The presence of other symptoms or a bump that's more than a couple of inches across should be examined in an emergency room. A bump that doesn't get smaller within a few days should also be checked out by a doctor. Usually, hematomas disappear on their own and require no treatment.

As you can see, it's important to understand the five reasons why a wound won't heal: poor circulation, infection, edema, insufficient nutrition, and repetitive trauma to the wound.

When germs get into the sensitive tissues beneath our skin via the cut, the cut may become infected. An infection can develop any time between two or three days after the cut occurred until it's visibly healed.

Often, right at the beginning of the healing process, your wound feels warm. This is because the white blood cells are fighting germs or bacteria. But, if the injury is feeling warm after the first five days, it may mean your body is fighting to keep bacteria and infection away.
