What is the remedy about?

Needless to say many people have a desire to have flawless glowing skin. However, due to pollution and junk food consumption, skin loses its sheen and radiance easily. To recoup the lost glamour, certain home remedies can be used. Some effective home remedies are -

    1. Turmeric: Turmeric has anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory chemicals that remove harmful skin damaging substances from your skin and also increases collagen production to keep your skin glowing. Direction: Prepare a paste of turmeric and gram flour with sufficient milk or water. Apply the paste on neck and face and clean it after 20-30 minutes. Do this 2 times a week until you get desired results. 2. Warm coconut oil: Coconut oil is rich in anti-oxidants that help improving skin tone. Also it traps moisture and nourishes your skin with fatty acids. Direction: Massage luke warm coconut oil in circular motion on your face for 10-15 minutes and leave it overnight. Do this regularly before going to bed to have a heathy and glowing skin. 3. Honey: Honey is anti-bacterial and also contains antioxidants. this makes it extremely beneficial for your skin. It helps in removing acne and treating dull skin.Direction: Apply one tea spoon of honey on your face and massage for 10-15 minutes and leave it on for another 10 minutes. Wash your face with clean water and experience the soft, glowing skin. 4. Sugar: Sugar is an efficient skin softener and exfoliator. It can be conveniently used anytime to get better skin. Direction: Make a mixture of equal quantities of sugar and curd or fresh cream. Apply this paste gently on your face and surrounding neck areas and leave for 10 minutes before rinsing it off. 5. Aloe Vera gel: Aloe Vera contains proteolytic enzymes than exfoliates and conditions your skin and repairs dead skin cells. Direction: Make a paste of 1 table spoon of aloe Vera gel, 1 pinch of turmeric, 1 teaspoon of honey and milk. Mix these well and apply on your face and leave it for 20 minutes before cleaning your face with luke warm water.

Are there any side effects?

The suggested ingredients generally don’t show any side effects but if you’re allergic to something mentioned in the list, you may feel itchiness and irritation on your skin with minute rashes and redness. If you feel uncomfortable on applying any of the ingredients on your face, then immediately stop using the remedy and wash your face with cold running water.

What are the post-remedy guidelines?

If you want to maintain soft glowing skin, then continue using the remedies as per the given instructions. But you can eventually reduce the frequency of these remedies. Try to avoid consuming junk food regularly as it makes your face oily and dull. Carry an umbrella and use sunscreen lotion to prevent your skin from getting exposed to the harmful UV rays of the sun.

How long does it take to recover?

Dark circles are also known as peri orbital dark circles. Dark circles are dark blemishes which appear around the eye. Dark circles can appear at any age although older people are more likely to develop it. They may appear due to anemia, fatigue, medications, allergies, ageing or due to genetic problems. Dark circles may be treated either naturally with various home remedies or through artificial treatment. 

The nine remedies stated below are some of the ways to cope up with the problem of dark circles.

  1. Massage a few drops of almond oil mixed with a few drops of Vitamin E oil to the affected area and leave it overnight. Wash it off in the morning with cold water. Follow this routine for one or two weeks to witness the difference.
  2. Cucumber has skin- lightening properties along with mild astringent properties which help to reduce dark circles. Cut two round slices of cucumber and leave it on top of your closed eyelids for ten to fifteen minutes. Repeat this as often as possible.
  3. Tomato has bleaching properties and reduces dark circles. Mix one tablespoon of tomato juice with half tablespoon lime juice, apply to the affected area and leave it on for ten to fifteen minutes.
  4. You may also use refrigerated green tea bags and leave them on your eyelids for about fifteen minutes. It not only reduces dark circles but also rejuvenates the skin.
  5. Cold milk is also an effective agent for removing dark circles. Soak a cotton ball in a cup of cold milk, place it on the affected area for fifteen minutes and wash off with water.
  6. Rose water is also considered to be very useful in removing dark circles. Soak cotton balls in rose water and leave it on top of your eyelids for ten to fifteen minutes.
  7. Chemical peelings performed by dermatologists also help in removing dark circles. It exfoliates the damaged layer and leaves the skin rejuvenated.
  8. Intense Pulsed Light Treatment and laser treatment are also very effective in removing dark circles. Intense pulsed light treatment destroys pigment cells responsible for discoloration. It is a process where high energy light waves are used to reduce dark circles. 
  9. Creams with alpha hydroxyl acids (AHAs) are also proved to be beneficial in removing dark circles.

You need peels and laser toning to remove them Shubham. Creams are not very effective in these areas as the skin is thick.

I was fair in complexion but due to sales job I have to spend lots of time under sun as a result my skin is becoming dark can you please suggest me any natural way decrease my melanin production and get back my fair complexion.

Please use sunscreen daily. Have lots of fruits especially red grapes along with seeds. Use more pepper and turmeric in cooking, they are know skin lightening agesnts.

Looking over your shoulder while driving is a healthy habit. But looking over your shoulder to check for dandruff could be quite embarrassing, especially for women.

Dandruff is a common scalp condition that is usually chronic but not contagious (unless caused by infection). Formation of dry, white flakes of dead skin on hair and scalp is dandruff. It may also be accompanied by itching and burning sensation.

Those with oily skin are more prone to this problem because it is often a mild form of seborrheic dermatitis.

Dandruff is caused by:

- cold, dry weather

- overgrowth of yeast-like fungus (malassezia)

Try these home remedies to get rid of dandruff:

Home remedy 1
- take a handful of neem leaves.
- boil them in 4 cups of water.
- cool and strain this solution.
- rinse your hair with this decoction 2-3 times a week.

Home remedy 2
- take some coconut oil.
- add half the amount of lemon juice in it.
- mix them thoroughly.
- apply this mixture to the roots of your hair and massage for a few minutes.
- leave on for about 20 minutes before rinsing it off.

Home remedy 3
- take 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar.
- add an equal amount of water.
- add 15-20 drops of tea tree oil.
- mix the ingredients well.
- massage your scalp with the mixture.
- rinse after a few minutes.
- follow this remedy 2-3 times a week.

Now you can confidently say" look, no dandruff anymore"

Hello, I am Shruti Kohli. I am a consultant Dermatologist in cosmetologist in Sarvodaya Hospital, Sec-8, Faridabad. Also, I have a clinic in Sec- 15, Faridabad by the name of Crimson Clinic. I have been practising from last 12 years.

Today, I am going to talk about the "summer skin care tips".

Summers brings a lot of skin problems, such as Fungal infections, sunburn, excessive sweating and rashes. Here are few tips for the smooth sailing summer,

Use sunscreen before stepping out in the sun, that is the most important preventive step anyone can take in the summer season. The sun screen should be minimum SPF of 15 and should protect against both UVA and UVB.
Apply the sunscreen 15 minutes prior to go to the sun. And it can be applied after every 3-4 hours.
The sun also has a bad effect on the lips. In order to protect them, you can moisturize them by applying lip balm with SPF of 15, as and when required.
For the face cleaning, I would recommend a gentle exfoliating face wash containing glycolic acid, which will help to remove a dead skin as well as the harmful effect of sweat and pollutants from your skin.
After cleansing of the skin, it is important to use light water base moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated.
Avoid heavy creams and oils as the skin breakouts.
If you are exposed to the sun for long period, then aloe vera gel is recommended, as it is a soothing and cooling agent. also it has antioxidant properties. It can also prevent damaging of the skin of free radicles.
Aloe vera can also be used a cooling mask occasionally.
I would recommend washing off yourself twice daily with cold water, in order to remove the pollutants.
Also, use a white broad hat to protect your skin, especially the skin of your face. Or you can use an umbrella while being exposed to the sun.
Eat plenty of watermelon and muskmelon daily.
There are certain foods which give inherent protection against the sun. These include tomatoes, berries, citrus fruits, nuts which contain Vitamin C.
And the last is, hydrate yourself regularly. drink atleast 12-15 glass of water daily for a glowing, youthful and healthy skin. Coconut water also works well and is recommended in your daily routine.
