Hi, I have a disc-osteophyte complex with for foramina stenosis, the degenerative disc in my cervical spine. My previous doctor had me on hydrocodone 7.5 every 4 hours, so 6 tablets a day. I was sent to a pain specialist and he cut my medicine in half to only 3 tablets a day. I have been waking up in severe pain to where I want to die. So I either had to stay awake with the pain and cry or take another tablet. I took another tablet. This has happened several times this month and now I do not have the 5 tables to take to my appointment in the morning for him to count. I am worried that he will dismiss me from his practice and no longer write meds for my pain. Is it routine for pain drs to dismiss patients for running out early? How can I talk to him without him treating me like a drug addict?

Since you are in pain no doctor will dismiss you.
Steroids are not the solution for your pain and short-term popping in of steroids will not give you any pain relief,
you have to be on alternative form of treatment like physio, local modalities, mild pain killers etc ,after a detailed evaluation of your cervical spine mri and if needed immobilisation with collar. Since you are only 30 years degenerative changes are unlikely to be cause of your pain please consult an ortho or pain spe...more
