You have to quit cold turkey because the body and mind will torture you endlessly while attempting a reduction in smoking. The tobacco tar in cigarette smoke lines your lung with huge patches that make that portion dysfunctional. Your oxygen carrying capacity is jeopardized, and breathing is impinged on. Dear lybrate user. I can understand. Cigarette smoking is dangerous because it contains 4000 plus chemicals which can cause many physical diseases including cancer. Over and above nicotine is highly addictive. Quitting is not so easy. The first step is always a desire to quit. Please try to use your will power because in most of the cases, will power alone can produce splendid results. Otherwise you can go for deaddiction therapy which is usually provided by a psychologist. Take care.

Yes, it can if you have a strong will.
Distract yourself. Turn on the tv, take a shower, or call a friend. The activity doesn’t matter as long as it gets your mind off smoking.
Remind yourself why you quit. Focus on your reasons for quitting, including the health benefits (lowering your risk for heart disease and lung cancer, for example), improved appearance, money you’re saving, and enhanced self-esteem.
