Gaining Weight Health Feed

Sir, my body is not made. I am very thin, I am 17 years old. I feel hungry too. Occasionally, my head starts to feel sad. Now my clothes begin to loose, tell me some medicine from 1 or 2 months. Please advice how to gain my weight and cure from this problem.

Firstly I would like to clarify that there are no medicines available for weight loss. You are very young right now and your metabolism would be working very well. Exercise also helps you to induce hunger and hence one tends to eat more, where food gets digested in a better way. You should include complex carbohydrates from food sources and proteins from eggs, chicken, milk and dairy products. Also Include butter and nuts in your diet. Its important to follow a healthy diet which has optimal amounts of first class proteins (dairy products, egg, fish, etc) complex carbohydrates (oats, brown rice etc) & healthy fats (almonds, walnuts etc )along with a structured exercise program that is balanced with weight training and cardio will surely help. Take high calory balanced diet. You are in growing age do some stretching exercises, play vollyball, basketball,skipping. Avoid weight lifting.

A thorough medical examination is essential if you have a poor appetite and not gaining weight inspite of eating properly. Generally,weight gain needs patience and happens gradually with improved appetite and sensible eating. Weight gain needs a healthy wholesome diet with increase in proteins, healthy fats and required carbohydrate intake. Include more of fish, eggs, chicken, nuts and oilseeds in your diet with ample quantity of fresh fruits and vegetables. Do not skip meals and eat frequently. Do some exercise along so that digestion is good. Take care that you do not have constipation and are properly hydrated. Your weight is not less. You don't have to try too hard to gain weight. Weight starts increasing when you reach in early 20s. Now you should focus on leading an active life and doing 30 mins of exercise daily. All the best.

Include various shakes and smoothies, dry fruits and nuts, ghee and other healthy fats, multigrain or whole wheat bread, cheese to your diet. Eat more potatoes, rice and bananas. You can also try peanut butter or other nut butters. Increase your protein consumption. If you eat non-veg, eat it more often. If not then have paneer, chickpeas, dals and other beans and lentils.
