Dear lybrateuser,
- Do not wear tight shoes as the pressure on on the nails leads to diminished blood supply causing the nail to become dead
- do not try to remove the dead nail yourself, consult a close by doctor if nail doesn' t fall of by its own
- avoid alcohol & smoke if you do
- do regular exercise with proper fit shoes for healthy nails as it improves the blood supply
- for pain take a pain relief tablet after meals.

infected toe nail could be due to fungal as well as bacterial reasons, depending upon severity of toe nail and cause of toe nail can advice right medication, but in mean time you can Soak your sore toe in warm water for 15 minutes 2 to 3 times each day, attach picture of your infected toe nail for right medicine.
