Leucoderma is one of the most common diseases today; we can easily find people around us having “white patches” on different parts of their body, which clearly indicates they are suffering from the disease of Leucoderma. In the beginning these patches can be easily seen on the body parts which are exposed to the sunlight but have the tendency to get enlarged and affect other parts later, if not treated effectively.
Commonest reasons behind the occurrence of these patches are due to the destruction of melanocytes present on the skin which results into de-pigmentation of the skin. Other causes are hormonal imbalances, improper hygiene, health problems, liver dysfunction, ulcers, impurities of blood, stress and it can inherited from generations to generations also.
There are various misconceptions about the disease that non- vegetarians are at higher risk in comparison to vegetarians, but the researches and studies have proved that vegetarians can be at the risk of same nature. It is a known fact that consuming meat (fish) and milk together can bring discoloration on the skin then how does vegetarians can get affected?
Vegetarians are also equally prone to the disease with their odd food combinations like milk and salt, intake of excessive vitamin C, pesticide treated vegetables, consumption of stale fruits and vegetables can deplete digestive enzymes which eventually cause skin lesions.
Ayurveda provides most authentic, effective and promising treatment for the disease without any side effects, it doesn’t even stops white spots from spreading to the other body parts but also enhances the mechanism of pigmentation to recover from the discoloration of the skin.
The carbon dioxide (CO2) laser is the gold standard in ablative lasers. Detailed knowledge of the machines is essential. Over the past decade, advances in laser technology have allowed dermatologists to improve the appearance of scars and wrinkles and to remove benign skin growths using both ablative and nonablative lasers.
The techniques of skin treatments to make you look beautiful and younger have developed significantly over the past few decades and the newer methods are very successful. One of these method is laser resurfacing.
What is laser resurfacing?
Laser resurfacing is the technique of eliminating dead skin cells and tissue from the top layer of your skin and thus exposing a newer and younger layer of skin. Other techniques and methods that could be used to achieve the same are far more invasive procedures, such as face lifts or plastic surgery. Laser resurfacing has known benefits compared to other methods. Let's have a look at some of them.
Benefits of Laser resurfacing:
While this procedure also takes some healing time, once the healing period is over, you will be very pleased to see the results. However, do your research and choose the best doctors and practitioners in your area as the quality of people administering the procedure also matters a lot. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Dermatologist.
Most of us especially females who are keen for laser hair services are confused on this aspect of lasers. The big question in their mind is that the money I m spending on laser hair services is worth it or not. Most of the centers who dont have much knowledge about working principle of lasers would say or commit that one would be totally hair less on the area which laser hair machine procedure is done. Some people may also note that laser hair services are mostly done by technicians who have little or no knowledge about the machine they are handling and infact they are also not taught about basics of laser hair machine.
If a lower than optimal dose is given by this machine it may cause paradoxical hair stimulation in that area or area around the procedure. So a proper dose and tolerance equilibrium has to be done by the opeartor. Females with harmonal imbalance may respond different from females who have normal hormonal profile and hence the results would vary from patient to patient. A non usfda machine is as dangerous as any ekectrical equipment without isi control mark. The lasers ideally should be infact compulsory should be usfda approved to judge its quality and performance. The laser machine should have fluence suited for indian skin and laser should be having a chiller tip for best results
Non hormonal dependent areas like legs or arms may respond better than face area which has maximum control because of hormonal profiles. Pregnancy, stress, medication, thyroid or anaemia has a definitive control over hair cycle and hair growth
Dark black coarse and thick hair respond better than thin and blonde hair
Pigmented area with light fine hair may show less response
Areas with white hair may not respond at all. So its better to get hair reduction before you have white hair to have maximum advantage
Lasers like diode laser respond best to asian and indian skin as they have wavelength best suited for indian skin
Today, Laser treatment is no longer as rare as it once was. Laser treatment is in fact the third most common type of cosmetic surgery performed. However, it is still surrounded by a number of misconceptions. One such doubt that many people have is whether Lasers have the ability to cause cancer. To understand this, one must first understand what laser therapy is.
Laser is a short form for Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation. There are many different kinds of lasers and laser mediums. These lasers can be used by doctors for cosmetic and surgical procedures as well as by engineers at constructions sites etc depending on the type of Laser. Though simple lasers are easily available, they should be used carefully.
With some lasers, radiation is emitted as a form of light. In others, this radiation may be in the form of ultraviolet or infrared rays and thus be invisible to the naked eye. This radiation should not be confused with the radiation from radioactive substances or microwave and radio waves. The radiation emitted by lasers is largely considered to be safe and does not harm the human body.
This radiation emitted by lasers does not use the same ultraviolet wavelengths as the UV radiation of sunlight. Radiation from laser beams is known as non-ionising radiation. It stays at the surface of the skin and does not penetrate into the cells. When laser treatment is used for hair removal it only penetrates to the hair follicle and no further. Thus, it does not cause skin cancer and does not damage our cellular DNA. Keeping this in mind, laser treatment can also be used for hair removal around the reproductive area without a worry.
Lasers used for cosmetic procedures are known to be every effective in the treatment of wrinkles and fine lines. It can also be sued to reverse the damage caused by excessive exposure to sunlight such as sun spots and dark patches on the skin. For these types of treatment, lasers may either be used to vaporize the top most skin layer or resurface the skin and remove wrinkles without peeling the skin. Both these types of lasers, promote the formation of collagen which is what actually helps reduce wrinkles and fine lines. Lasers are also often used to treat and remove pre-cancerous lesions. Thus, instead they can reduce a person’s risk of developing skin cancer. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Dermatologist.
It is a condition that causes discoloration and discolored patches to appear on the skin. The color of one’s skin is determined by the production of melanin in the body, and hyperpigmentation is caused by a disproportionate production of melanin. People of any race or skin color can be affected by this condition. The most common pigmentation problems are brown sun spots, melasma, age spots, and pigmented birthmarks. Pigmentation issues very depending on the natural colour of the skin. Treatments include fade creams, IPL, Elos Aurora, laser treatments like Fraxel Dual and in some cases biopsy or skin excision is required to exclude skin cancer such as melanoma.
Three skin irregularities caused by this condition are; Post Inflammatory hyperpigmentation, Lentigines (or sun spots) and Melasma.
How is one affected by post inflammatory pigmentation?
If there is an excessive production of melanin in the body, it could then overflow to the surface of the skin; this is caused by an inflammation. Post inflammatory pigmentation is the formation of brown patches on the skin that are the result of infection, injury or other conditions. Patients who already have a skin problem are more likely to be affected by this condition.
Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) occurs after injury to the skin from whatever cause and is far more prevalent in darker skin. PIH appears as a dark brown area over the area of the previous injury and is due to excess melanin being produced by melanocytes as a result of the inflammation. Typically PIH resolves over several months but can persist for 1-2 years and in some cases can be everlasting. Treatment is generally patience as it will resolve and treatments risk further inflammation and therefore further PIH. However hydroquinone can be useful in some patients and others benefit from mild treatments of Elos Aurora, IPL or Fraxel Dual laser.
Treatment of freckles
Freckles are small flat brown marks on sun exposed areas. The medical term is ‘ephilide’ and they are an accumulation of melanin in the surface skin cells (keratinocytes). The tendency to form freckles is inherited and is often seen in red heads and younger people. Freckles usually fade in winter and reappear in summer. They need no treatment except sun protection. They can also be faded by Elos IPL, but will reappear with sun exposure. No treatment can transform a skin which freckles, into one which tans evenly. Of course, further sun exposure can bring the freckles out again so it is very important to apply a good sunscreen following treatment to maximise results.
How does laser treatment help to remedy hyperpigmentation?
Though these treatments are effective, one must always stay protected from damage due to overexposure to the sun, by wearing the sunscreen with the correct SPF and other sun gear. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!
Laser hair reduction -what as a patient you should be knowing
Laser hair reduction is a good and proven technology for long term hair free period. Results may vary from machine to machine and opeartor to operator. It is important to ascertain the right fluence and how robust is the machine, for that the machine should have a good wattage and should be able to give the desired dose when the panel is callibrated. Each patient and each area may need different fluence depending upon the biological configuration. Most of the centers have machines and machines operated by technicians who mostly learn by trial and error without knowing the physics behind lasers and hence the proper fluence may not be delivered at a particular site. Lasers and laser hair reduction needs proper knowledge and experience for best possible results. Results with machine which are suboptimal may only retard the hair and may only cause temprory hair reduction. On the contrary may cause hypertrichrosis ie increased hair growth. Patients should opt for usfda approvec machine which has inbuilt chill tip and for full body, painfree hair reduction can be done with a vacuum assisted latest technology.
