Oncologist•
Hello lybrate-user. I think there is some metastatic involvement of vertebrae. If this is the case chemotherapy and pain killers will not work. You should have your father's spinal CT/MRI scan done and plan for localised palliative radiotherapy to spine, as your oncologist advise.

You have not mentioned his age. I would suggest only metronomic chemotherapy, and have a good quality of life.

Treatment goes in 3 ways depending on the condition:
1. Induction therapy:
kills leukemia cells in the blood and bone marrow to induce remission. Treatments include chemotherapy and corticosteroids. 2. Consolidation therapy
This include more chemotherapy and may include stem cell transplant.
3. Maintenance therapy: This also prevents any remaining leukemia cells from growing. This may be done using lower doses of chemotherapy than those used during induction or consolidation.

Dear lybrate-user,
Unfortunately, till to date we have not been able to understand the mechanism of relapse with respect to the diet or immunity. Once therapy is over, as declared by the Hematologist, follow up at regular intervals is the best practice.
