We visited to a neuro psychiatry doctor for my father as he was getting irritated for small things and very serious in small things. He took the medicine as prescribed by the doctor for one month. And for some skin issue he visited a doctor and was asked for diabetics test. Also taking medicine for skin disease as prescribed by doctor. Diabetics was normal earlier and after the test it came 465 (after food. So also he visited the diabetics doctor and is taking medicine for also. And now the neuro psychiatry doctor has changed the medicine which he has taken for 3 days and is denying to take and telling I can't take several medicine at a time. His mental condition is somewhat fine now. He is not getting irritated as he was getting earlier. So my query is can he stop the medicine prescribed by the neuro psychiatry doctor. Is after stopping the medicine will it cause some side effects or symptoms. The medicine are sulpitac 200 and prodine 5 mg. please reply my query. The doctor is not answering my call and appointment will be the next month 20th.

Dear lybrate-user,
it is nice of you to worry about your father. You can stop sulpitac and prodine, if you wish. It may not cause any withdrawal symptoms. But the original symptoms for which you consulted the doctor may come back. Either prepare to face them and restart the tablets or coax him to continue the tablet till next appointment. It is common or people to refuse to take psychiatric tablets.
