It depends on what your complaints are. The basic investigation for the peripheral arterial disease is "Arterial Duplex scan of the affected lower limb" Depending on the doppler scan report, the vascular surgeon will assess and advise regarding the further management.

Hi lybrate-user, While artery blockages rarely regress, it can be stabilized with lifestyle measures. Diet low in carbohydrates (particularly simple carbohydrates like potato, rice etc.), minimal sugar or sugary products, and limited saturated fat are some of the established dietary recommendations. Diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables are good for health as well.
If you have extra kilos on your weight, loosing those may also help. Weight loss is best achieved by caloric reduction.

Cooking oil needs to be chosen carefully to maintain heart health and optimum levels of cholesterol in the body. I advise using oils or fats which are least processed and are indigenous like desi ghee, mustard oil, coconut oil, sesame oil and other'kachhi ghani 'oils (filtered but not refined). Many latest studies point out the benefits of Indian Ghee and locally produced oils which have not been refined. But whichever fat medium you use, the quantity needs to be controlled.

The CAD (Coronary Artery Disease) is a condition where the blood flow in your arteries is impaired. This happens when the blood vessels that supply blood to your heart are damaged. As a result, plaque builds up in the arteries and the blood flow to the heart is decreased.

This will eventually lead to chest pain or angina and other symptoms. If the arteries are blocked completely, you may suffer a heart attack later on. It is one of the leading causes of death and heart attacks all over ...more

Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) is a traditional and well established surgical procedure for treating diseases in the coronary artery. The process is carried out by using blood vessels alternately (vein or artery). Initially, CABG was performed by using the left internal mammary artery and saphenous vein. It was observed that the chance of occlusion in the vein grafts was much higher than the arterial grafts. In the last decade, total arterial grafting, which uses all the arterial conduit...more
