When the aortic valve opening is narrowed, your heart must work harder to pump enough blood into the aorta and to the rest of your body. The extra work of the heart can cause the left ventricle to thicken and enlarge.

Dear lybrate-user
sorry to hear this. Pneumothorax is air in the lungs. It is not always critical. Depends on how severe it is. However, you mentioned that your father has been on the ventilator. Whether the situation is critical will also depend on how his reponse to ventilator has been. Speak freely to the consultant treating your father. All the best.

As your mother is having metastatic lung cancer she would have had primary site if her cancer somewhere else in her body which after treatment or with no treatment now has reached her lungs. The ideal treatment for your mother is to go for radio or chemo therapy but as a family member if you have decided not to go for that there are palliative treatment options available for her which will not treat the cancer but can give her some relief from her severe bone pain.
Thanks and kindly feedback...more
