Cutaneous Leishmaniasis - Causes And Treatment

The most common form of leishmaniasis, cutaneous leishmaniasis is generally identified as a parasitic disease caused by the bite of infected sand flies and is responsible for causing skin sores. These skin sores vary in size and appearance and are susceptible to changes over time. They have often been described as miniature volcanoes, having slightly elevated edges with a central crater, and at times covered by a scab. Occasionally, swollen glands can appear in and around the sores, and may or may not be painful.

Causes:
Causes of cutaneous leishmaniasis include:

  1. Cutaneous leishmaniasis can be easily spread by the mere bite of certain types of phlebotomine sand flies. Initially, sand flies get infected when they bite an infected animal; say a rodent or a dog, or even another person already suffering from it. They then act as a vector agent and carry the virus around with them. If they happen to bite you, you will discover the growth of these volcanic skin sores gradually, if not immediately.
  2. Cutaneous leishmaniasis can also be spread via blood transfusions or through the use of contaminated needles.
  3. Occasionally, though very rarely, cutaneous leishmaniasis can also be spread from a pregnant mother to her newborn baby.

Treatment:
Cutaneous leishmaniasis can be treated in various ways. Some effective methods of treatment may include:

  1. Cryotherapy
  2. Local heat therapy (most suitably at around 40 degrees celsius)
  3. Several topical paromomycin preparations
  4. Certain types of sodium preparations
  5. Antibiotic therapy

If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dermatologist.

7 Types Of Cutaneous Lupus!

7 Types Of Cutaneous Lupus!

Some diseases like chicken pox, measles etc. have definitive symptoms that make it easy to diagnose. However, others like lupus affect each person in a different way making them complex diseases that may take longer to diagnose. Lupus attacks the immune system and causes the antibodies that would normally fight infection to react against the body’s own cells and tissues. There are two main forms of lupus; systemic lupus that affects any part of the body and cutaneous lupus that affects the skin. These can occur simultaneously or on their own.

Some of the rashes that can be caused by cutaneous lupus are:

  1. Malar rash or butterfly rash: This affects the face and appears as a butterfly shaped rash over the nose and cheeks. It is triggered by the sun’s uv rays and can appear as a faint blush or a severe, scaly rash.
  2. Discoid lupus: Lupus can also cause small. Coin shaped sores or rashes. These are reddish and scaly in appearance and usually affect parts of the body exposed to sunlight and uv radiation. If left untreated, these sores can worsen with time. Though they do not cause pain or itchiness, they can result in scarring. In cases where these sores develop on the scalp, they can cause permanent bald patches.
  3. Subacute cutaneous lesions: These can be described as small, red sores that are shaped like coins. These can be found on the arms, shoulders, neck and chest in patches that resemble psoriasis. These lesions are also triggered by uv exposure. Though they do not cause scarring, these lesions can lighten or darken skin.
  4. Mucous membrane lesions: Sores in the mouth or nose that have been triggered by lupus are known as mucous membrane lesions.
  5. BaldnessLupus can make the hair follicles near the scalp fragile and brittle. This can destroy the hair follicles and lead to hair fall. In some cases, hair may grow back while in others it could result in permanent baldness.
  6. Cutaneous vasculitis lesions: These refer to purplish spots or lines on the calves and feet. This is caused by the inflammation of skin tissues and can cause severe damage and gangrene.
  7. Raynaud's phenomenon: When exposed to cold, the skin on your fingers and toes may also change colour to red, white or blue due to lupus. This is triggered by the tightening of blood vessels and may be accompanied by a tingling sensation or numbness. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dermatologist.

Botox And Fillers

Botox And Fillers

Botox is the brand name of botulinum toxin which is also available under other brand names. It is a purified protein that relaxes muscles by paralyzing neuromuscular function. Though used in other conditions as well mostly it is used for aesthetic purposes nowadays.

  • Dermal fillers are biologically inert substances used to provided volume or fill the space where injected. It is used to replace or augment volume in part of skin or underlying fat. Though there are temporary and permanent fillers, we at Dr. Kumar's S-Thetics use and recommend only temporary fillers as it safe.
  • Face is the focus of human communication and the perception of attractiveness which doesn't escape with the passage of time. Creases or lines on the face can be caused due to aging, gravity, sun exposure, and smoking and from repeated muscle contractions as occurs with facial expressions (dynamic lines). These dynamic lines gradually change to static lines ingrained on the face even at rest which are regarded as a sign of aging. Even at a younger age there can be similar signs due to overuse.
  • Botox softens the wrinkles so that they relax, by blocking signals from the nerves to the particular muscles where it is injected. This helps in erasing the dynamic wrinkles which are formed due to contraction of the underlying muscle without the simultaneous contraction of the overlying skin due to loss of elasticity.
  • Dermal fillers are effective in erasing the static wrinkles which are ingrained on the skin. They also help in replacing the lost volume. Dermal filler is basically hyaluronic acid that is a naturally occurring substance found in all things alive and in humans, it is what relays essential nutrition from the bloodstream to the skin cells. The acid is found in high levels in the soft connective tissue as well as the fluid that surrounds the eyes. The acid can actually be extracted from the body, reformulated and used as filler to inject into the body. The manner in which the filler will work is that it will act like a cushion underneath the skin, offering volume or even elasticity to the facial features that might have lost their shape. In addition, the acid will also provide better hydration to the face, making it look healthy.
  •

Both botox and dermafiller are injectables. The process involves following steps -

  • Marking: The area to be injected is marked and patient is shown the point of injection.
  • Cleansing: Spirit is used to clean the area to prevent any sort of infection.
  • Anesthesia: Topical anesthetic cream or lotion is applied wherever need be. This step is skipped sometimes.
  • Position: Both injections are best given in sitting posture usually on a derma chair.
  • Injection: The botox is mixed with saline solution and required units are withdrawn in syringes. Fillers are loaded. Injections are given at desired points and depths.

Sometimes, the patients could get a mark at the place where the injections were injected, which may take up to two weeks to disappear.

Green Tea & Vitamin E capsules if being taken should be avoided for about a week prior to procedure. Avoiding strenuous exercisefor 2-3 days is required.

Botox takes around 7 days to show some actual full observable results, but after two weeks the results will be clear and noticeable not only to yourself, but also to everyone else out there. Dermafiller shows immediate effects but results improve over a period of a week or two.

This is perhaps one of the most minimally invasive anti-ageing treatments, because all that is required is a couple of syringes. Though largely seen as anti-aging, it also has wide range of applications in younger age.

The application of botox and dermafillers are following -

  • Reducing lines & wrinkles like forehead, crow’s feet, elevens, frown lines, etc.
  • To slim the face.
  • Reduce nasal flare.
  • Lift nose.
  • Sharpen jaw line.
  • Add pout to lips.
  • Open pores.
  • For excessive sweating on palms, soles, underarms etc.
  • Antiaging
  • Cheek augmentation to give that high cheek bone look
  • Sharpen jaw line
  • Medical rhinoplasty
  • Chin shaping
  • Lip augmentation
  • Brow shaping and lifting
  • Rejuvenation
  • Face lift
  • Static Wrinkles
  • Scars

It has very fruitful results. It is generally a safe procedure with less chances of complications. It is economical in terms of duration of effect. It has minimal recovery time. It gives healthier and fresher skin which glows. It can enhance the shape of your face or facial features. It helps bring back the youthful contours and fullness of the face. It can define and sharpen features which may be irregular naturally or otherwise. It gives a healthier face when you have lost extreme weight. If all you need is hydration and healthy looking skin on your face while you are losing weight or want to maintain your waistline as you age – the best way to keep your face healthy and youthful is with fillers and botox.

However there are a few contraindications & precautions as well which are known only to professionals. Like other procedures certain contraindications like allergic reaction to product, unavoidable blood thinners, autoimmune disorders etc. must be ruled out. Redness, slight swelling & mild bruising may occur which resolves in a matter of few days. There is minimal pain which is usually well tolerated. Headache, bleeding, mild nausea, dry mouth, rashes, swelling etc. are extremely rare unfortunate events. Sometimes it may cause bacterial and viral infections. It can also cause allergic reactions.Itching may occur on the skin which may persist and become a source of constant irritation. However it is generally an easy and comfortable procedure.

Results are natural when done at the Clinic & we do not try to smoothen out the skin completely so that there is no plastic look. Usually results start showing after about a week and last for approximately 4-6 months. However depending on the indication, dose and the strength of the injection the duration can vary. Welcome to Dr. Kumar's S-Thetics to have an experience that will raise your self-image & in turn happiness to another level. We at Dr. Kumar's S-Theticsare trained & experienced to use these injectables to give you amazing results.

Know More About Dermal Fillers!

Treatments achieved with dermal fillers!

As the skin on the neck is more sensitive than skin on other parts of our body it undergoes degenerative changes due to aging, sun exposure, weight gain, and genetic predilection. Due to the breakdown in the production of collagen and hyaluronic acid the skin is more likely to get dry and get thinner over time. As a result, the skin loses its firmness and volume and begins to change due to lifestyle factors and gravity.

Dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid-based products which counters the effects of aging and damage caused by the sun and smoking. It restores and replenishes the skin on the face, neck, décolletage and hands, resulting in a healthy, natural glow.

The areas of neck which need enhancement is injected with product rich in hyaluronic acid. It is injected evenly all over the neck with particular attention paid to the chin as well as the subclavian area to give you reduced wrinkles and a firmer neck region.

Dermal Fillers

Treatments achieved with dermal fillers

When we talk about fillers, most people have a notion that fillers only eliminate wrinkles. What they don’t know is that fillers are also vital for aesthetic facial feature enhancement. Injectable dermal fillers can plump thin lips, enhance shallow contours, soften facial creases, remove wrinkles and improve the appearance of recessed scars. For deeper knowledge, let’s mention the various facial features that can be enhanced with dermal fillers and what results can be achieved.

Cheek augmentation: When the cheeks are flat and lack definition, they can cause the face to look masculine. Simply adding volume gives them more definition and a more feminine appearance. Using the right type of filler in the right amount and injecting it properly can enhance the look of the cheeks and give them a more distinct angle as opposed to a flat, lifeless one. When using fillers in this area, the key to getting a natural look that’s not overdone is all in the technique of your dermatologist. The nice thing about using fillers to correct the cheeks is that you get to see the results right away. There’s also the benefit of collagen stimulation that you don’t get with a surgical implant. It provides definition between the eyes, cheeks and lower face, preventing overall flat-looking features.

Stay tuned for more treatments achieved with dermal fillers.

Try Fillers And Regain Your Lost Youth!

Youth is something which is associated with vibrancy and grace. It can be said that over the course of time, there is a big impact on one’s youth. No matter how much vibrancy a woman may retain as she ages, her youthful looks are often at the receiving end of time’s cruelty. But, of course, it does not always have to be that way, especially if a woman is willing to try out fillers!

  • Fillers are a very effective way to make a woman look younger and they are also very safe, as long as a person who is experienced is the one who is administering them. They are injections which contain a variety of components. One of the major ones happens to be Hyaluronic Acid. While this may seem to be just another name of a chemical to most people, it is very important as it is naturally present in everybody.
  • In fact, it is a sugar which has a pretty big part to play in terms of the volume of the skin and its condition. Over time, the elasticity of the skin and how well it covers the underlying tissues reduce. When a dermal filler is injected, it provides a boost of this sugar, which helps fight off the effect of ageing, and quite successfully so.
  • The material that is injected through dermal filler is absorbed over the course of some months by the body. As a result of this, it is true that a person who has chosen dermal fillers to look younger will face a need to have this procedure done again every 10 months to a year. However, judging by the radically beneficial impact that shows almost immediately on the face, it can be said that going through the process again is something that a woman who has had dermal fillers before will think is surely worth it!
  • One of the biggest advantages of dermal fillers is the low risk factor associated with it, unlike other methods. It is considerably safer than surgeries, which can have their own potential complications and also have longer recovery times. Apart from waiting for some swelling to subside, there is negligible recovery time for dermal fillers. When there is so much in favour of it, why not give dermal fillers a shot? They not only fill one’s face, but also fills one with the exuberance that comes with looking younger!

Dermal Fillers - Getting a Facelift!!

Dermal fillers (also called injectable facial fillers) are soft tissues injected into the skin. This is done to help fill up the hollowed and flattened facial features, smoothen folds and wrinkles, fatten the cheeks, correct bumps on the nose and forehead and increase the elasticity of the skin. With advancing age, your face loses firmness and volume of the facial muscles. A facelift is a non-surgical procedure which helps to restore and create healthier and more youthful features. Here are the things you should know about getting a liquid facelift with dermal fillers:

  1. The typically used dermal fillers are Juvederm, Reyslatine, Emervel, Radiesse and Belotero. There are several different kinds of fillers that are of different consistencies and volume.
  2. Fillers are composed of collagen fibers and hyaluronic acids (these come from organic sources) and a few biosynthetic compounds.
  3. A single treatment session takes about half to an hour.
  4. The swelling takes about 2 - 3days to subside and in many cases leaves no swelling.
  5. Depending upon the choice of dermal filler, the results of the facelift can last up to two years.
  6. The type of filler used, the depth to which they are introduced, the schedule of the sessions and the nature of the treatment - are all discussed and the factors are customized to fit your specific needs because each human being ages differently. Some people get facelifts to shape and sculpt a particular facial feature like the cheekbones. Facelifts are also done for sagging skin of the neck or drooping eyelids. They help tighten the loosening skin tissue layers of the jaws and chin.
  7. The fillers are not permanent and this is why they are completely safe. They can be broken down and expelled by the body naturally after a given period of time without any health risk.
  8. Restylane fillers can be used to treat dark circles, drooping eyebrows and remove bags from under your eyes.
  9. Defective structure of the lips can be corrected by dermal fillers.
  10. The advantage of a facelift using dermal fillers over a surgical treatment is that they can be altered with advancing age. Surgical solutions look fixed and artificial because they tighten the aging skin permanently. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!
