Esophagectomy is a procedure of removing a part of the esophagus and reconstructing the same using another organ of the body. The esophagus is the tube that connects the stomach and the mouth. This procedure is often performed in an advanced stage of esophageal cancer and Barrett s esophagus. This procedure removes the cancer cells from the esophagus and gives relief from the symptoms. Sorry to know about your mother suffering. From what I guess unable to swallow is troubling her more .For that there are options of either to insert Endoscopy guided Ryles tube (food pipe) or Esophageal Stent. If the above not possible then there is another option of doing a small surgery to insert a tube directly into the Jejunum that known as Feeding Jejunostomy. Please discuss all the options with your Oncologist for better guidance.
