Hello, the temporal lobe disease affects the memory severely, but it appears that your father has had most likely herpes simplex encephalitis or auto immune encephalitis. It nis very early to predict how much memory loss he will finally have. The best approach will be to make sure that he comes out of the illness without much damage and later rehab can be started. Memory will be improving on its own once he is back in his familiar surroundings.

It is good that your medication is being decreased gradually, drinking is not contraindicated for you but you should drink maximum 120 ml once a week.

3 antiepileptics are not usually needed unless they are resistant. You can take a neurology consult. Zenoxa would be the best choice. Other two needs to be tapered slowly over a period of time.

It could be a case of west syndrome where eeg is characteristic of mountain waves also looks for any skin lesions in your child becoz it may be associated with tuberous sclerosis.
