Home Remedies For Mosquitoes: Procedure, Risk & Complication

What is the remedy about?

Many of you would have suffered from the itching caused by the bite of the omnipresent mosquito. When a mosquito bites us, it sucks our blood and leaves the saliva beneath our skin. This saliva is the reason behind that itching, redness, and swellings. This annoying sensation of itching and rubbing continuously never seem to end, and for this, many basic ingredients can act remedial for this situation. Some of them are mentioned here for reference. Apply a small amount of vinegar directly over the bump, and the best would be to using an apple cider vinegar solution. Aloe Vera helps to ease the itching and swelling and helps in healing the wound because of compounds present in the fresh soothing gel. You can also apply a dry bar of soap directly over the infected area and wash it off after some time. Or make a thick paste of baking soda by adding a little water and apply it generously. The swelling and itching will subside shortly afterward. Another simple remedy is to cut a fresh slice of onion and place it over the affected area until itching subsides. Wash afterward. For quick relief, you can apply a small amount of white toothpaste and leave it for as long as you desire. Raw Honey has anti-microbial properties that can help prevent infections as does lemons which can be rubbed a little over the bitten area. Apart from these, salt and water paste, rubbing garlic cloves or applying warm olive oil can be of help. As can be seen, there are numerous simple remedies using the readily available substances at home for a mosquito bite. Try and find the one that suits you best and follow it everytime you need.

Are there any side effects?

Well, the answer would be ‘No.' The above said remedies with all the ingredients mentioned are extremely safe as they are chosen right from the basics that a home already has. However, it is to be mentioned if you have a problem with one or the other product mentioned above, or you are allergic to them, then stop using it. Never go with the possibility of solving mosquito bite itching with a product that your body already hates. It may lead to more complications or severe irritations also. If one remedy does not suit you, go with another alternative solution. The home remedies are more or less of the same efficiency. Many times it may look that a particular solution has lead to more itching than before than you should prohibit its use and contact a dermatologist around you. Otherwise, mosquito bites are harmless (not taking in account of diseases caused or carried by mosquitoes). Just be a little more conscious while using vinegar and baking soda, as these readily available ingredients may react with your skin to produce adverse results if your skin is sensitive to those. If observed any of such circumstances, you should wash off completely. So it is required that you ought to be familiar with products used and know if they are safe for your particular skin type.

What are the post-remedy guidelines?

There are almost always some guidelines to follow after every treatment, but for home remedies, there aren’t. You should stick to steps of the remedies and never experiment on your own by mixing any other ingredient into it. Also, you should never try applying all the remedies at once as this can cause severe irritation and reaction. You should keep a keen observation of the gradual relief you get or the adverse effect of the home remedy and act according to it. Just wait for the results and if you do not know what to do just contact a dermatologist nearby you. In the case of mosquito bites, it's important not to scratch to get relief from itching and just to stick to the remedy. Unless the bite results in any infectious disease, following the home remedies will suffice to reduce the itching and discomfort and would not require futher attention.

How long does it take to recover?

The result of any treatment depends on various factors such as severity of the problem, the steps that were taken and if the procedure is right, among others. Whether the procedure is followed in the right manner also matters. But in the case of a regular mosquito bite, the home remedies are quite effective and can provide immediate relieve. In case the scratching has resulted in any scars, good post remedy care will return the skin to the normal state in no time. Only if there is an infection and would require medical attention the recovery period will be different as per the disease.

Are the results of the remedy permanent?

With patience and care, permanent relief through home remedies is possible. These treatments can ease the redness, swellings and other signs that can be a result of a mosquito bite. This can also prevent futher infection in the exposed skin. Hence, the home remedies can be highly effective in not just treating the mosquito bite but can provide long lasting results by preventing infections. With proper care post-remedy, permanent results can be achieved without fail. But of course there is no guarantee that you will not encounter another mosquito bite as this is quite a common problem, so identify the remedy that suits you to be used anytime you need.

Is there any training or experts required?

The above said home remedies are of the simplest and easiest to adhere to and does not require training or supervision of experts. You can try them at home whenever you need with no external aid. Just be careful with the ingredients used and make sure you have no harm using them. If you do not get the desired results, don’t get dejected but proceed to pursue another alternative home remedy. Also if your problems are severe one then make sure you seek medical attention, while trying the home remedies as a form of first aid.
