Physiotherapy includes two treatments - Passive and Active. 

Passive treatment- It helps to relax your body and it also prepares your body for therapeutic exercise. It includes-

  1. Hot and cold therapies: Cold therapy is beneficial because it slows down the circulation. Thus it helps to reduce inflammation, pain and muscle spasm. Heat therapy increases the blood flow to the affected area which helps by increasing oxygen and nutrients to the affected area. It also removes the waste products created by muscle spasm.   2. Deep tissue massage: In this massage, the therapist uses direct pressure and friction to decrease the tension in your soft tissues, muscles and ligaments. This is the main objective of this treatment. The tension on neck muscles is build up due to the daily heavy activities.
  3. Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS): This machine works on nerve stimulation for reducing the tingling, paresthesia and numbness.
  4. Ultrasound: Ultrasound also increases the blood circulation to the affected part, which helps to reduce swelling, stiffness, pain, muscle spasms and cramping.  
  5. Traction: In this, the spine is stretched and mobilized so that you get less pain and then the movement becomes easier. This can be done manually or by using a traction device.  

Active treatment- This mainly includes all the exercises which improve your flexibility, strength, stability, and range of motion.

Do's and don'ts in Cervical Pain

Do’s

  1. Pain in the neck sleep in a straight position by spreading the arms sideways
  2. Use a small pillow i.e. Not more than 3-4 inches thickness
  3. Sit erect and use neck in erect posture in all your jobs
  4. Take rest or move about once in 1-2 hours in case of working in a constant position
  5. Rest your wrist on a table or the elbow on the chair while using the computer
  6. Maintain good posture while reading or working with computers
  7. Always work comfortably while doing any job
  8. Wear collar while travelling to avoid pain and deterioration

Don’ts

  1. Don’t put hands under the head while sleeping
  2. Don’t lift any heavy weight or do any strenuous exercises
  3. Don’t massage violently with analgesics, since it can aggravate the complaint
  4. Don’t use traction or collar or painkillers or drugs continuously
  5. Avoid cold exposures and cold bath

I am 29 years women, I am suffering from cirvixcits. I just want to know what does it mean and why does it come?

A cervical smear test is often known as a Pap test and is done to establish the changes that might have occurred in cells of the cervix. A small sample of cells is taken from the surface of the cervix and is tested for any abnormalities. The sample is spread on a slide or in some cases mixed with a liquid fixative and studied under a microscope. It is one of the most popular methods to test the abnormalities in your cells and can pinpoint point cervical cancers.

About the test:

A typical cervical smear or Pap test is done to identify the changes that have happened to the cells of the cervix. Diagnosing them early can be beneficial in many ways and can lower your chance of cervical cancerPAP smear or a cervical smear is a screening test for cervical cancer. For other cases, once the results of the cell growth are identified it is safe to seek other tests and medical options for diagnosis.

The procedure of typical Pap smear:

The test is mostly recommended when you do not have the periods as the blood can interfere with the results. Also, before taking the test discuss with your doctor about the medications you are taking and in case you are under any birth control pills. No other special preparations are needed for the Pap test. Feel free to discuss with your doctor about the impact the test will have on you or on the painlevels, etc.The test is done by inserting a speculum into the vagina, which spreads it further. Later, a cotton swab is inserted to get the samples of cells from your cervix. The cells from the vagina are also collected in some cases and tested accordingly.

The risks involved:

There no chances of risks when you go for such tests. You might feel a bit of pressure in your vaginal region and may experience a small bleeding after the testing. However, this is extremely normal. Also, there is no pain involved. If you experience heavy period and blood loss, you might experience minor discomfort when the test is being done.

The final result:

Once the test is done, the results would be available usually within a week. The results can be categorized into normal and abnormal. If your cells are normal and no abnormality is found then the condition is termed as a normal result. In the case of abnormality in the cell structure, then it requires further evaluation and diagnosis to rule out cancer.

The inflammation of the lower part of uterus in the reproductive system is called Cervicitis. This lower part of uterus eventually leads into the vagina in the female reproductive system in humans is called the cervix uteri or in simple words, cervix.

Causes: Inflammation in the cervix is caused due to irritation, infection or injury to the cells, which align the cervix. Any one of a number of infections, mainly sexually transmitted diseases can cause cervicitis, of which the most common are chlamydia , mycoplasma , ureaplasma and gonorrhea. Chlamydia accounts for almost 40% of the total cases. Less common causes of cervicitis are Trichomoniasis (Trichomonas vaginalis) and Genital herpes. Other than STDs, causes for Cervicitis include allergies, bacterial imbalance, injury or irritation resulting from pessaries, tampons, hormonal imbalance and even cancer or its treatment (radiation therapy).

Symptoms: Some cases of cervicitis in women can be symptomless. However, in most cases, symptoms are present, and they include:

  1. Persistence of gray or white vaginal discharge that may or may not smell
  2. Vaginal bleeding under certain conditions eg. in between periods or after sex
  3. Pain during intercourse
  4. Backache
  5. Difficulty or pain during urination
  6. In rare cases, fever or pain in the abdomen

Treatment: Cervicitis has no typical form of treatment. Treatment may not be needed in cases where the cause is not a sexually transmitted infection. On suspicion of an infection, the main objectives of the treatment are the removal of the infection and obstructing its spread to the fallopian tubes and uterus, or in case of pregnancy, to the baby.

The medical prescription issued by your doctor would depend on the organism, which is causing the infection. It may include Antibiotics, Antifungal medications or Antiviral medications. Cryosurgery, a process, which freezes the abnormal cells in the cervix using freezing temperatures, may also be performed by your doctor. In severe cases, where there is damage to the cervical cells, your doctor can apply silver nitrate (destroys abnormal cells).

Your doctor may also recommend your partner to take the treatment, so as to prevent recurrence of the disease and to avoid intercourse as long as the treatment is in process. Treatment is mandatory if you are tested to be HIV positive. Moreover, having cervicitis makes you more prone to receive the virus from a HIV positive partner.

I am suffering from back pain and neck pain from past 3-4 months. Intensity varies from low to high. On recommendation of family physician I had done xray of cervical spine. Below is summary of result: Partial loss of normal lordosis. Marginal osteophytes are noted. Vertebrae appear normal in shape, size and contour. Alignment is proper. Intervertebral joint spaces appear unremarkable. Spinal canal is within normal limits. Posterior elements appear unremarkable. Please correlate clinically. Normal lordosis is maintained. Multilevel marginal osteophytes are noted. Cortical margin accentuation and central compression are noted at multiple levels. Alignment is proper. L5-S1 disc space appears reduced. Intervertebral joint spaces elsewhere appear unremarkable. Spinal canal is within normal limits. Posterior elements appear unremarkable. IMPRESSION: Osteodegenerative changes with osteoporosis. Please help me to understand the problem and advice treatment Accordingly.

This is cervical pain (neck pain) and that's the reason the pain radiates until the shoulder blades. If you keep ice that would help and along side you can do hot water fermentation. You shall use cervical collar which would help you to reduce the radiating pain ie. Due to the nerve compression. Cervical spondylosis – chronic condition with radiating pain As your rightly said you have to go for traction and also you can do IFT. Please consult the near by therapist for quick relief. Since you have pain for more than 10 years it is suggestible to go for cervical muscle strengthening exercise. Use collar will definitely be helpful for him to maintain the good posture. And also cervical pillow can be used which might make you to have better posture of the shoulder neck and arm. Neck Tilt: From the sitting position, tilt your head down so your chin touches your chest. Hold this position for 5 seconds. Return to the starting position and repeat. Do this five times. Side-to-Side Neck Tilt. From the same starting position, tilt you neck toward one shoulder, leading with your ear. Hold for 5 seconds and then return to the starting position. Do this five times on each side. Neck Turn. Look straight ahead, then turn your head to one side, keeping your chin at the same level. Do this five times on each side. Neck Stretch. Holding the rest of your body straight, push your chin forward, stretching your throat. Hold for 5 seconds. From the same starting position, push your chin backward and hold for 5 seconds. Do the forward and backward stretch five times each. If any of these exercises cause severe pain or weakness in your hands or arms, stop right away and talk with your doctor.

आज का वक्त बहुत बदल गया है. हर किसी को हर चीज़ अच्छी चाहिए जैसे अच्छी तनख्वाह, अच्छा घर, लक्सरी लाइफ आदि. यह सब पाने की होड़ में लोग संघर्ष में लगे है. उन्नति हासिल करने के लिए दिन रात मेहनत में लगे है. इस लगातार किये जाने वाली मेहनत से हमें हर चीज़ तो बेहतर मिल रही है लेकिन यह हमारे स्वास्थ्य पर मानसिक, शारीरिक और भावनात्मक तौर पर गलत असर डाल रही है. हमारी इच्छाओं के चलते हम स्वयं को ज़रूरत से ज़्यादा तनावग्रस्त कर लेते हैं व शरीर को दिन रात काम करने वाली एक मशीन समझ लेते है. इस कड़ी मेहनत के चलते अति सामान्य रोग जो हम सभी को प्रभावित करता है, वह है गर्दन का दर्द. गर्दन का दर्द को चिकित्सा शब्दावली में ‘सर्विकालजिया’ कहा जाता हैं. यह दर्द लंबे अंतराल तक निरंतर एक ही मुद्रा में बैठे रहने, या पूरी रात ठीक से न सोने और कम व्यायाम करने के कारण होता है. कंप्यूटर पर काम करने वालो को यह समस्या बहुत ज्यादा होती है. इन लोगो को गर्दन और कंधे दोनों में दर्द होता रहता है.
मॉडर्न साइंस में सर्वाइकल स्पौण्डिलाइटिस का उपचार फिजियोथेरेपी और पेनकिलर टैबलेट हैं. इन तरीको से शीघ्र राहत तो मिल जाता है, लेकिन यह केवल अस्थायी राहत है. यदि इस समस्या का कोई स्थाई समाधान है तो वो है योग. योग इस बीमारी को जड़ से ठीक कर देता है. किन्तु एकदम से कठिन योग का अभ्यास करना सही नहीं है. कठिन योग करने से पहले कुछ आसान योग करने चाहिए. दरहसल हल्के फुल्के योग करने से धीरे-धीरे शरीर में लचक आ जाती है और कठिन योग के लिए शरीर तैयार हो जाता है. योग का एक सामान्य नियम यहीं है कि योग शुरू करते समय कुछ हलके फुल्के आसन करने चाहिए. इन हलके फुल्के आसनो से शरीर में उर्जा का संचार होता है और हमारा शरीर भी कठिन योगों के लिए तैयार होता है. यदि हम हल्के फुल्के आसन की जगह सीधे कठिन आसन शुरू करते है तो किसी प्रकार की परेशानियां भी आ सकती हैं.

* ग्रीवा संचालन
ग्रीवा संचालन आसन के अभ्यास से गर्दन से सम्बन्धित कई परेशानियों में लाभ मिलता है. जो लोगों को लम्बे समय तक गर्दन को एक ही स्थिति में रखकर काम करना होता है, उन्हें यह आसन जरूर करना चाहिए. इस आसन को आराम की मुद्रा में बैठकर किया जाता है. इस योग के दौरान गर्दन के मूवमेंट के अनुसार श्वास प्रश्वास करना चाहिए. इस योग क्रिया में श्वसन पर भी नियंत्रण करने का अभ्यास किया जा सकता है. ग्रीवा संचालन का नियमित अभ्यास करने से चेहरे पर कांति आती है और गर्दन सुडौल होती है. यह तनाव कम करता है और साथ ही शरीर के ऊपरी हिस्से को आराम और सुकून देता है. शारारिक तनाव के अलावा यह मानसिक तनाव भी कम करता है. योग में बल की जरूरत नहीं होती है इसलिए ग्रीवा संचालन के दौरान गर्दन को अनावश्य रूप से तानना नहीं चाहिए.

* बालासन योग मुद्रा
बालासन योग मुद्रा का अभ्यास करने से गर्दन और पीठ के दर्द से निजाद मिलती है. इस आसन को करने के लिए सबसे पहले फर्श पर घुटने के बल बैठ जाएँ. इसके पश्चात सिर को ज़मीन से लगाएं. फिर अपने हाथों को सिर से लगाकर आगे की ओर सीधा रखें और आपकी हथेलिया जमीं से छूती हुई होना चाहिए. अब अपने हिप्स को ऐड़ियों की ओर ले जाते हुए बहार की और सांस छोड़े. इस अवस्था में कम से 15 सेकेण्ड से 1 मिनट तक रहें. यह आसन का अभ्यास आपके कूल्हों, जांघों और पिंडलियों को लचीला भी बनाता है. यह आपके मन को शांत भी करता है.

* मत्स्यासन – फिश पोज़
मत्स्यासन करने के लिए सर्वप्रथम किसी समतल जगह पर चादर बिछाकर पीठ के बल लेट जाएं. अब अपनी कुहनियों के सहारे सर तथा धड़ के भाग को जमीन पर रखें. अब इस स्थिति में पीठ का ऊपरी हिस्सा तथा गर्दन जमीन से ऊपर की और उठाए. हाथों को सीधा कर पेट पर रख लें. इस स्थिति में जितनी देर आसानी से रुक सकते हैं रुकें. फिर वापस पूर्व स्थिति में आ जाएं.

* विपरीत कर्णी आसन
विपरीत कर्णी आसन आपको हल्के-फुल्के पीठ दर्द से आराम देता है. इस आसन में दीवार के सहारे पैर उपर करते है. सबसे पहले तो अपनी पीठ के बल लेट जाएँ और अपने टाँगों को दीवार का सहारा देते हुए पैरों को छत की ओर उठा लें. अपनी बाहों को फैला कर शरीर के दोनों तरफ ज़मीन पर रख दें और आपकी हथेली आकाश की तरफ मोड़ कर खुली हुई होना चाहिए. कुछ सेकण्ड्स इस मुद्रा में रहे और गहरी लंबी श्वास लें और छोड़ें. यह योग क्रिया आपकी गर्दन के पिछले हिस्से को मालिश जैसा फायदा देता है और थकान को दूर कर पैरों की ऐंठन को दूर करता

* शवासन
इस आसन को सबसे बाद में करना चाहिए. यह आसन करने में सबसे सरल है. इसमें शरीर को ज़मीन पर स्थिर अवस्था में रखना है. सबसे पहले तो ज़मीन पर सीधे लेट जायें और हाथों को शरीर के दोनों ओर रख लें, पैरों को थोड़ा सा खोल दें. इस स्तिथि में आपकी हथेलिया आकाश की तरफ होनी चाहिए. मांसपेशियों तथा खुद को विश्राम देने के लिए शरीर को इस स्थिति में कम से कम 5 मिनट तक रखे.
