The main symptom you will notice is pain. It can happen:

  • In front, behind, or around your kneecap
  • When you bend your knee, such as when you walk, squat, kneel, run, or even get up from a chair
  • When you walk downstairs or downhill

You might also notice swelling around your knee or a popping or grinding feeling inside the joint.

For the vast majority, runner's knee shows signs of improvement with time. However, certain treatments or remedies for pain elevation are as follows:

  1. Rest your knee. Try to avoid exercises that aggravate the pain, for example, running, lunging, squatting, or sitting or standing for long periods of time.
  2. Ice your knee to relieve the pain and swelling. Do it for 20 to 30 minutes each three to four hours for three days, or until the pain is gone.

  4. Keep your leg raised on a cushion when you are sitting or resting.
  5. Take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen or naproxen. These medications help in getting rid of the irritation and help in reducing the pain and swelling. However, they can have reactions such as a risk of bleeding and ulcers.
  6. Do stretching exercises, especially for your quadriceps muscles. Your specialist can prescribe a physiotherapist to show you what to do.
  7. Try arch or knee supports for your shoes. They may help with the position of your feet. You can get them at the store or get them custom-made.

4. लिगामेंट का टूटना (torn ligament) – लिगामेंट एक रेशेदार और लचीला ऊतक होता है, जो दो हड्डियों को आपस में जोड़ने में मदद करता है. घुटने में स्थित चार लिगामेंट में से एक का भी टूटना घुटने के दर्द का कारण बन सकता है. क्षतिग्रस्त लिगामेंट में ज्यादातर एंटेरियर क्रूसिएट लिगामेंट (ACL) के मामले पाए जाते हैं.
5. ऑस्टियोआर्थराइटिस (osteoarthritis) – इसमें जोड़ों के बिगड़ने और उनकी बद्तर स्थिति होने के कारण दर्द, सूजन और अन्य समस्याएं होने लगती हैं.
6. टेंडिनाइटिस (tendinitis) – इसमें घुटने के अगले हिस्सें में दर्द होता है, जो सीढ़ियां चढ़नें और चलते समय और अधिक बद्तर हो जाता है.
7. बर्साइटिस (bursitis) – यह घुटने का बार-बार सामान्य से अधिक इस्तेमाल करना, या चोट आदि लगने से होता है.
8. गाउट (gout) – यह गठिया का एक रूप होता है, जो यूरिक एसिड बनने की वजह से होता है.
9. बेकर्स सिस्ट (Baker’s cyst) – इसमें घुटने के पीछे सिनोवियल द्रव (जोड़ों में चिकनाई लाने वाला द्रव) का निर्माण होने लगता है.
10. हड्डियों के ट्यूमर (bone tumors) – ऑस्टियोसार्कोमा कैंसर, दूसरा सबसे प्रचलित हड्डियों का कैंसर होता है, यह सबसे ज्यादा घुटनों में ही होता है.

इसके अतिरिक्त कुछ अन्य कारक भी हैं जो घुटनों के क्रॉनिक दर्द को और बद्तर बना देते हैं, जिनमें शामिल हैं –
1. घुटने के स्ट्रक्चर पर चोट लगना, सूजन और ब्लीडिंग का कारण बन सकती है और अगर इसका सही समय पर इलाज ना किया जाए तो समय के साथ-साथ यह दीर्घकालिक दर्द जैसी समस्याएं भी पैदा कर सकती है.

8 Symptoms Of Dislocated Kneecap And Its Treatment!

Whether you are an athlete or a ballet dancer, you will appreciate the importance of having a stable kneecap. Medically known as the patella, the kneecap is a triangular bone that connects the upper thigh to the lower half of the leg. It sits in a groove in the bottom of the femur (thigh bone). When the leg is bent, it stays within the groove. When the leg is extended, it provides support to the quadriceps muscles.

That being the case, a dislocation of the kneecap is a very common injury. Subluxation is a state where there is partial movement of the kneecap out of its position, thereby making the patient’s kneecap unstable. When it completely moves out of its place, it is known as dislocation. Whether you fall on your knees during a sport or have a fall from a bike or get injured during dance or aerobics, it is common to have a dislocated kneecap. Some people are prone to repeated dislocations.

Symptoms:

The initial injury is very painful and there might also be damage to the surrounding structures. Other symptoms include:

  1. Buckling of the knee, where your legs cannot support your body weight

  2. Sliding of the kneecap to a side

  3. Catching of the knee in the groove when trying to move it

  4. Pain in the front of the kneecap with any activity

  5. Painful while sitting

  6. Swelling and/or stiffness of the knee joint

  7. Crackling/creaking sound when trying to move the knee joint

  8. Inability to straighten the leg

Treatment:

Though these sound scary, the good news is that in 90% of the cases, the knee returns to its position spontaneously. However, putting it back into its place is a simple and safe procedure and can be done by almost any seasoned medical practitioner. The first step is to confirm that the kneecap is indeed dislocated. This can be done by a combination of physical exercise and x-ray. If required, MRI can be used, but it is not required in most cases. Initial treatment would include the following steps in sequence:

  1. Immobilizing the knee with splint by keeping the leg in a straightened position.

  2. Calling for medical assistance immediately. They can replace the knee back in its position carefully (reduction). An injured kneecap can cause what is known as foot drop by putting pressure on the peroneal nerve. The toes drag on the ground, making it difficult for you to walk.

  3. Use ice in the affected area for 15 to 20 minutes, and repeat after three to four hours throughout the day to reduce pain and swelling.
