What is nasal polyps?

Nasal polyps are soft, painless, non-cancerous growths on the lining of your nasal passages or sinuses. They are caused by chronic inflammation due to allergies, infection, or other irritants.

Nasal polyps can block the passage of air and interfere with normal breathing, which may lead to sleep problems, sinus infections, postnasal drip and loss of smell. Treatment for nasal polyps often includes medications and surgery.

You maybe suffering from allergic rhinitis along with your nasal polyp problem. You need to avoid the cause of your allergies and also take anti allergy medications. Please consult for prescription. If you have an infection and have fever you will need to do a course of antibiotics. For now do warm saline gargle and steam inhalation 3 times a day.
You will need to use a steroid nasal spray to control the size of your polyps.

Nasal polyp may or may not require surgery depending on its size, site etc. In case it needs surgery it is done by endoscopy. In a corporate hospital where I work it may cost around sixty to seventy thousands minimum. These surgeries are sophisticated. U have to stay in hospital for 1 day. U can start all normal activities within 7 days.

It depends on extension of disease that can be assessed by ct scan. If disease is limited it can be treated by medication and nasal spray otherwise surgery (fess i. E functional endoscopic sinus surgery) is preferred choice for nasal polyps with less chance of recurrence if done properly and using latest instruments like microdebrider.

The cost of surgery depends on various factors and may vary per hospital and medical service providers. You may need to discuss it further over a call for a further detailed consultation.
Thanks.

It depends upon the etiology. If the polyps are fungal in origin, then chance of recurrence is high. Also in a country like India where dust and pollution is everywhere, curing polyps is very difficult cos the patient goes back to the same environment after surgery. I have had many patients who never had recurrence after they settled in Europe or America. Middle East and Asia are hot and dusty which is perfect for polyps. Plus genetic factors like allergy, asthma, etc also increase recurrence. P...more
