Hi lybrate-user
you can definitely try half a tablet although it’s a very mild dose.
I’d suggest you get a consultation and change your medications.
There are several types and classes of medications available for depression and anxiety which will not have the side effects you mention.
You can try other medication combinations for the same.
Hope this helps

Dear Samunder,
You can definitely try therapy for 5-6 months along with these medicines. Then, when you are able to deal with your negative automatic thoughts, you can challenge yourself by reducing and stopping these medicines.

Dear Pradeep,
I don't know, since how long you are taking these medicines. I don't know the diagnosis of your disorder. All these 3 medicines have been started at a low dose for you to tolerate the side effects. After 2-3 weeks, it will be increased to an effective dose. Then, there will be improvement. Please inform your doctor about the effective medicine and dose of it, in your previous episode.

The most effective solution for dealing with anxiety for me personally was waking up early. I am not a morning person but once I tried this, I was surprised how good this made me feel. It helped me find peace and calm myself down. Having so much time in my hand I could do small things that made me happy and I felt a sense of accomplishment just by waking up early. I feel the most anxious during the night- so sleeping early really helped me tackle it to a great extent.

As per research, a depressive episode should show improvement by minimum 9 months, provided it is treated adequately. And that is the recommended duration for taking medicines, when the patient is having depression for the first time. Regarding tapering of doses, it will be done gradually as per the patient's symptoms over a year. Please do not discontinue any psychiatric medicines suddenly or without supervision and always discuss openly with your psychiatrist in case of any side effects. It he...more

Dear Nandlal,
Both are good. Such combination studies are not done usually. So, you can use whichever combination works for you. But at the age of 64, it is better to use etizolam.

Dear Lidia,
Since how long are you taking citalopram? Usually this weird sensation settles down in 3-5 days. If it is not settled, please consult your doctor again. She/he may add an anxiolytic for 3-4 weeks or may shift you to another group of antidepressants.
