Hi lybrate-user, sorry to say this there is no home remedy for your mothers problem all she have to do is get the filling done or eat on the other side. Try not to fill with any materials which could lead to a serious problem in future.

I fell down while riding bicycle around 7 years back. My front tooth was not vitalized and got a filling in it and the dentist asked me to get it checked after I turn 18. It's been three years since I turned 18 and I haven't visited a dentist yet. Recently, I noticed that tooth turning a bit black. Does it need immediate attention?

. You may need cleaning along with desensitizing procedures and / or artificial enamel filling and / or root canal treatment. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. You may consult me in person. Until then apply a desensitizing paste (sensodyne tooth paste) on the teeth. Wait for 10 to 15 min until you brush your teeth with the same paste. Applying it overnight will be better.

Hello, first of all pain is not the only criteria to conclude weather a filling or a root canal is required in the tooth, Sometimes you might have pain and still the tooth require just the filling and sometimes you dont have pain but tooth will go for root canal. So X-ray is required for that tooth based on which the extent of decay can be seen if the decay have reached the centre sensitive part that is pulp it will go for root canal but if there is sound tooth structure between the decay and pulp it can be filled. Thanks

Hi Sir, I had tooth filling from 8 years. Suddenly there is a severe pain on this tooth. 1. No pain while chewing or tapping tooth. 2. But severe pain during drinking / eating hot / cold food. 3. Pain is there upto 20-30 mins after hot/cold drink/food. I had visited dentist. He checked 1st teeth 1. He checked teeth is ok and white. 2. He checked tooth feeling is also ok. 3. I informed about above severe pain and sensitivity. 4. He taped teeth but no pain there and after 3-4 days pain is gradually decreased compare to previously. 5. Then he checked with x-ray. He saw something in x-ray and told me that there is "sado"(" caries) below tooth feeling. He said he doesn't know how it reached there. He advised me for root canal. And prescribed antibiotics and painkillers. I asked home about 2nd time tooth re filling after cleaning caries. But he said it's not possible and root canal required. Nowy questions are 1. Is it possible to remove tooth filling and clean care and again do 2nd time tooth filling? 2. My pain is reduced. After taking antibiotics, will it resolve on its own? 3 how caries is present under feeling? 4. Should I do rct or wait?

Root Canal Treatment - Know The Procedure!

Root Canal Treatment - Know The Procedure!

A root canal is a treatment to repair and save a badly damaged or infected tooth. The procedure involves removing the damaged area of the tooth (the pulp), cleaning and disinfecting it and then filling and sealing it. The common causes affecting the pulp are a cracked tooth, a deep cavity, repeated dental treatment to the tooth or trauma. The term "root canal" comes from cleaning of the canals inside the tooth's root.

Millions of teeth are treated and saved each year with root canal, or endodontic, treatment. Learn more about root canal treatment and how it can relieve your tooth pain and save your smile.

The Procedure-

  1. A root canal procedure begins with an X-ray to determine the shape of the root canals and whether the infection has spread to the adjoining bone.

  2. Local anesthesia is then administered to numb the affected area.

  3. A rubber sheet is then placed around the tooth to keep the area and prevent it from the saliva.

  4. A hole is then drilled in the affected tooth, following which the decayed pulp and nerve tissues are removed.

  5. The removal is done by using root canal files which are inserted into the hole and then used to scrape and scrub the insides of the tooth.

  6. After the scraping, water is used to clean and flush out the debris.

  7. After the tooth is cleaned, it is sealed after administering medications to prevent infection.

  8. The sealing process involves filling the inner portion of the teeth by a rubber based compound and a sealer paste.

Modern endodontic treatment is very similar to having a routine filling and usually can be completed in one or two appointments, depending on the condition of your tooth and your personal circumstances. You can expect a comfortable experience during and after your appointment.

Saving the natural tooth with root canal treatment has many advantages:

  • Efficient chewing

  • Normal biting force and sensation

  • Natural appearance

  • Protects other teeth from excessive wear or strain

Post-obturation:

  1. Once the treatment is done, the tooth may become sensitive due to inflammation of the tissues for the first few days.

  2. This pain and inflammation can be limited by pain medications such as ibuprofen.

  3. It is advised to avoid any chewing by the affected teeth as it can slow down the repair process. You can brush and floss your teeth regularly.

If it is just composite layering without gross tooth preparation, your dentist can remove it for you. You can go for laminates instead ,after your dentist shows you a mock wax up on a model so that you can express your likes and dislikes regarding the outcome ,and get the final laminates after necessary modifications. Laminates will provide superior esthetic results with minimal tooth preparation.

Once the fillings are done it's difficult to remove. Plus the margins made around tooth. To cover them. Lot of work has been done. You may visit dentist and get them polished.
