Asked for male, 30 years old from Hyderabad

I am having ear discharge. I consulted an ent specialist and asked for swab culture. The report showed as bacterial infection and gentamicin is effective. Is using ear drops of gentamicin ok for the treatment or I should go for tablets. Also that I have ruptured eardrum. Please suggest better treatment for the same. I did not asked this on this platform before. Thanks.

I did swab culture for my ear discharge. It shows bacterial infection to which gentamicin is applicable. Is it ok to use ear drops with tablets for the treatment? Also the endoscope showed that I had a hole in the eardrum. Please inform what should be taken as best treatment. Thank you.

Do not use gentamicin topical if you have a perforation in eardrum. It is an ototoxic drug and may harm. Consult online with your reports and later get operated once situation gets normalize!

Health Query

After taking bath I was cleaning my ears yesterday but unfortunately when I was trying to clean my ear wax from very inside, slowly I realized that one of my ear is blocked from yesterday to till now it is still blocked I am feeling hearing loss like something will blocked my ears from inside I am not feeling that one of my ear is properly open from tomorrow I thought that sow wax will blocked my ear so I tried to clean but its not working. I am able to reach inside where I feel that the spot where I reached is that spot where the wax is there and blockage is occurred but its very inside approx 2 inch. I don't have any ear pain only feeling that it is blocked from tomorrow to till now. What can I do now to get rid from this problem please help.

Best way is to get appointment from nearby ent doctor. He ll clean the ear properly and check for any other issues also. Hearing test may also be done if needed.

Dear lybrate-user, a blocked sensation in the ear is not only due to wax. If there is a middle ear problem, such as fluid buildup, or negative pressure/ or injury to the middle ear ossicles and even an inner ear pathology can all present as blocked sensation. The treatment for each of these conditions is different. You need to consult a good ent surgeon to rule out any other cause of your problem. Army officers generally check for decayed teeth. They only give you points if you have cavities.
