Hymnoplasty - Know Procedures Of It!

Hymnoplasty is also known as hymen surgery. It is a surgical procedure where the hymen within the vagina is restored. The Hymen is a membrane covering the vaginal opening, which can be torn when a woman engages in coitus for the first time or it could be damaged due to other factors such as heavy lifting, exercise, cycling, swimming among many other activities. Hymnoplasty involves putting back the hymen’s torn edges to make it look like the hymen is intact.

Why do women want hymen reconstruction?
A woman would want a hymen reconstruction surgery for a number of reasons. They are:

  1. Religious reasons: In certain cultures, a woman’s hymen is inspected to make sure she has not engaged in coitus in the past. Virginity is valued highly is such places and if the woman is not a virgin, she may have to face social or even legal ramifications.
  2. In case of rape or sexual assault victims: In some cases, a rape victim may undergo this surgery to empower herself and feel mentally peaceful.
  3. Hymen related injuries: Certain factors like heavy exercise or sexual intercourse can cause rupture of the hymen which may cause bleeding, infections or other complications. A woman may want to rectify this with the help of this surgery.

The procedure
The entire surgical process lasts for about 45-60 minutes. The surgery is carried out in an outpatient setting under general anesthesia. The torn skin membranes are rejoined using dissolvable stiches so that scaring is minimal.

This procedure can be carried out in three ways
1. Joining the torn edges with stiches.
2. An artificial membrane is placed in the area whose function is to behave like an artificial hymen. This hymen however, does not have any blood supply, so a capsule that contains blood can be placed with it.
3. A flap is taken from the vaginal lining, which is used to create a functional hymen with proper blood supply.
4. You can return to your work in about 2-3 days after the surgery. However, the entire healing process takes around two months.

Risks
The procedure carries some risks that you should be aware of, they are –
1. Bleeding: Some bleeding is normal after the procedure, but any prolonged case of bleeding may indicate a complication.
2. InfectionLike all surgeries, you may have infections in the concerned area. The doctor may prescribe antibiotics to deal with these infections.
3. Narrowing of the vaginal opening: In some cases, the vaginal opening can become narrow after the procedure. This however, can be resolved without the need for any treatment as it may become wider on its own over time.

The Procedure & Benefits Of Hymenoplasty!

These days everything is available, including a new body. You can get a new nose, jaw, perky breasts and yes, a brand new hymen as well, all through minute surgery. The procedure of hymen restoration or reconstruction is called hymenoplasty, hymenorrhaphy, virginity surgery or just hymen reconstruction surgery. The hymen, as you know is a ring-like membrane in a woman’s vagina. It usually ruptures due to vigorous exercise or sexual penetration. This is also usually the reason many women, egged on by families, decide to go for the reconstruction of their hymen because certain cultures value female virginity and losing one’s virginity before marriage is a taboo.

Benefits
: The benefits of hymenoplasty, if any, are that it allows women to take control of their futures in conservative societies. If she has been sexually active pre-marriage, she can still decide to go for a traditional marriage without the fear of ostracization. Hymenoplasty surgery restores the ability of the hymen to bleed at intercourse on the wedding night. Victims of sexual assault can also use the procedure to get over the traumatic event and its memories. Some women like to get a hymen rejuvenation to feel young again.

Procedure: Hymenorrhaphy can be done months or years after a woman loses her virginity. It must be performed by a gynaecologist. In this procedure, the torn edges of the hymen are sutured back together. If done correctly, the touched-up hymen appears as good as new and bleeds on sexual penetration. Sutures dissolve by themselves after a few days. Hospital stay is only 5-6 hours post hymenorrhaphy. The procedure is done under anaesthesia and it usually takes less than an hour to finish. Patients are discharged from the hospital the same day and are advised not to do any vigorous activity like playing games, climbing stairs, and of course sex.

The risk involved: There are no documented risks of hymenoplasty and there are no complications either if the surgeon is good. If an adverse reaction occurs, it’s temporary. Usually, any discomfort in the private parts and swelling in the outer parts of the vagina usually subsides within days.

Recovery: The recovery time is minimal and the patient can return to work the next day if she wants. Complete healing, though, takes approximately 4 weeks. Good hygiene is important to avoid infection. Patients are advised to contact their doctor immediately after a hymenorrhaphy if there is fever, abdominal pain, bleeding from the vagina or the reconstructed hymen.

Hymenoplasty - Can It Really Help You In Regaining Virginity?

Hymenoplasty, a medical term for hymen repair surgery, is a procedure of reconstructing the thin skin membrane made of elastic and fibrous tissue known as the hymen. Colloquially termed as revirgination, the purpose of hymenoplasty is to reconstruct the hymen, which often gets torn during first intercourse, may also happen after injury or extensive exercise without intercourse(e.g. Cycling, gymnastics)

How is hymenoplasty performed?

In this surgery, the edges of the torn hymen are stitched together in layers. The tissues involved gradually grow back and take the appearance of a natural hymen. In some cases, the vaginal walls are also tightened for achieving a virgin-like form. The process typically takes around 30-40minutes and the area is coated with antibiotic ointment so that it heals within a short span of time. At times, there are no hymenal remnants, or the available parts cannot be used. In such a situation, the procedure can be done with help of vaginal mucosal tissue.

What are the benefits of hymenoplasty?

This aesthetic surgery brings a host of benefits which may include making the first night of courtship special by regaining that symbol of virginity. In some cultures as well as religious communities, a high value is imposed on virginity before marriage. They consider hymen to be a proof of sexual status, rupture of the same can bring about a social disaster. In such situations, hymenoplasty can come to the rescue.

Who is a good candidate for hymenoplasty?

Women who are healthy enough and have realistic expectations about the surgery are the best candidates for hymenoplasty. Those who have hymenal remnants are more likely to have natural hymen post surgery.

How long does it take it recover from hymenoplasty?

In most cases, patients can return to their usual routines the day following the surgery. But it is crucial to avoid strenuous work or exercise. If you have undergone dissolvable suture, then there is no need to remove it. Regardless of the type of stitch, it is mandatory to attend to the follow-up visit to ensure a safe and effective healing of the hymen. One must wait at least 3 to 4 weeks before indulging in sexual intercou
