Simple And Effective Tips For A Perfect Skin Tone!

The skin is exposed to many things, which causes it to lose its luster and appear dull. Apart from the external factors certain internal factors also cause skin darkening. Internal factors, such as what you eat and how much you exercise also affect its condition and thus in turn, affects how you look. Your skin may develop dark spots, blemishes and tan. Let’s look at some of the ways this can be tackled resulting in fairer skin.

Changing lifestyle habits and your daily routine:

  1. Protection from the sun: Many of the blemishes and spots on your skin are due to the exposure you have had to the sun. Thus ensure that you have sufficient UV protection with the best possible SPF levels that suit your skin. Generally, in Indian climate, an SPF count of 30 is recommended. However, the correct SPF count would depend on one’s skin texture. Wear hats as well as sunglasses while outside to prevent tanning as well as dark circles.
  2. Exfoliate regularly: This is an important step as most of the dead skin cells on your body are darker in skin tone than the newer cells beneath them. If you exfoliate regularly, then this layer of dead skin cells will be removed making you fairer. However, don’t exfoliate more than two times a week as it would lead to excessively dry skin.

Homemade lightening treatments for your skin:

  1. Turmeric paste: You can make turmeric paste with either olive oil or milk and then make it into a mask. Apply it and keep it for 20 minutes and then wash it off with warm water. Doing this for a few days should result in noticeable results.
  2. Lemon Juice rinse: Mix equal amounts of lemon juice from half a lemon with water in a glass. Then dab this mixture on your face body and hands and keep it there for 20 minutes or so. Apply moisturizer and don’t go out in the sun immediately. Do this for a few days a week and you should see results quickly.
  3. Potato rub: Cut a potato into thick slices and ensure that you rub it over the face or on areas where you want to lighten the skin.
  4. Other treatments: Other home remedies also include, green coconut water rinses, honey lemon masks and papaya masks among others.

Under Eye Dark Circles - Easy Ways You Can Get Rid Of Them!

Most of us have had those days when we look into the mirror and suddenly notice under-eye bags and puffy dark circles staring back at us. The secret to getting rid of dark circles is not just getting a good night’s sleep. There is more to it

Causes of dark circles
Inherited issue – Majority of people who have dark circles inherit it from their parents. If your parents have thin skin or high-pigmentation in the under-eye area of the skin, you can get it too.

  • It can lead to volume depletion under the eyes.
  • If you are prone to skin allergies, it can increase your chances of getting dark circles under the eyes.
  • Frequent eye rubbing can lead to darkened eyes.
  • People who have thin, pale skin have glaring blood vessels, which manifest itself as a reddish-purple hue showing through.

Seven effective ways to get rid of dark circles

  1. Try retinoid: Retinoid helps to build collagen and aids the recovery of skin volume and fairness. Consult with a dermatologist and use them to prevent thin skin under the eyes, thereby improving dark circles.
  2. Use skin-lightening products and sunscreen: At times, dark circles result from increased pigment, either from rubbing or sun damage. Try topical lightening agents like Vitamin C, Licorice extract or Kojic acid to decrease skin pigmentation and eliminate dark circles. Also, invest in a good broad-spectrum sunscreen that contains zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.
  3. Take an antihistamine: If allergies are causing puffy eye problems, taking antihistamine drugs will help to clear them up and keep your under-eye issues under control.
  4. Follow a healthy sleep routine: A regular sleep routine with the right amount of sleep time will help a great deal to reduce the stress and as a result get rid of dark circles.
  5. Double up your pillows and sleep on your back: If you have dark circles due to vascular issues, use an extra pillow and sleep on your back to stop blood from building up under your eyes.
  6. Cool down: You can also try to apply a cold compress for 10 to 20 minutes to constrict your blood vessels. Cucumber slices, gel eye masks, cold wash rags and chilled tea bags can be used to make your eyes feel fresh and look brighter.
  7. Follow a minimum-salt dietExcess salt and less water can cause your body to retain more water, thus causing under-eye bags. Therefore, avoid too much salt in your diet and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

What You Need to Know About Eyelid Surgery Before Going For It?

What You Need to Know About Eyelid Surgery Before Going For It?

Eyelid surgery or Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic surgery, which is used to correct droopy eyelids. It reduces the saggy quality of lower eyelids which you get with age and also rids of the excess skin from the upper lids. Apart from making your eyes look younger, Blepharoplasty also enhances your peripheral vision which can get affected due to sagging skin. An eyelid surgery does not help you get rid of dark circles or crow's feet which you get on the outer corner of your eyes.

Reasons to Consider Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery is a good option if you want to get rid of the sagging skin from your lower eyelids or the excess skin on your upper eyelids. Sometimes with age your lower eyelids may appear puffy, making you look old and exhausted all the time. An eyelid surgery can make your eyes look younger and livelier and also do away with the grooves and lines formed under your eyes.

Precautions to take after the Surgery

You need to stay indoors after the surgery for more than a week for your eyelids to heal. You may suffer from dry eyes; so always keep ice packs handy. Your doctor may prescribe eye drops or artificial tears, according to your needs. Make sure you always use clean towels and consume painkillers only if your doctor recommends.

It is of primary importance to follow up the surgery with postoperative care. Your doctor will give you detailed information about dressing, a dosage of antibiotics, activity level allowed and also the complications which can arise. Make sure you follow all the instructions and are prepared for the symptoms associated with it.

Risks associated with Eyelid Surgery

Fortunately, major complications associated with Blepharoplasty are rare; yet there could be some side effects of this surgery. Sometimes, there might be cases of infection and bleeding or a bad reaction to anesthesia. Hematoma or accumulation of blood under the skin is also one of the side effects of eyelid surgery.

How Exercise Can Help Maintain Healthy and Flawless Skin?

It is a commonly known fact that regular exercise is a necessary part of staying healthy and keeping fit. Physical exercise isn't just about losing weight or increasing stamina. It also has countless health benefits, which promote holistic well-being of an individual.
One such benefit of exercise is improved skin health. Proper and regular exercise is known to keep the skin healthy and flawless through many different ways.
Following are the different ways in which exercising keeps the skin healthy and flawless:

1. Improved blood circulation - The cardiovascular benefits of exercising promote blood circulation in the body and skin. This allows oxygen and nutrient supply to the skin to get improved, especially in the outer layers, thereby promoting skin health.

2. Reduced stress and anxiety - Mental health issues such as stress and anxiety have a damaging effect on skin, making it appear dull and aged. Exercising treats these issues through the release of endorphins in the body, which reduces stress and anxiety. Thus, it effectively works in making skin look flawless and radiant.

3. Boosted immunity - Regularly exercising keeps the body's immune system boosted. This includes skin immunity, making the skin less susceptible to diseases and infections. Therefore, skin remains healthy and glowing.

4. Improved sleeping habits - Having an improper sleep cycle and not getting enough sleep can lead to the formation of dark circles and swollen bags under the eyes. Regular exercise can induce restful sleep and promote healthy sleeping habits, making skin appear rested and healthy.

5. Toned muscles - Exercise tones the muscles in the body, which makes the skin clean and tight and prevents the formation of cellulite. This keeps the skin from sagging and gives it an unblemished appearance.

6. Improved gland function - Functioning of the mucous glands and sweat glands in the skin is improved through exercising. This keeps the skin free from pimples and acne and makes it look spotless and resplendent.

Snow Cell Therapy - How It Is Beneficial For Skin?

Snow Cell Therapy - How It Is Beneficial For Skin?

Everyone wants a clear, flawless skin. However, not everyone is blessed with such skin. Most of us find ourselves fighting against pimples, dark spots, acne scars, etc. from time to time. The good news is that even if you weren’t born with clear skin, there are treatments that can give you the glow you dream of. Snow Cell Therapy is one such form of skin treatment.

This type of therapy aims at removing toxins from your body and in turn whitening your skin. It can even out dark spots, lower the impact of dark lips and help treat age spots, dark circles and other such skin flaws. Additionally, it offers a long-term solution to wrinkles. However, it cannot be used to treat skin problems caused by hormonal issues such as acne. This is because it does not influence hormone levels in the body.

Snow cell therapy involves the use of glutathione that must be injected into the skin. Glutathione is a naturally occurring element that is produced by the body, but in very low amounts. It also contains minerals that boost the levels of Vitamin C and a number of other amino acids. This injection must be given intravenously. The injection is administered with quick impacts that quickly distributes the medicine throughout the body. Delivering medication in this way makes the therapy more effective than other skin whitening techniques such as pills and topical creams.

When undergoing snow cell therapy, it is essential to consult a certified dermatologist. This is because this form of therapy may have a few side effects if not performed correctly. You must ensure that fresh needles are used so as to avoid the transmission of diseases. In some cases, patients who are injected with the medication more than thrice a week may complain of stomach aches. Long-term use of this medication may also cause skin malignancy, rashes and hives.

Overall, this form of treatment has a high success rate. The results are not only quick, but are also permanent. However, to maintain the effects of the treatment, follow-up visits may be required.  In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Under Eye Dark Circles

 Under eye dark circles

Skin around the eye is the most delicate on the body in fact, it is said to be up to 10 times thinner compared to the skin on the rest of the face. One common periorbital concern, with patients complaining of looking run-down, tired and older than their years, is dark under-eye circles. Dark circles are notoriously hard to treat, with a very small margin for error. They therefore all periorbital treatments should only be carried out by advanced practitioners with a thorough understanding of the anatomy of the area.

What causes dark circles?

There are many reasons why patients might appear to have dark circles under their eyes. The number one reason is hyperpigmentation of the skin and the second reason is to do with the anatomy of the area. As the skin is very thin, you don’t have a huge amount of subcutaneous or fatty tissue to bulk it out, therefore you are just looking at skin and blood vessels, which gives that dark appearance.

Anatomy and general ageing

In youth, the intersection between the lower eyelid and the check junction blends , and the area is naturally convex. But as we start to age, soft tissue breaks down, showing more of the underlying bone. By the mid 30s and early 40s, bony changes commence the eye sockets will start expanding, and the mid-face will start collapsing. The maxillary bone, which is responsible for projection of the anterior cheek, starts collapsing. Due to soft tissue and bony loss, the appearance of a dark circle worsens due to volume loss under the eye.

Hyperpigmentation

When it comes to hyperpigmentation around the eye, a huge contributing factor is ethnicity, with patients of darker skin types being genetically more prone to developing periorbital hyperpigmentation. Although Indians can have dark circles in their 20s, it is not common in fair skinned people.

Lifestyle

Lifestyle is another important factor to consider, as a dark under-eye can be a reflection of the patient’s general health. If a patient is in their 20s and has dark circles, it may be due to poor diet, anaemia, eye rubbing and late nights.

 Consult a plastic surgeon

The key to treating the periorbital area is assessment; assessment is probably the most important step because it is crucial to figure out what is actually causing the majority of that darkness. For example, if it is more of a pigmentation problem, then you can treat the pigmentation either using peels, creams or lasers. If it is to do more with the appearance of the blood vessels, and they don’t have pigmentation, but they have got very thin skin, then you can treat this differently with the likes of injectables and Fat fill. And structural defects due to volume loss or under eye bags needs fat graft and surgical correction with Blepharoplasty.

Treatment options

Fillers

The elimination of dark circles can be effectively achieved by volume augmentation of the tear trough, and this seems to be the most common treatment choice. If patients have hyperpigmentation we can create a camouflage treatment, where we use volumising product to reflect the light from the face, so you don’t see that shadow.

PRP

Another treatment option for this area is to use stem cells to regenerate the skin in the form of platelet rich plasma (PRP). The plasma is your own body’s growth factors and helps in repair of skin. It takes about three to six months to see the best results with multiple sessions. You will never get lifting or volume replacement like you would from dermal fillers or fat fill, but it does work nicely on the dark circles to provide skin rejuvenation.

Fat transfer

Using fat is another way of using stem cells in the tear trough, although this would require a surgical procedure. The advantage with fat is that it is what you would have had there in the first place, so you are replacing like with like. Because fat is full of stem cells, it can regenerate the skin to help with the dark circles and quality of skin in the long term.

Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty can address the fat bags or under eye bulges and also take care of excess skin seen with ageing. It can be performed without scar by trans-conjunctiva route and give the youthful look.

Creams

Various creams can address only the skin hyper pigmentation. The main ingredients in the cream are hydroquinone, Arbutin, Kojic acid, niacinamide. Also Topical caffeine and growth peptides have shown promising results for skin pigmentation.

Lasers

Various laser can be used in hyper pigmentation of skin like IPL, Q switch NdYag laser and RF. Pulse dye laser is particularly helpful in people with prominent vasculature in periorbital skin.

Under Eye Dark Circles - Natural Remedies For It!

For long, under eye dark circles have been associated with stress, fatigue, or lack of sound sleep. However, there are a lot more factors that contribute to the appearance of dark circles. It is a well-known fact that the skin under our eyes is thinner as compared to the other body parts.

Dark circles appear when there is a dilation of the blood vessels present under eyes. It is these dilated and swollen blood vessels that appear as dark circles under the eyes.

The dilation, inflammation, irritation or rupture of the blood vessels can be an outcome of

  1. An increased use of eye makeups, skin allergies, dermatological conditions such as Eczema.
  2. Increased exposure to sun rays.
  3. Dark circles can be a hereditary condition.
  4. The dark circles can also be an outcome of the eye bags or protruding fats pockets.
  5. With age, the lower eyelid (along with the rest of the face) may lose volume.

Treatments for Dark Circles

  1. In case the dark circles are an outcome of allergies or eczema, consult a doctor. The use of over the counter antihistamine medicines can reduce the swelling and the puffiness to a great extent, thereby reducing the dark circles. Caution: Avoid self-medication. The medicines used should be the doctor recommended.
  2. Cosmetic Blepharoplasty: This is a surgical procedure to enhance the appearance of your eyes by taking care of problems including dark circles, eye bags, droopy eyelids. Depending on the requirement, Blepharoplasty helps to get rid of the excess fats, muscles, skin or tissues either from the upper or lower eyelids or both (lower eyelids in the case of dark circles) to provide significant improvement.
  3. Chemical peels and Acugel therapy: Peels and acugel treatment help in reducing dark circles and eye bags to a great extent.
  4. The Laser therapy that uses an intense light beam into the target skin area (in this case, the skin under the eyes) can play an instrumental role in reducing the dark circles, thereby making the eyes look younger and rejuvenated.
  5. One can also try out some home and natural remedies such as
    • Potato, known for its bleaching properties can be used to deal with dark circles. Extract the potato juice (you can grate the potato). Dip a cotton in the potato juice and apply it on your closed eyes ensuring the dark circles are covered. Rinse off the eyes after 10-15 minutes with cold water. You can carry out the same procedure with rose water to reduce the dark circles.
    • Applying chilled cucumber slices or chilled green tea bags on the dark circles will produce fruitful results.
    • Packed with Vitamin E, almond oil can work wonders to reduce the dark circles. Gently massage the dark circles with almond oil before retiring to bed and then rinse it off (use cold water) the next morning.
  6. In addition to this, make sure you follow a healthy sleep routine (6-8 hours of daily sleep is a must).
  7. Take care of your diet. Foods such as eggs, salmon, green tea or avocados can produce significant improvement in the case of dark circles.
  8. Keep the body hydrated.

Dermal Fillers - Getting a Facelift!!

Dermal fillers (also called injectable facial fillers) are soft tissues injected into the skin. This is done to help fill up the hollowed and flattened facial features, smoothen folds and wrinkles, fatten the cheeks, correct bumps on the nose and forehead and increase the elasticity of the skin. With advancing age, your face loses firmness and volume of the facial muscles. A facelift is a non-surgical procedure which helps to restore and create healthier and more youthful features. Here are the things you should know about getting a liquid facelift with dermal fillers:

  1. The typically used dermal fillers are Juvederm, Reyslatine, Emervel, Radiesse and Belotero. There are several different kinds of fillers that are of different consistencies and volume.
  2. Fillers are composed of collagen fibers and hyaluronic acids (these come from organic sources) and a few biosynthetic compounds.
  3. A single treatment session takes about half to an hour.
  4. The swelling takes about 2 - 3days to subside and in many cases leaves no swelling.
  5. Depending upon the choice of dermal filler, the results of the facelift can last up to two years.
  6. The type of filler used, the depth to which they are introduced, the schedule of the sessions and the nature of the treatment - are all discussed and the factors are customized to fit your specific needs because each human being ages differently. Some people get facelifts to shape and sculpt a particular facial feature like the cheekbones. Facelifts are also done for sagging skin of the neck or drooping eyelids. They help tighten the loosening skin tissue layers of the jaws and chin.
  7. The fillers are not permanent and this is why they are completely safe. They can be broken down and expelled by the body naturally after a given period of time without any health risk.
  8. Restylane fillers can be used to treat dark circles, drooping eyebrows and remove bags from under your eyes.
  9. Defective structure of the lips can be corrected by dermal fillers.
  10. The advantage of a facelift using dermal fillers over a surgical treatment is that they can be altered with advancing age. Surgical solutions look fixed and artificial because they tighten the aging skin permanently. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!
