Irritable Bowel Syndrome Health Feed

I am 50 years old woman with 74 kg weight and 5 feet height, having hypothyroidism, hypertension and diabetes. Taking arkamin once a day for hypertension, eltroxin 137 mcg once a day for thyroid replacement and metformin 1 g after breakfast and dinner plus dynaglipt 20 mg with 500 mg metformin before lunch for diabetes. My last hba1c was 6.7 but I am not feeling good most days and have very less energy. My body pains most of the time and since last few days, I am getting headache too sometimes. I get tired very easily with just two hours of house work and though I sleep lately, get up early at 5 or 6 am. Have an irritable bowel syndrome too it seems since I have to go to potty every time I eat or drink water. I.e.i have to go to toilet 5-7 times a day. My vitamins level are ok and iron is also ok when checked last time in may. What is the treatment for ibs and what might be the reason for body pain and getting tired with least amount of work. Energy levels are very low and I can't see and watch videos or films also since I can't be attentive enough to listen with focus due to lack of energy. My hands also pain so much that I don't feel like doing anything. Kindly give me the treatment plan which I am able to follow. Thanks.

1.no alcohol 2. Reduce body wt 3. No smoking/ tobacco 4. Diet - no ghee/ butter, have mix of vegetable oils - mustard, til, ground nut, olive oil, have more green vegetables and fruits, have whole grain atta, no fried. Fast. Spicy / processed/ junk food. Less sugar, potato, rice 5. 30 mts brisk walk daily 6. Deep breathing exercise for 10 mts daily 7. Meditation daily for 10 mts. 6-8 hrs of sleep at night 8. Expose your body to sun for 15-20 mts daily after some oil massage to get vit d. 9. Take more water. U have to improve your food habits do 1. Take 2/ 3glass of warm water in the morning before brush 2. Take more water in day 3. Take meals at fixed hrs, chew food properly/ completely, no eating quickly 4. Take small amount of food at a time, take more frequent meals - may be five times a day. 5. No spicy/ fried/ fast/ junk/processed food. Caffeine, mints or mint-flavoured foods, pungent, sour things, tomato-based foods. 6. No smoking, chewing gum, and carbonated beverages. 6. No milk for few days, can take curd, no uncooked salad 7. Avoid constipation 8. Use nibupani (lemon water) 2/ 3 times a day 9. Do not drink/ store water in plastic bottles. 10 .relax and walk for 30 mts daily 11. Take enough rest- do not lie down immediately after eating. Take dinner 3 hrs before sleeping. No late nights 11. Keep your weight under control. 13. Avoid tea, coffee, alcohol 15. Reduce physical and mental stress. Maintain healthy life style. Do exercise regularly. 16. Hi, I have indigestion and stress problem my doctor said I have IBS he suggested me pantakind flux daily in the morning, gifaxin 400 in morning and knight, gut ok at knight, ava at night, and etizola 0.25. When I take gifaxin 400 my food does not digest feeling heavy on chest. Please tell me is it gifaxin side effect?

Gifaxin tablet side effects vomiting headache dizziness nausea. Follow this 1. Don't take tea empty stomach. Eat something like a banana (if you are not diabetic) or any seasonal fruit or soaked almonds and a glass of water first thing in the morning (within 10 mins of waking up). No only biscuits or rusk will not do. 2. Don't overeat 3. Take your breakfast every day. Don't skip it. U should eat whatever your mother or grandparent eat in bfast. I mean to say whatever is your traditional food. If punjabi eat paratha, if belongs to south then take idli/ dosa etc. 4. Have light meals every 2 hours (in addition to your breakfast, lunch n dinner) e.g. Nariyal paani, chaach, a handful of dry fruits, a handful of peanuts, any fresh n seasonal fruit (eat whole fruit not juice), a cup of curd/milk etc 5. The bowel is a very important part of your body within the digestive system as it plays a vital role in the absorption of nutrients and minerals within your body as well as excreting toxic matter. The bowel contains the small bowel or small intestine as well as the large bowel or the large intestine. However, parts of the bowel may be infected or damaged in such a manner that they may need to be removed in order to save further worsening. Thus, the removal of sections of the bowels is known as bowel resection surgery.

How is bowel resection surgery performed?

In this procedure, sections of either the large intestine or the small intestine are removed which have either become diseased, infected or have malignant growths within them. The doctors and surgeons first identify the sections that need to be removed and then perform the surgery wherein a section of the tissue is excised and then two ends of the bowel are stitched together to form a new section of continuous small intestine or large intestine.

Types of bowel resection
There are two types of bowel resection, namely small bowel resection performed on the small intestine and large bowel resection performed on the large intestine. The indications for both of them are mentioned below:
Small Bowel resection: Some of the cases wherein small bowel resection may be required are as follows:

  1. Cancerous or benign polyps or growth
  2. Precancerous growths and polyps
  3. Damage to the small intestine due to injuries
  4. Congenital defects in the small intestine
  5. Blockages in the intestine

Risks of the bowel resection
Like any other surgery, bowel resection also carries its own risks just as any other form of surgery. Some of the common risks of bowel resection are –

  1. Adverse reaction to anesthesia
  2. Infections
  3. Heart attacks or strokes during the operation
  4. Infections
  5. Excessive bleeding among others

Specific risks for large and small bowel resections are mentioned as follows:

  1. Small bowel resection: Certain common risks include accumulation of pus in the abdomen, internal bleeding within the intestine after surgery, diarrhea, infection of the incision area and the stitched area breaking open among others
  2. Large bowel resection: In this case, tissues protruding through the cut causing an incisional hernia is the most common element of risk. Nearby organs may be damaged as well; scar tissue, problems with the passage of material within the colon among others are some of the other complications.

However, these issues occur rarely and resections are performed very successfully and quite regularly by surgeons.

-  Colon cancer: If the pain lasts too long then getting a screening done is a good idea to rule out if one is suffering from colon cancer or not.

-  Upper gastrointestinal disorders: If one gets belching occasionally then it is alright but a constant belching might be a sign of gastrointestinal disorder in the upper tract. These could be gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastroparesis, or peptic ulcers.

Indian traditions are more like the first lessons which are taught by the elders of the house. These traditions are often followed without any doubts and questions. These traditions are not just followed for the sake of religious rituals but have deep-rooted scientific reasons associated with the same.

Some of the interpretations of these rituals are as follows:

1. Namaste: When we greet someone or meet someone for the first time we join both our hands in for Namaste. This is done out of sheer respect for the person. Doing Namaste activates the acupuncture points of the fingertips and helps us to remember the person.

4. Vamakukshi and Shatapawali: Vamakukshi is referred to as the afternoon nap post-lunch. Sleeping on the left side helps in the digestion of the food. Though prolonged sleep can make a person lazy, a quick 10 minutes nap is recommended as it allows a person to be fresh.

Shatapwali means taking 100 steps, to be more appropriate it is the walk after dinner. This helps in the digestion of food as the gas created after consuming food is moved and the pressure in the chest is reduced.

The above terms literally explain the famous praise, "After lunch sleep a while, after dinner walk a mile."

5. Ear Piercing: Though ear piercings are looked at as a fashion ornament but as per the Hindu traditions these help in decision making, thinking abilities and intellectual development and also to some extent an acupressure point. It is ideal to get a baby's ear pierced by the 12th day of her birth, as it is believed that getting ears pierced early leads to acquiring the quality of minimal speech.
