You need to stick to one treatment amd solve it all. In physiotherapy initially you are advised to do the electrotherapy and once pain subsides start the exercises to strengthen the paraspinal muscles and also do stretches to relax the pinched nerve. Even cupping therapy helps. The exercise regime has to be continued post treatment too inorder to keep your spine healtgy.

Yes you can continue gym, but make sure you don't do heavy abdominal and core Exercise as of now unless your pain subsides significantly.
Don't do any backward bending Exercise.
