Hi
after thyroidectomy the reason for decreased calcium is mainly due to parathyroid dysfunction. After surgery due to handling of thyroid gland there can be dysfunction for some time but the function is regained after some months. Do keep doing serum calcium levels every now and then.
Consult an endocrinologist if required.
Regards.

Hello. No need of any antioxidants or immunity booster. Body becomes accustomed to surgical stress on it's own. No need to take extra medications. Just get serum calcium levels and thyroid function tests done.

Dear lybrate-user,
after tota thyroidectomy for papillary thyroid cancer the dose of thyroxine should be adjusted to maintain tsh < 0.1 uiu/ml for the initial 5 years at least. I assume you are now on 100 ug once daily this may have to be increased to 2 tablets taken on an empty stomach. Do not miss any dose. If you forget in the morning take it when you remember. After 3 months check tsh and make sure it is less than 0.1. You will need thyroxine lifelong and I am sure your doctor would have...more

Dear Ravi,
The transplanted parathyroids take time to start functioning normally again.During surgery their blood supply can get compromised and they may not function well again.
Meanwhile you can consult your doctor and increase the dose of calcium.
Get the serum calcium repeated after 1 month and then we can reassess what to do.
