Perforation in the eardrum should be closed by tympanoplasty. This prevents recurrent ear discharge, improves hearing and prevents further complications. The drawbacks are, it is not successful in all cases .you should follow certain precautions in the postoperative period until the graft has taken. You should consult your doctor when ever you get a head cold or ear ache.
