You are indeed a heavy smoker and need to stop immediately. Initially it will appear difficult but if you are determined, you will overcome this habit. You are certainly playing dangerously with your life. Go to your physician and get a thorough medical check done with particular emphasis on your symptoms. When quitting, you must take one day at a time; though you must give up all smoking at once, and promptly. If you look too far ahead you will get discouraged and will give up. If you sit and c...more

You must try and try again until you succeed. You have to quit cold turkey because the body and mind will torture you endlessly while attempting a reduction in smoking. The tobacco tar in cigarette smoke lines your lung with huge patches that make that portion dysfunctional. Your oxygen carrying capacity is jeopardized, and breathing is impinged on. But don’t be discouraged because it is not too late even now to reverse all the ill-effects of smoking. I don’t know what other organs could be dama...more

Distract yourself. Do the dishes, turn on the tv, take a shower, or call a friend. The activity doesn’t matter as long as it gets your mind off smoking.
Remind yourself why you quit. Focus on your reasons for quitting, including the health benefits (lowering your risk for heart disease and lung cancer, for example), improved appearance, money you’re saving, and enhanced self-esteem.
Get out of a tempting situation. Where you are or what you’re doing may be triggering the craving. If so, ...more

You can stop smoking if you keep on trying. No one can predict the exact time of your death if you continue smoking. Each cigarette can cut short your life by 5 minutes, if that is of any help. You can judge for yourself with the following data: Summary: (Source: Center for Disease Control and Prevention)
• Cigarette smoking causes more than 480,000 deaths each year in the United States. This is nearly one in five deaths.
• More than 10 times as many U.S. citizens have died prematur...more

YOu have to stop both drinks and smoking. Only strong will power, determination, attending AA meetings and diverting mind when tempted will help you stop alcohol or may need professional help from a psychiatrist or de addiction centre. Try to do meditation and yoga. Read good books and listen to music and if you are believer attend Bhajans

Its good that you have taken that decision. The hard part is sticking to that decision. Motivate yourself to abstain and you can make use of nicotine gum/ patches.
Withdrawal or your craving will peak in 48-72 hrs. Abstinence is the key.

Hi, I am glad to hear that you have a habit that you see as life threatening. That is the first step towards solving a problem. Set small goals which is easier to accomplish. If you are a chain smoker then restrict your smoking to half the amount for a day. After two weeks reduce the consumption by half again. Find substitutes for smoking.
