Hi removal of adenoids should definitely help.
But you should at least try once more with proper course of antibiotics and decongestants before going for surgery as your baby is underweight should increase his/her nutrition too.

Tonsillitis is a disorder of the tonsils present on the back of the throat.
It is mere * myth * that the tonsils acts as a defensive mechanism in the body as they prevent the body from infections. Tonsillitis can occur at any age. It is widely prevalent among school going kids as they get exposed to the different environment for the first time.
With age advances frequency of attacks reduces because the body gains immunity after each episode.

You have not specified your age. But since you have tried everything for relief I would suggest to go in for removal of tonsils (tonsillectomy) and adenoids also. Consult a ent surgeon for the same in a good hospital. You will require anaesthesia and one day stay in the hospital. Choose a hospital where surgery is done by laser. An ent surgeon can best advise you.

Try to control the food he eats. Any thing which causes throat irritation or allergy or infection or inflammation should be avoided. Any thing which is very cold or spicy or having masala powder in it like chips should be avoided. After the age of twelve tonsils automatically starts to regress.

Tonsillar enlargement in children is physiological as they help in immunity.in your case, their enlargement indicates a chronic irritation of your throat. It may be due to mucous dripping from behind your nose (sinusitis) or severe gastritis. Consult an ENT specialist to rule out any nasal focus of infection.
