Hello, I am a metastatic lung cancer patient and I have been having reddish blood colored bumps or knots on my arms, back, and legs for the last 3 months. They are very painful and have a very hard bump inside of the red area. Could these be a sign of bone cancer?

They can result from a number of conditions, including infections, allergic reactions, skin disorders, and skin cancer. Skin bumps can vary in appearance and number depending on the cause. I am sorry to hear about your concern but will be happy to assist you. Organ toxicities may be more problematic in the elderly, but in most tumours, the efficacy of chemotherapy is not age dependent. Chemotherapy, where indicated for advanced cancer, can therefore be safely and effectively used in selected elderly patients. Managing advanced cancer in the elderly is an increasing problem. A friend told me a child can get lung cancer if he inhale smoke of even one party popper (those small fireworks that kids use at birthday parties) is this true?

Dr.Sharyl Eapen George 93% (1176ratings)

Dear user, it is not necessary that only exposure to smoke causes lung cancer. There have been cases where people who are not exposed to smoke or cigarettes in any form but they have lung cancer. It is completely based on genetics and the body's immunity. You can consult me for more doubts regarding this online by clicking on my photo and booking an appointment however, if you found my answer helpful, please leave a positive feedback as it helps me with my practice. Thank you.

Hi lybrate-user can you name the pain killer tablet he is using and the frequency. So that we can add another or change the frequency as pain control is very important in malignancy. Need to titrate the doses and add different groups of medicines for pain.

aap mujhe call kar sakte hain taki aapki problem ko details mein samajhkar treatment btaya ja sake.

I am sorry to hear about your concern but will be happy to assist you. After 2–5 years: the risk of stroke drops to that of someone who does not smoke, according to the cdc. After 5–15 years: the risk of mouth, throat, esophagus, and bladder cancer is reduced by half. After 10 years: the risk of lung cancer and bladder cancer is half that of someone who currently smokes. Yes. This may happen in some cases. Typically after 6 cycles of double agent chemotherapy we keep patient on maintainance therapy with pemetrexed till disease progression. Else pt will need to be put on 2 nd line chemotherapy or immunotherapy. Other options include oral targeted therapy if she is positive for either of mutations like egfr, alk, ros 1, met, braf which can be checked on biopsy tissue.

My uncle is in the fourth stage of lung cancer. He is of the age around 40-45. The doctor has asked him to take chemotherapy and it will be starting from this monday since he has been diagnosed with the disease just yesterday that's on 01/10/2020. He is physically unwell too. Now my question is, how long can he survive or be alive after having chemotherapy? What is the chance of survival?
