Hello doctor, I want to ask you about sugar disease so what you recommended in sugar?
Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. The "sugar disease" is known as Diabetes Mellitus. This occurs either due to deficiency of the hormone Insulin (secreted by Beta cells of Islets of Langerhans of Pancreas) or due to the resistance to the action of Insulin (mostly due to excess fatin the body) or both. Because Insulin action is affected or there less or no insulin blood glucose levels go up. This causes various long term complication of diabetes affecting eyes (retina), kidneys, male sex organ, coronary arteries, peripheral nerves etc. This disease can only be controlled with proper drugs, restricted diet and regular exercise. There is no cure. Thanks.

Doctor please suggest to me tablet for sugar control. My fasting sugar is 226 on 19/02/2018.
Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Fasting blood glucose 226 mg is very high. Suggesting totally uncontrolled diabetes. In such a situation, suggesting any treatment based on only fasting glucose is not right at all. To suggest any kind of treatment following details are required: Fasting & PP blood glucose, HbA1c%, daily dietary pattern extent of daily exercise, BP readings & lipid profile. Based on those details a proper treatment plan can be devised, which needs to be meticulously adhered to. Another important aspect is that your weight is very high for the height, with a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 31.22 kgs /M2 (normal < 23 kgs/L), you are in grade 1 obesity. This is one of the main reasons for developing diabetes. This means you will have to follow a modified lifestyle with strict diet control and regular exercise, in addition to whatever treatment is given. Therefore, if interested please come back with all the above relevant information in a private conversation (paid consultation), then I will be able to specific advice and even prescribe necessary drugs. In this communication we are advised to give only general guidelines, no drug prescriptions are allowed. If you do not want online consultation, please contact your local doctor and start treatment immediately. Thanks.

Please tell me the symptoms of sugar. Also tell me the precautions of sugar. And medicine of sugar.
Hello Sir, By sugar, I presume you mean diabetes. Type-2 diabetes in about 50 percent of people is asymptomatic- that means they do not have any symptoms. It is found out incidentally by doing blood glucose test for some other reason. In about 50 percent, the patients have symptoms like loss of weight, increased hunger and thirst, increased urination, tiredness, skin problems etc. To prevent getting diabetes you need to consume a good healthy and well balanced diet with plenty of vegetables. Avoid/restrict processed food and food made of maida, avoid junk food and deep fried items. Restrict or avoid sweets/chocolate, cakes etc. Take at least 2 fruits everyday. Take adequate quantities of protein-dal/eggs/non-veg. Take normal quantities (at least 1/3 of your plate) of carbohydrates like rice, roti etc. Take milk, buttermilk etc. Do at least 45 min of exercise everyday-running, cycling, swimming etc Do not become overweight or obese. If you have diabetes I would suggest to see a doctor as self-medication is dangerous. I hope this helps you Thank you.

It's not really bad but being in control is a good habit. So make health a priority in life. You have to view it with a holistic approach and make necessary changes in your daily routine. This would include eating only healthy food and ( restricting or avoiding junk food and processed food and beverages ). Have a good breakfast within 2 hours if getting up. Exercise every day so that you feel relaxed mentally and can easily control your cravings. Add Yoga into your routine for a few minutes. Have fruits whenever there is cravings for sugar. ( It's a better alternative to sugar ). Read more about healthy lifestyle and follow the good habits.

Please doctor is 5.1mmol fasting sugar level normal? And what food help to maintain sugar level.
The normal blood glucose level (tested while fasting) for non-diabetics, should be between 3.9 and 7.1 mmol/l so yours is normal blood sugar. Follow this 1. Don't take tea empty stomach. Eat something like a banana (if you are not diabetic) or any seasonal fruit or soaked almonds and a glass of water first thing in the morning (within 10 mins of waking up). No only biscuits or rusk will not do. 2. Don't overeat 3. Take your breakfast every day. Don't skip it. U should eat whatever your mother or grandparent eat in bfast. I mean to say whatever is your traditional food. If punjabi eat paratha, if belongs to south then take idli/ dosa etc. 4. Have light meals every 2 hours (in addition to your breakfast, lunch n dinner) e.g. Nariyal paani, chaach, a handful of dry fruits, a handful of peanuts, any fresh n seasonal fruit (eat whole fruit not juice), a cup of curd/milk etc 5. Take simple food like rice n dal in dinner. Finish your dinner at least 2 hours before going to sleep. 6. Maintain active life style7. Avoid fast foods, spicy n fried foods, carbonated beverages 8. Take a lot of green vegetables n fruit. 9. Drink lot of water.10. Everyday preferably sleep on same time exercise in the form of yoga, cycling, swimming, gym etc. For more details, you can consult me.
