My boyfriend (age 27) has had this all day every day hacking/throat clearing cough with mucus since january. I've been begging him since to get it checked. He waited 4 months until april & finally went. Well, the chest x-ray came back clear. But then why is he still coughing? I'm exhausted of this, not knowing what it is, but hearing it all day every day, anxious beyond belief while he claims he's "fine" when it's not normal.

No mention of duration of cough, other complaints like fever cold wheeze etc. And past history of allergy to some agent. Take any over the counter cough expectorant. Explore any specific cause of allergy. If cough persists beyond 3 weeks consult a physician for investigations.

I am currently on isotretinoin. Dr. prescribe me with erythromycin for cough. Can I take it?

There is no any documented interaction between the two. However erythromycin inhibits cytochrome enzyme which metabolises isotretinoin. So it may cause side effects if the doses are high. You can also use alternative to erythromycin to be on safe side.

Blood in sputum is definitely something to be serious about especially if it is occur many times.
Get chest x-ray and sputum for tb examined if it is for more than 2 weeks. Do contact me for further diagnosis and treatment if you feel necessary.

I am coughing continuously for more than 3 months, by taking medicine it show some relax but again when the medicine power goes off, coughing begins again. I have drink a lot of cough syrup bottles still show no effect. I find it strange that people around me is not coughing in this summer season but I cough at every time. No details about treatment taken. No mention about fever, breathlessness, wheezing sounds, on breathing or coughing, history of cold or allergy in atmosphere. Any cough present for more than 3 weeks you should consult physician internal medicine md, or pulmonologist for detail clinical examination, related tests, proper diagnosis and further management.

The medicine is found to have slight risk in pregnancy but in your case the benefits outweigh the risk as your cough if not improved can be more harmful to the baby. Continue with the advice and also take saline gargles or steam inhalation.
