How Yogasanas And Ayurvedic Treatment Can Help In Diabetes?

In Ayurveda, there is a wide description of diabetes i.e madhumeh or prameh. It is also described as a disease of rich people, in the sense that people who don't have much of physical work are more prone to have prameh. Some treatment's described are to control prameh one should dig wells or take the cow for eating grass; in the sense that by doing physical work sweat should come.

In today's modern findings obese people are more prone to have diabetes. The second thing to contribute for prameh is stress. In today's era, due to fast life all ages of people from teenagers to old people are getting prameh. Genetics is also important factor. Children of diabetic parents are more likely to get diabetic. No timely eating, no timely sleep, stress, no hard work, genetics, pollution, increased chemical fertilizers in farming, are some reasons to increase diabetic patient's.

In Ayurveda and Yoga their has been extensive solutions given for diabetic control. The pranayam's mostly Kapalbhati, Anulom Vilom, deep breathing are very helpful. Due to pranayam, asanas the stress level decreases, blood supply of organs is increased, endocrine system is regularised.

In Ayurveda along with herbs panchkarma (body detoxification) is also described for diabetes. Many Ayurvedic herbs such as amalki, haridra, gudmar, guduchi, kirattikt, nimb, korphad, jabul bheej, etc. are described. Various combination of herbs are used in form of decotion, tablets, syrup, powders are found to be helpful. 

One should take help of doctors to take medicines. Eating sweet s should be avoided in diabetes. Kashay, katu rasatmk food should be taken. Due to panchkarma the toxin like material (ama,) is thrown out of body so body is relaxed.

So in diabetes one should follow diet rules, do pranayam, aasan, exercise, walk, panchkarma. Take medicine promptly to avoid the ill effects on body (gangrene,eye vision problems) caused due to uncontroll sugar level.

A few yoga exercises every diabetic should try to include in his or her exercise routine are:

  1. Pranayama: This breathing exercise helps oxygenate blood and improves circulation. It also helps fight stress and calms the mind.
  2. Balasana: This asana is also popularly known as the child’s pose. It helps stretch and strengthens muscles in the hips, thighs and ankles and is a good remedy for back aches that result from prolonged periods of sitting in the same position. It also helps fight stress and reduces tiredness and fatigue.
  3. Vajrasana: According to Ayurveda, 12 inches above the anus is a spot known as the kanda. The kanda is a point which sees over 72000 nerve converging. This yoga asana massages the kanda and relaxes the mind. It also helps improve the digestion process and thus ensures that food moves smoothly through the system.
  4. Sarvangsana: This yoga asana is renowned for its ability to regulate the functioning of the thyroid glands. These glands are responsible for the proper functioning of the digestive, nervous and reproductive system and for regulating metabolism. When metabolism is regulated, energy does not stay stored excessively in the form of fat and hence blood sugar levels also get stabilised.
