Hello. Ascitis is not the disease. Due to some problem in liver or kidney or heart or any other it occurs. So you need to get tests done. Also of ascitic fluid test. Then reports will suggest further treatment.

Pleurodesis is just a procedure to stick two pleural surface with each other so that there is no fresh formation of pleural fluid.
If he has massive effusion making him breathless there are two options:
1: put chest tube and do pleurodesis, this will make him relieve his symptoms of breathlessness.
It takes two to three for entire process in hospital.
2: go for in dewelling pleural catheter (IPC)
Not much complications for pleurodesis.

Always gargle your mouth after usage of pump or inhaler gargling removes the drug deposition on tongue and reduces risk of fungal infection.
Candida mouthpaint for a week and oral fluconazole once a week for 4 weeks can help treat fungal infection.
Instead of dry powder inhaler, metered dose inhaler which has the mist instead of powder as the drug is there. Which might reduce the drug deposition in tongue but we can't speculate whether it doesn't.
