homeopathic preparation varies from person to person depending upon the constitution of their body.   If you have oily skin, you are prone to pore - clogging, acne, pimples and pockmarks. Natrum Mur efficiently deals with these problems. It helps in removing excess oil from the pores, making your skin glow at the same time. Prescription of this medicine is based on symptoms like inability to cope with difficulties, nervousness, intolerance to heat exposure, and an agitated disposition.

Psorinum: Your greasy skin often casts a shadow on your natural complexion. Oily skin makes you look exhausted at all times of the day. You can benefit from Psorinum as it deals with the overactive

sebaceous glands, cleans the pores of your skin, treats pimples and also fights dark patches. People who sweat profusely and suffer from body odor problems or people susceptible to cold are usually advised to take this medicine.

Silicea and Kali Bromatum: Excess oil secretion often leads to the development of pus containing acne or pimples. These pimples, when diminish, may leave permanent or long lasting marks on your face. Scars and marks further result in pigmentation. Such problems can take a huge toll on your psychological health, leading you to be overly concerned about the way you look or losing interest in self appearance. In this regard, Silicea and Kali Bromatum can work wonders for your oily skin and its resultant effects.

Berberis Aquifolium: No amount of make up can mar the appeal of clear skin. If you have oily skin, you are likely to face dullness. Since dirt easily settles on a greasy skin, it can make you look darker than usual. Berberis Aquifolium is an unparalleled medication in homeopathy that treats the above conditions without any side effects.

Acne - Common Myths And Facts You Should Know About!

Most people have suffered from acne at some point of their life or the other. However, acne is one of the most misunderstood skin conditions. Let's take a look the common myths and facts about acne.

Acne is caused by poor hygiene habits - Myth

Acne is not caused by dirty skin. Contrary to popular belief, washing your face too many times can make the condition of your skin deteriorate. This can also worsen your acne breakout. Aggressively soaping your skin and excessive use of astringent can also traumatize the skin and make it look worse after treatment. You should ideally wash your face twice a day; once in the morning and once before going to bed. However, if you feel a buildup of oil on your face, you can wash it with lukewarm water and a mild soap.

Acne affects people of all ages - Fact

Acne is most common amongst teenagers but can affect people of all races and ages. Hormonal changes and stress are two of the most common triggers for acne. Acne that begins after the age of 25 years is known as 'late-onset acne'. Hormonal changes associated with a woman's menstrual cycles often trigger acne eruptions.

There is no treatment for acne - Myth

Acne does not go away on its own. At the same time, toothpaste and 'picking pimples' are not the best forms of treatment for this condition. Acne can be easily treated with over the counter and prescription drugs. In some cases, you may also need antibiotics or hormonal medication. If left untreated, acne can result in permanent scarring that mars your beauty.

Moisturizing skin can help prevent acne - Fact

It may seem contradictory at first glance but keeping your skin moisturized can help prevent acne. Dehydrated skin produces more oil than hydrated skin. Thus keeping your skin hydrated is essential. Choose a light moisturizer instead of heavy crams.

Makeup causes or accelerate acne formation - Myth

Makeup has often been misunderstood as trigger for acne. However, makeup itself does not cause acne. The fault lies in not removing makeup properly at the end of the day. If you have oily skin that is prone to acne, choose powder based foundations instead of liquid foundations that can clog your pores. If you use a lot of makeup through the day, give your skin time to breathe at night. Ensure that every trace of makeup is removed before you go to bed.

Oily Skin - How Can You Deal With It?

We all have different skin types. While some have dry skin, others have oily. So if you have oily skin, then here are 5 tips to keep in mind, to keep your skin oil free. Oily skin is usually a constant problem in every season since even after washing the face properly it becomes very oily after some time. And, if some cosmetic is applied, then also it makes no difference, the skin remains as oily as ever. Now dermatologists offer various solutions to this problem.  Even though you might come across home remedies like the sugar and lime scrub or yogurt, turmeric paste, it is always better to seek professional help for oily skin.

There are mainly 5 skin types:

1. Oily:  This skin type has too much oil, which can be seen on the face even after cleaning it.

2. Dry: The dry skin lacks essential moisture and looks very dry.

3. Normal: The normal type of skin is neither dry, nor too oily and not too sensitive also.

4. Sensitive: Sensitive type skin is very sensitive and is easily affected by weather changes or any other factor.

5. Combination skin: Combination skin is, in which some parts of facial skin are dry and others are oily. Use non comedogenic and powder based cosmetics.

Here we are going to deal with the oily skin type and its treatment. Oily skin appears to be greasy and teenagers often face the problem of oily skin during their puberty. Oily skin can also be caused due to heredity, diet, hormone levels, cosmetics usage and humid or hot weather. According to dermatologists, diet plays an important role behind oily skin. Consuming oily or fried food or having too much oil in your diet can be the reason behind your oily skin. Weather can also make your skin oily. Humidity especially causes the oil to come out of the pores and give your face a greasy look.

Tips to treat oily skin:

1.  Use a gentle face wash or cleanser and reduce the use of toner: Use a gentle face wash to wash your face at least twice a day to reduce the oil levels.  Also reduce the use of toner, and if you use toner then try using an alcohol free one.

2.  Keep yourself hydrated: Keeping yourself hydrated is very important as the face starts releasing oils if the skin is not hydrated properly.

3.  Try the home remedies carefully: You might not know the exact concentration of lemon in a sugar lemon scrub, as excess of lemon can cause allergic reactions. So apply home remedies with discretion.

4.  Use the cosmetics according to your skin type: Cosmetics are very important for a woman and if your skin is oily, it's better to choose non comedogenic and powder based cosmetics

5.  Consult a dermatologist for quick solution: We all know that a doctor knows the best cures to all our ailments, so try consulting your dermatologist for a quick solution to your problem of oily skin.

Let us make this Navratri extra special with a few handy tips for flawless beauty and charm. From face scrubs and packs for glowing skin to hair masks and quick fixes for skin issues…  take a look at

The Ultimate Ritual to keep your Skin Glowing throughout Navratri...

1. Prep Your Skin

A few minutes of preparation before you put your makeup on goes a long way in keeping your skin super radiant throughout the nine days of fun and frolic.

Tone your skin :

Toning is an important part of the cleansing process. A good toning regimen will remove any remaining bits of oil, dirt and debris left behind by washing or cleansing.

More importantly, toning helps soothe, nourish and hydrate the skin while restoring its delicate pH balance.

DIY Home Remedies Skin Toning :

Pour some rose water in a bowl. Place cotton wool pads in it and let it soak in the rose water. Keep the bowl in the fridge. After 15 minutes, remove the bowl and start with wiping your face with the soaked cotton pad. On the cheeks, wipe with outward and upward movements in such a way that each stroke ends at the temples. Lastly, pat the skin with the cotton wool pads and wipe it gently with a soft napkin.

Scrub your skin

Dead skin cells, sweat, dirt, and oil can accumulate and build up on the surface of your skin, day after day. These leave your complexion a little dull and even flaky. Exfoliating with a face scrub can remove this build-up, leaving you with skin that feels clean, smooth and glowing.

DIY Homemade Peel scrub

Mix powdered almonds with yoghurt. Add dried and powdered mint and basil leaves. Apply the mixture on the face and leave it on for a 15 minutes. Rub gently, with small circular movements. Wash off with water.

Homemade scrubs can work wonders on the skin by removing the dead skin cells and making the skin brighter.

Mask is Must :

Face masks are the perfect skin care treatment to help you with your skin care concerns. The right face mask can help hydrate skin, remove excess oils and help improve the appearance of your pores. They're also an excellent way to help pull out impurities. Masks can deliver higher concentrations of active ingredients to plump, hydrate, and balance the skin. A face mask completes the skin prep regimen leaving your skin smooth and soft.

Refreshing Rose water pack

In a bowl, mix 1 teaspoon rose water and 1 teaspoon milk powder. Mix into a paste and apply on the face. Wash off after 20 minutes. For oily skin, replace milk powder with Fullers earth (multani mitti) for the same paste. After applying the face mask, take two of the cotton wool pads soaked in rose water and use them as eye pads.

Skin Conditioning Fruit pack :

Mix grated apples with ripe papaya pulp and mashed banana. Add a little yoghurt or lemon juice. Apply it all over your face and neck and leave it on for half an hour. Wash it off.

2. Enticing Eyes : If you love to enjoy garba every night, then you need to look out for eye bags or puffy eyes.

So the best and natural way to do it is by getting enough sleep. Get 8 hours of sleep every single night

DIY Homemade Cucumber Mint Eye Mask

Blend a cucumber with 4-5 mint leaves. Add a small amount of water to thin the  juice. Dip 10-15 cotton pads in the juice and gently squeeze them to get rid of excess juice with your palm. Place the cotton pads flat and separated in a clear bag and freeze them until they are iced. At the end of the day, just take two cotton pads out of the bag and place them over your eyes for around 20-25 minutes.

Cucumber is high in water content and vitamin K, which plays a huge role in refreshing and bringing your tired eyes back to a healthy state. Cucumber is also very effective in reducing the appearance of dark circles, hydrating and soothing the skin around your eyes. Mint has a cooling effect and soothes and removes the under eye bags making your eyes more youthful and lively. By soaking the cotton pads in the cucumber juice and refrigerating them, you can maximize the benefits and have your masks ready whenever you need them.

3. Make up :

Always go for waterproof makeup.

Navratri falls in the hot humid month of October. The dancing makes you excessively sweaty.

Waterproof makeup will keep your eyeliner, lipstick and foundation in place.

Apply a light foundation. Don't go all out with your foundation because when you sweat, the foundation will start to look cakey.

Do remember to remove the makeup however tired you are.

Use these skin-friendly makeup removers to keep your face blemish free.

Soak a cotton ball in milk with a few drops of almond oil to remove your make-up.

Wipe away your eye make-up or bold lip colour with cotton ball soaked in baby oil.

4. Flaunt your Back

Navratri is the perfect time to wear those backless cholis and blouses.

But before you do that it is better to get your back waxed and polished.

DIY Rejuvenating Turmeric Back  Scrub : Mix 1 cup sugar, 2 teaspoon turmeric powder and 1 1/2 cup of coconut oil to make a coarse paste. Apply this paste and gently massage the mixture, in circular motions, on your skin. Wash the mixture off with luke warm water.

This works as quick fix for your dull back skin, making it clear, smooth and shining.

5. Prep Your Hair :

You would love to flaunt Your  Luscious Long Hair at Garba and Dandiya Nights.

For dull hair, have a quick conditioning treatment before your shampoo.

Conditioning Hair mask

Mix one teaspoon of vinegar and almond oil. Massage into the hair. Do the hot towel wrap. Wash hair after half an hour. Hair will look smooth, bouncy and shiny.

To soften rough, bushy or frizzy hair, mix some water with a creamy hair conditioner and put it in a spray bottle. Spray the mixture on the hair. Then comb the hair, so that it spreads through the hair.

6. Hands and Feet Care

Give yourself a manicure and pedicure well before Navratri begins. If you don’t have time for one, rub your hands and legs with a mixture of sugar and lemon juice.

7. Hydrate :

Continuous and vigorous dancing tends to dehydrate you and your skin. Hydrating your body with ample water is the first trick to a glowing skin during dandiya. Have everything from water, fresh juices, lime water and coconut water as well. This will hydrate your body and give your skin a glow from within. Increase your fluid intake at least by a litre. A helpful tip is to carry lime juice concentrate with sugar, black salt and black pepper powder added. All you have to do is to add water to the concentrate, take a break and sip it slowly … and you will feel as energetic as ever.

8. Relive your feet

Dancing your heart out can cause your feet to revolt.

And you have 9 whole days to dance your heart out.

A simple remedy can help to soothe your aching feet and you are back again with your dancing shoes on ...

The Invigorating Foot Bath

You will require 1/2 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup Epson salt, 1 cup apple cider vinegar, 5 or 6 drops of lavender (alternatively basil or rosemary) essential oil.

Fill a tub big enough to hold both your feet comfortably and fill it with hot water. Add all the ingredients and relax. Add marbles into your foot bath and roll your feet over them for a massage.

9. Skin Allergies

Jewellery, costumes and sweating can cause irritation and sometimes red rashes, itchiness, pricking on skin or boils.

Remember to remove the jewellery before sleeping. Wipe them with a soft cloth to remove the sweat and grime on them (It maintains the jewellery and reduces the chances of allergies)

Remove makeup gently with baby oil. Apply ice compresses on the affected area. Application of little baby oil or virgin coconut oil will soothe the skin.

See a Dermatologist immediately if rashes persist or increase or if there are angry boils.

How To Take Care Of Oily Skin?

How To Take Care Of Oily Skin?

Oily skin results from overactive sebaceous glands that produce excessive sebum, which can clog pores of the skin. Clogged pores result in inflammation on the skin, thus causing breakouts. Oily skin can also appear shiny and dirty as oil tends to attract dirt. Oily skin also makes you prone to white heads, black heads and pimples. Open pores is another concern that people with oily skin have. These open pores can look disfiguring on the skin and lead to acne flare ups. You should focus on keeping your skin clean to prevent breakouts. It is recommended to undergo facials to keep your skin healthy and refreshed, and thus reduce oiliness on the skin.

Ways to Control It-

  1. Facials help in renewing dead skin cells and improving blood circulation on the skin. This also helps in getting rid of the waste from under your skin to remove the puffiness. With this process, the pores are cleaned effectively so that there is no buildup of impurities. Any cleansing treatment for oily skin should also focus on controlling the oil so that the skin remains oil free for a long time period.
  2. You can also use a facial that uses botanical extracts such as burdock roots, kudzu and chamomile flower. These ingredients help in controlling and normalizing oil production and help to remove dirt and impurities from your skin effectively.
  3. If you have a skin that is acne prone, then you need to adopt a slightly different approach. Use a cleanser made from tea to soothe any inflammation on the skin. The toner should contain salicylic acid because of its anti-inflammatory properties that help in regulating oil production.
  4. Use a mask that is made out of sea mud to clean your pores efficiently. This mud absorbs extra oil and also prevents further breakouts. You may also use a mask that consists of buttermilk and synergistic tea blend to cool your skin.

Oily skin requires moisturizing, just like any other skin type. In this regard, make sure the moisturizers you use are mostly water based and oil free. The moisturizers should contain zinc oxide as it protects your skin and also reduces the redness of your skin that results from acne.

How Should You Deal With Oily Skin?

Dermatologist, Chennai
How Should You Deal With Oily Skin?

With oily skin, the constant feeling of stickiness, excessive pimples, and never-feels-fresh can be extremely stressful. The skin, by its nature, has oil and sebaceous glands in the underlying layers, and an excess amount of these glands can lead to skin being extremely oily. There are, however, various products available in the market that are specifically meant for oily skin types. In addition, there are various things that can be included as part of regular skin care to manage oily skin to leave you with more glowing, less oily appearance.

Read on to know more.

  1. Face wash: Regular cleaning, at least twice a day, is one of the best skin care regimen to manage an oily skin. Warm water and soap or a non-soap cleanser should be used to wash the face. These contain substances like benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and you might have to try a couple of products to see what would suit you best. If you have acne, benzoyl peroxide would also help control acne. In the initial days, it might cause some redness and itching, but will soon subside. Also, be careful not to overwash it in an attempt to wash off the oil constantly. This can cause dryness and irritation too. If the oiliness is too much to manage, then using blotting pads or even regular tissue paper to remove the oiliness during the day can be useful.
  2. Choosing cosmetics: Using oil free or water based cosmetics is more beneficial and helps control the oiliness. Also, choosing a right moisturizer and applying it rightly is very essential. The face is not evenly oily, some parts would be oilier than others. A moisturizer with petrolatum or lanolin should be avoided.
  3. Skin contact: With oily skin, avoid hair falling onto your face, as also hands, especially if you have nails. There is a high tendency to pick on acne which only increases the spread.
  4. Skin toner: An oil free, alcohol free toner can be used on the oiliest patch. This will be light on the skin and help reduce the sticky feeling. While using this, keep in mind the patches that are oily and dry and apply it only on the areas that are oily.
  5. Sun exposure: Limit sun exposure by using oil-free, water-based sun screen products. This is essential to block pores and provide sun protection.
  6. Exacerbating factors: While sebaceous glands usually become active during puberty and subside over a few years, for some, they may continue to be active into adulthood. This causes acne, and is aggravated by humid or cold weathers, stress, or by certain foods. Identify these changes and try to avoid them.

These simple, easy-to-follow measures will definitely help manage oily skin much more effectively.

Oily Skin - 8 Important Factors You Need To Consider!

Oily skin is a result of overactive sebaceous glands that produce excessive oil, thus giving the skin its characteristic greasy look. Oily skin is usually caused by a number of factors, such as stress, food, genetics and hormonal changes in the body. Blackheads, whiteheads and acne are some complications that can result from oily skin.

It is important to take care of oily skin to prevent breakouts. Mentioned below are 8 tips to assist you in your skincare regimen:

  1. Use warm water to clean your skin: Cleaning your face with warm water opens up the pores and clears the dirt from; thus removing the layer of oil from the face more effectively than cold water.
  2. Face masks: You may use face mask, such as sandalwood or fuller earth to get rid of the excessive oil on the skin. In addition to removing oil, it also cleans and removes impurities from the skin.
  3. Limit scrubbing: You should restrict exfoliating your face 2 to 3 times a week as too much exfoliation may result in excessive oil production. Over scrubbing may cause the skin to lose its natural oils and turn dry.
  4. Use a toner: You may apply toner on the skin regularly for its astringent properties, that help in cooling and soothing the skin. It also reduces pore size, which thus decreases oil production.
  5. Diet: Diet plays an important role in the health of your skin, so consuming too many oily and fried foods can increase the chances of getting acne and pimples on your skin. Eat more vegetables and fruits to keep your skin healthy.
  6. Stay hydrated: Drinking water regularly helps in replenishing the lost fluids from your body and it also improves overall body health.
  7. Use medicated pads: To freshen up your face, use wet tissues or medicated pads to soak up the oil, which shall help in freshening up your face.
  8. Choose makeup wisely: It is not recommended to use heavy makeup if you have an oily skin. Instead use water based makeup that is light and oily skin friendly.
