Dandruff: Symptoms, Causes, Prevention and Treatment

Dandruff is a chronic disorder, which significantly affects the scalp region and is characterized by the appearance of minute white flakes on the scalp. Although dandruff does not cause serious problems, recurrent appearances of dandruff can be embarrassing for the concerned person.

Symptoms

If you spot numerous white flakes repeatedly on the shoulders or on the shoulder region of your shirt and experience severe itching around the scalp, particularly during weather changes, it is likely that you are suffering from dandruff.

Causes

Dandruff might develop due to a lack of proper hair care, side-effects of certain shampoos or hair care products, seborrheic dermatitis (characterized by scaly red coloured patches on one’s scalp), dry or oily skin, eczema, excessive stress, hormonal changes, side effects of serious diseases such as HIV or Parkinson’s disease (a disease of the nervous system that impairs human body mobility) and also cold weather conditions.

Prevention and treatment

You can control dandruff by applying any of the following treatments:

  1. Therapy involving peeling and subsequent strengthening of the scalp might help in the complete elimination of dandruff. The therapy is developed with the help of highly operative anti-fungal ingredients which sanitize the scalp and regulate the growth of the fungi ‘Malassezia’ to a normal level. This helps in the elimination of the intense itchy sensations and the minute white flakes around the region of the scalp. The therapy also aims to provide adequate nourishment to the hair. This therapy helps in the flattening of the dandruff affected hair strands along with the subsequent reinforcement and protection of the hair follicles. If the dandruff is caused due to an oily scalp, this therapy might be useful in the regulation of the unnecessary and excess oil level.
  2. In order to treat dandruff, a therapy aimed at the purification and balancing of the scalp might be helpful. This treatment incorporates a mixture of natural oils which help in the subsequent nourishment of the scalp; the therapy helps your hair to regain its lost vigor.

Further recommendation

Along with the aforementioned therapies, you can also use certain products which might help as well:

1. Anti-dandruff lotions contain a healthy amount of effective ingredients which aim at the removal of the itchy sensation on the scalp along with the subsequent elimination of dandruff.

2. You can also use anti-dandruff shampoos on a regular basis which help to remove dandruff and strengthen the scalp. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

4 Ways to use Tea Tree Oil for Better Hair Health

Hair is every person's crowning glory. Some people are born with luscious locks while others have to work hard at maintaining them. Though hair is typically considered to be dead cells, there are many things that could go wrong. Exposure to pollutants and stress are leading causes for hair fall and premature graying. Dandruff and lice are another common problem. Tea tree oil can be very effective when it comes to treating these problems and can even help boost hair growth.

Here are a few ways you can use tea tree oil.

  1. To clean your hair: Tea tree oil has natural antibacterial, antiseptic and antifungal properties. To benefit from this, add a few drops of tea tree oil to your shampoo; you can use this to shampoo your hair as you would normally do. This will also help prevent dandruff.
  2. To boost hair growth: This oil helps nourish hair follicles and unclogs pores on the scalp. However, tea tree oil is very strong and should never be used in its pure form. Mix a few drops of the oil with any carrier oil such as coconut oil, almond oil and olive oil and massage well into the scalp. Leave on for a few hours and then wash it off with shampoo. You could also warm the carrier oil a little before using it.
  3. To treat a dry scalp: Tea tree oil moisturizes the scalp and prevents it from drying out. It can also be used to relieve itching. Mix 1-2 drops of tea tree oil with half a cup of jojoba oil and massage into the scalp for 10-15 minutes. After a few hours, shampoo your hair normally. Oiling your hair regularly with this mixture will keep your scalp soft and moisturized. You can also mix a few drops of tea tree oil with your conditioner to relieve itching.
  4. Hair mask: Using a hair mask once a week is a good way to add luster to your locks. To make your own hair mask mix a cup of plain yogurt with 10 drops of argan oil, 2 tablespoons of honey and a few drops of tea tree oil. Apply this mixture directly on your scalp and massage in gentle. Leave for ten minutes and rinse out thoroughly. Alternatively you could add a few drops of tea tree oil to any store bought hair mask as well.

A word of caution; some people can be allergic to tea tree oil. Hence it is a good idea to do a patch test on your elbow before using it on your scalp.

Vitamin C, Zinc and Vitamin B are other important nutrients for great hair health. So include lot of fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains in your daily diet. Next important step is to follow good hair care - Oiling your hair with a mixture of oils like olive, sesame, coconut and castor oil keeps provides moisture to your hair and prevent them from drying and breakage. Cold in Children - Home Remedies For Treatment
Hello, everybody, I am Dr Rahul Yadav, a paediatrician. Today we'll be discussing a very important topic with our home remedies related to children regarding cold.

So now, as you all know cold and chest congestion is very common among children and it might occur as many times as six to seven times every year. This is a pretty much normal for each and every kid. If you have a child you would have definitely experienced the agony of the child having cold and chest condition during any time during his childhood.

So, first of all, I would like to give you one piece of warning. A child with cold and chest congestion having sneezing, which might be increased intensity of sounds when the child is breathing in or out, signs of respiratory distress which might be increased, work of breathing increase rate or breathing or difficulty in even uttering normal words. In that scenario, you have to rush the child immediately go to the nearest doctor or to an emergency or hospital near your home. Another scenario would be if your child is suffering from asthma. In that scenario, I would advise you to take proper precautions and follow the instructions of your doctor regarding inhalers or nebulizers before trying any of the following home remedies.

So what actually can become very indiscreet. Home remedies can treat a child suffering from cold with no signs of respiratory distress with a few gurgling sounds while breathing.

Is it actually useful? Actually yes home remedies might even be better than medicines. Any common day-to-day cold and chest congestion. So what are the home remedies can do. One is the easiest would be to start honey. Honey has natural immune boosters which you can easily stage.

Can it be given to each and every child?

Yes, it can be given to each and every child but do not use it for any child less than one year of age. The reason behind it would be because of the incidence of bottling improxim in the honey which can be very deadly towards the less than one year of age.

You can even mix the honey with a little bit of lemon juice or ginger paste to make the child accept those Honey well. With honey you have to just pick up the caution in a case of a diabetic child and that you should not be over given the honey but in an otherwise, you can give the honey as many as times as you want. Maybe 1 psf every three to four hour. Another thing another home remedy that you can try out is humidification. Humidification can be done by either a cold humidification or humidification. Cold humidification is safer. Warm humidification is by the steam. Steam is very dangerous in a child as it can lead to burns also. So the better way is to close all the doors and windows of the house and thus put the steamer in one corner of the room and let the whole room be humid, that will help the child a lot. Another thing that you can do is to use normal sign nasal drops to keep the nostrils of the child clean. As the child's nose remains clean, the child will be able to breathe easier and would be much more comfortable and would even respond better to other measures. As you have to remember that cold in a child is ninety-nine percent because of viruses and that it generally takes seven to ten days for the treatment to average space and it's a natural course of the disease. So have to wait for that time you have to be patient. These are the common remedies that you can do which will elevate most of the symptoms that your child would be suffering from.

If you have any other queries regarding this or any other issues regarding to pediatrics you can contact me at lybrate.com.

Sore Throat - Causes And Remedies
Hello everyone,

I am Dr Madhulika Sharma. I have been practicing daily for 15 years and I would be telling you precisely on the topic of sore throat. People are not that aware of the topic sore throat because what they feel is the common complaints that I have irritation in the throat, I have been feeling of dryness, I have a little bit of pain in my throat that really pains and when I swallow these are the common complaints so many a times reason not only associated with sore throat some of the patients have others some have actual infections from other things associated with that show not only the treatment is the same every time.

So we need to consult a specialist to treat it the most common cause of sore throat as you call it pain in the throat is viral infection which in most of the case they do not need to treatment at all they can be mild infection in case of mild infection simple gargle simple home remedies will also help but yeah if you do not feel comfortable even after 2 days. You should go to the specialist then. The second most common cause is bacterial infections in those cases the patients will have fever and have small swellings Indian roads there are other associated symptoms like fever which is not responding to medication at all.

All these symptoms can be associated with most commonly with bacterial infection. then apart from that sometimes these infections lead to abscess formation that is all the more grave because many times we do take medication from outside and they just keep continuing that and then the abscess builds up and then that leads to severe complications so whatever we take simple medicines we should try only for 2-3 days not more than that because after that it becomes difficult for patients as well as doctor.

Now I apart from this many a times very few patients come with pain in throat they have been taking treatment and actually the causes something else sometimes there are other inside the throat that only we can see only ENT specialist can examine then we can come to know that you have this problem and just treating the answer itself reads the problem right then sometimes there are foreign bodies that are stuck in the throat people think that it is sore throat and start taking medication for that so all these things have to be treated only after proper examination and but of course it is not a Grave problem most of the times so initial one or two days you can of course take medication rest simple warm saline gargle is a wonder drug that can help each and every patient and you can always contact me online rate on other sites and I would be really happy to help you.

Thank you so much!

Knee Pain: Things You Can Do At Home To Get Rid Of It
Hello! friends,

I am Dr. Kunal Makhija. I am in Orthopedist and a joint replacement surgeon practicing in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.

Today we will talk about knee pain. The second most common complaint in any Orthopaedic clinic. We won't discuss any surgeries or any treatment or any medicines. We will discuss the basics of knee pain, what is the physiology of the knee pain and what a common man should know about knee pain. The most common causes of knee pain are osteoarthritis, injury, synovitis or softening of cartilage. Now to understand all four things, I will explain to you what these 4 things are and how can you tackle them and how can you come to know that what these things represent.

A knee consists of the femur bone, tibia bone, these are the ligaments and these white cushion like the thing is a cartilage. Usually, in case of the softening of cartilage, there is softening of these white cushion like materials which is extremely common behind kneecap or patella. So usually the patient will present with patellofemoral pain which is more while climbing down stairs or when he or she is sitting for long and he starts walking, the first few steps would be extremely painful.

This is mainly because of the softening of cartilage behind the kneecap known as chondromalacia patella. The second cause is an injury. The injury will be of ligament or of this meniscus. A ligament injury or a meniscus injury will cause pain in ligament injury one will have extreme instability especially while running, climbing down steps or hopping. In meniscus injury, there would be a pain while long walks and extreme flexion of the knee. The third cause is synovitis. Synovitis is swelling in the knee which will be associated with extreme swelling, redness, and warmth usually associated with some viral infection or maybe the underlying cause.

The patient will have extreme pain associated with body aches for fever and he or she might proceed with a viral infection like the common cold and all. The fourth cause is osteoarthritis which is very well known and it is a degeneration of this white cartilage. Usually, this is a mild form of degeneration, you can see this and this is the severe form of degeneration. This cartilage when destroyed will cause extreme pain in all movements and might cause deformity in the knee as well.

So all these four common causes, they are not always in extreme form. They might start with a mild form, then go to moderate and severe form. So before they go to the severe form and they hamper your regular activities, one can start the prevention as soon as there is some knee pain. These are lifestyle changes, physiotherapy and some exercises. Lifestyle modification means if one is going to the gym, I would suggest cycling and swimming are the best exercises for knee. One can even walk in water if one does not know swimming and one should avoid treadmill and be climbing downstairs because a knee is a joint which accommodates all weight while walking. When a person is walking, suppose a 50 kg person is walking while climbing downstairs the knee joint will experience twice.
