No the episode is not an absence seizure that has different features, but it may be related to his medicine intake and may have been drowsy. I suggest you keep amental note of the episode and continue with medication, in case it recurs you must visit your doctor as it may be a seizure (not necessarily absence) and he may have to be reviewed.

I am sorry to hear about your concern but will be happy to assist you.
Most seizures end on their own and cause minimal concerns. Yet during some seizures, people can injure themselves, develop other medical problems or life-threatening emergencies. The overall risk of dying for a person with epilepsy is 1.6 to 3 times higher than for the general population.
Let's connect over a call so that we can discuss your concern in details and make a suitable treatment plan for you.

please go ahead and get covid vaccination for your mother. Epilepsy and the medication is no cause for not taking the vaccine. Covid vaccine is almost a must for your mother.

There is no evidence that persons with epilepsy are at higher risk of side effects after vaccination. As with any vaccine, some persons may develop a fever which could lower their seizure threshold for the short term, and rarely could result in a break-through seizure. There is no evidence that this vaccination results in worsening of the epilepsy, or brain injury.
