The most common cause is the use of steroid drugs, but it can also occur from overproduction of cortisol by the adrenal glands. Signs are a fatty hump between the shoulders, a rounded face and pink or purple stretch marks. Treatment options include reducing steroid use, surgery, radiation and medication. No single lab test is perfect and usually several are needed. The three most common tests used to diagnose Cushing's syndrome are the 24-hour urinary free cortisol test, measurement of midnight plasma cortisol or late-night salivary cortisol, and the low-dose dexamethasone suppression test.

There is no way to avoid. What you can do is. Whenever you conceive go to fetal medicine person. He/she will do a test before 15-16 weeks of pregnancy and if the fetus is found to be down syndrome then pregnancy can be terminated.

I am suffering from headache and also some eye dryness syndrome. What is the solution?

Dr. Siva Kumar 90% (653 ratings)

I am suffering from headache and also some eye dryness syndrome. What is the solution?
Headache & eye dryness could be due to excessive computer usage, called computer vision syndrome. Home remedies such as washing with plain cold water, applying cold packs to closed eyes, taking a short period of rest, usually helps. If you are studying hard/sleeping inadequately, travelled excessively, have cold or cough - reverse these events as much as possible, it will help. Give good rest to the eyes, take frequent short breaks during near work. Eye dryness may need lubricant eye drops, but I should only prescribe in private questions, not in open questions. Similarly, headache if not relieved by above measures, may need tablets for a short duration.

My Daughter suffering from abeniotic band syndrome. What is abeniotic band syndrome? What is causes of this syndrome? How can we protect our children from this syndrome?

My Daughter suffering from abeniotic band syndrome. What is abeniotic band syndrome?
What is causes of this syndrome?...
Amniotic Band Syndrome occurs when the unborn baby (fetus) becomes entangled in fibrous string-like amniotic bands in the womb, restricting blood flow and affecting the baby’s development. ABS occurs randomly. It’s not genetic, nor is it caused by anything a pregnant Mom did or didn’t do during pregnancy. To date, no prenatal factors have been associated with ABS. It is extremely unlikely that ABS will affect a future pregnancy.

Dear lybrate-user. Thanks for the question. Tourette's syndrome starts in childhood. It involves uncontrollable repetitive movements or unwanted sounds (tics), such as repeatedly blinking the eyes, shrugging shoulders or blurting out offensive words. Treatment may include medication or psychological therapies. Consult a child specialist for treatment. Take care.

Can a nephrotic syndrome child take salt in food? Is it harmful for him? How can nephrotic syndrome be cured?

Dr. Rupesh Mendadkar 90% (85 ratings)
MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Mumbai
Hello. A child with nephrotic syndrome should not be given extra salt in diet other than that is added in gould during preparation. That means he should curtail intake of pickles, papad. Once a child has recovered from swelling, normal diet can be resumed. Nephrotic syndrome can be cured by use of steroids under pediatricians guidance.
