Healing Wounds - How Homeopathy Can Help?

Cuts and bruises is a common occurrence in any household. In most cases, they’re ignored and left to heal on their own. However, some injuries can take a while to heal. If you think about it, you’ll also notice that when you’ve injured yourself somewhere, you tend to keep hitting that spot against things and make it worse. Homeopathy is a form of treatment that has negligible side effects and is very effective at speeding up the healing process for bruises and other wounds. Here are a few common homeopathic medicines that you should keep at home to treat bruises etc.

  1. Arnica: Arnica is very effective when it comes to dealing with deep seated bruises. It can also be used to reduce swelling at the site of the injury. Arnica can be used in pill form or applied in the form of a cream. However, arnica should never be used on an open wound where the skin is cut. In the pill form, arnica can also be used to stop internal or external bleeding.
  2. Calendula: Calendula can be used to fasten the healing process. Along with bruises, it can also be used to treat ruptured muscles and tendons. When applied topically, it draws out dirt and prevents infections.
  3. Hypericum: This homeopathic remedy is very useful in treating injuries and wounds that cause nerve damage. It also ensures that a bruise heals from the inside and not only superficially.
  4. Ledum: Wounds that are caused by a sharp object or formed as a result of painful injections or the after effects of an epidural can be treated with Ledum. It promotes the removal of pus and prevents septic infections.
  5. Staphysagria: Staphysagria is used to treat sensitive wounds where the tissue is lacerated. In such cases, the sphincters are also found to be lacerated and stretched due to foreign bodies. Staphysagria can also be used to treat extremely painful wounds.
  6. Phytolacca: This is an excellent remedy for wounds that have a tendency to ulcerate or injuries that cause soreness and can trigger tetanus. Injured fibrous tissue or osseous muscle sheaths can also be treated with phytolacca.
  7. Bufo: Wounds that cause the area to feel numb and which trigger muscle spasms that leave the patient unable to move the part can be treated with this homeopathic remedy. It can also be used to treat regional hematomas triggered by the rupturing of blood vessels due to the trauma.

Third-Degree Burn Injuries - An Ayurvedic Approach!

While most people recover from first and second degree burns without fatal consequences, third-degree burns pose a different story altogether.

Third-degree burns occur when the damage to the skin extends beyond the dermis, and perforates deep within the tissues. This sort of injury is the most serious one. For instance, injuries sustained from a fire breakout, acid attack, etc.

Symptoms include-

  1. Charred/black skin
  2. Numbness

The damage to the nerves caused by third-degree burns are so extensive, that the victim may feel very little or no pain.

Complications-
There are several complications associated with third-degree burn injuries, such as the following-

  1. Infection
  2. Sepsis
  3. Scarring
  4. Low volume of blood
  5. Very low body temperature
  6. Joint/bone problems

How Ayurveda heals third-degree burn injuries-
Burn injuries, especially of third-degree, leaves behind ugly, unpleasant scars. Moreover, such distressing marks can be traumatic for the victim as it may bring back horrific memories of the incident. Many times the person may feel hesitant to visit a doctor or go for a therapy. This is when Ayurveda comes to your aid.

Ayurveda uses therapeutic and natural remedies- essential oils, herbs and spices- to relieve pain, and helps you get rid of those burn scars. Some of the natural ingredients used in Ayurvedic treatment include-

  1. Use of herbal oils Lavender and Calendula helps in quick relief from burn injuries.
  2. An ointment prepared from red sandalwood, gairika, tugaksiri, and plaksa extracts can be applied on injuries caused due to third degree burn.
  3. Applying cucumber juice or Jatyadi oil on the affected area with cotton balls offers relief from the pain.
  4. Prepare a paste using mustard oil and henna leaves, and apply the same on burn injuries. This will provide instant relief from irritation.
  5. Prepare an herbal pack using, turmeric, amla, etc. that are rich in anti-inflammatory, antibacterial properties. This can heal burn scars and ease pain.

Apart from these, Ayurveda also suggests following a bland (without spices), healthy diet so that the injury does not aggravate the injury further.

Homeopathy Treatment For Infections

Infection is generally understood as the invasion into the body tissues of an organism by certain foreign bodies such as bacteria, parasite, and virus. They are transmissible diseases and can be transmitted from one person to the other via sneezing, coughing or physical contact. They can be mild, moderate or severe.

* They can be acute, that is, can last for a short time, or chronic that lasts for a long time, or a latent infection that may not cause any symptoms at first but reactivates and resurfaces over a period of time.
* Although each infection has its own distinct symptom. Generally, these symptoms include fever, swelling, redness, inflammation, burning, cough, diarrhea, fatigue, muscular pain, nausea, vomiting, rapid pulse or rapid breathing.
* If the patient has a severe headache, difficulty in breathing, painful swelling, and unexplained prolonged fever or a cough, he or she should immediately consult a doctor.

Conventional drugs that are given to treat infections like antibiotics, antiviral, antihistamines and steroids have many side effects on the human body . They, on one hand hampers the digestive power of the system, and on the other hand lower the immunity power of the body. In the long run, these medicines can have adverse effects on the body. Though conventional drugs suppress the disease for some time, the disease tends to resurface in future.

However, Homeopathy has been found to be a great success in treating both acute and chronic infections. The best part is that, there is no side effect.

Homeopathy also boosts our immune system so that the body naturally develops the strength to fight against infections in future, when foreign bodies invade. Homeopathic medicines have also proved to be effective as preventive measures against infections.

Some of the Homeopathic medicines for the treatment of most common infections are discussed below :

1. Throat infections - Belladonna, Lachesis, Lycopodium, Phytolacca, and Mercurius are most commonly administered to cure throat infections.
2. Skin infection - Common homeopathic remedies are Sulphur, Calendula, Hypericum, Silica, and Hepar sulfuris.
3. Bladder infection - Berberis, Chimaphila, Hydrastis, Apis, Cantharis, and sarsaparilla are commonly prescribed.
4. Stomach infection - Arsenic album, Nux vomica, Carbo veg, Lycopodium, and Pulsatilla are commonly recommended.
5. Sinus infection - Kali bichromicum, Pulsatilla, Mercurius, Natrum muriaticum, and Allium cepa work well in cases of sinus infections.

Most of the Homeopathy medicines are prescribed on the basis of symptoms observed. So, Homeopathic medicines are prescribed even before the definitive diagnosis is made. Thus, the time saved prevents the infection from spreading, and the patient is automatically cured rapidly.

Cuts And Bruises - How Can Homeopathy Help?

Cuts and bruises, which you may get from a wide variety of sources, is one of the most commonly overlooked issues that many of you face on a regular basis. Cuts and grazes can be treated easily with homeopathy.

There are many great homeopathic remedies, which deal with pain, inflammation and the general healing process. Here they are.

  1. Arnica: Arnica is an excellent remedy when you have a bruise on your body. It helps reduce the swelling as well as the pain, in whichever part of the body you have swelling on. However, it is worth noting that Arnica does not help much with muscle pain.
  2. Hypericum: It is worth note that arnica works best on parts of the body which do not have as many nerve endings. For example, the legs and arms are excellent places to administer arnica and it works very well there. However, it is worth note that arnica is not as good with parts of the body which have many nerve endings. This is where Hypericum comes in. Bruises to the fingers, toes and spinal cord heal better with Hypericum than they do with arnica.
  3. Calendula: Calendula is a medicine,  which can be applied as a tincture. A tincture is when a medicine is dissolved in alcohol. Apart from a tincture, Calendula can also be used as a cream, spray or gel. It can heal shallow cuts very rapidly in all of these forms.
  4. Millefolium: Millefolium is the best homeopathic remedy when there is excessive bleeding and the wound is not clotting properly.
  5. Staphisagria: This is another medicine used for cuts. However, it is worth noting that Staphisagria is a very good medicine when it comes to treating cuts which are deep or have a stinging sensation.

Celebrating Festivals With A Pinch Of Good Health!

In the upcoming festive season enjoy the celebration, let me take care of your health with a few simple tips and medicines.

The festive season is about to start with pomp and splendour and so is your preparation; however, your health should not be ignored. While you take care of your diet and exercise, a few homoeopathic medicines can help you enjoy your festivities and celebration with fervour without worries about your health.

Taking care of your little ones

The most excited of us all are the children during this time; be it food or the random fun during the celebrations. They may get easily affected and fall sick. A simple close watch on hygiene and regular hand washing can avoid cough, cold or throat infections. Children also tend to gorge on the festive food being completely ignorant of the consequences including indigestion. Parents should see to it that the children eat only warm and properly cooked food, only when hungry. The outside or the roadside food for children may further lead to diseases, like diarrhoea, spoiling the fun for them. Do not stop your child from eating sweets; educate them about the proper way of brushing the teeth and oral hygiene so that the child does not develop a toothache. Parents and elders around children must also protect the children from burn injuries, common during Diwali.

Throat infection, running nose and cough

The multi-tasking ladies

Leading the charge of the festive preparations, the lady of the house neglects her health. Continuous exertion and the hard work of hosting the guests can be tiring, leading to body ache and muscle soreness. Learn the art of planning and delegating tasks to all the family members. Fasting during the festivals and the anxiety can lead to weakness and headache; keep yourself hydrated and take enough rest. Don’t forget to eat fruits in your diet to keep yourself healthy while you fast.

Many women worry about their menstrual cycles during the festive seasons; interfering with nature and postponing your cycles can lead to heavy bleeding. Meditation and yoga can help you tackle the physical and the mental stress, helping you feel relaxed and enjoy the celebrations.

To look beautiful, maintain a healthy lifestyle even during the festivities; a bit of makeup will help you look good, perhaps, but staying alive from within is essential. Avoid cosmetics that may harm your skin and hair. Never forget to remove your make up with a make-up-remover, cleanse and moisturise the skin it before you go to sleep.

Engage with children by teaching them rangoli, cooking, drawing, making handicrafts for the festival to move them away from noisy parties and polluting firecrackers. The engagement will keep you active and keep away a headache and annoyance. If you are asthmatic, avoid the incense-sticks at home and switch on the exhaust fans in the kitchen when deep-frying to prevent cough and breathlessness. If you suffer from BP and diabetes, you must not ignore your medication.

Homeopathic Remedies For Burns

Burns refers to the skin injury arising out of exposure to heat, chemicals and electricity. Burns can also be caused by radiations (from sun or X-rays). Burns can involve just the outer layer of skin, or can penetrate the deeper layers and in the severe cases, even up to bones and muscles. When only the outer or superficial skin is burnt, it is called first degree burns. Here, the skin gets red with pain and swelling. In second and third degree burns, the injury involves the deeper layers of skin partially or in whole thickness, respectively. In second degree burns, blisters (fluid-filled eruptions) appear along with redness and swelling of skin. In third degree burns, the skin appears white or brown. In the fourth degree burns, the skin appears black and charred, exposing the bones and muscles. The third and fourth-degree burns are painless. The main complications arising in burns cases are infection, gangrene, pneumonia and nephritis. Third and fourth degree burns need urgent intensive care in hospital. The Homeopathic mode of treatment, however, is of great help for minor superficial burns up to second degree. The Homeopathic medicines, which are made of natural substances, not only provide relief from pain and swelling, but also halt any signs of an infection or old burns wounds that open up. Homeopathic Remedies for Burns
Homeopathic medicines Calendula, Hepar Sulph and Calcarea Sulph are the best natural remedies for burns where pus has begun to form or in medical terms, where burns have suppurated. Calendula is the top Homeopathic medicine that acts as the preventive agent against suppuration or pus-formation. If Calendula is used in the very beginning, the chances of pus formation are greatly reduced. Calendula also prevents the disfiguring scar formation and promotes healthy healing. When the pus has already formed, Hepar Sulph and Calcarea Sulph are very beneficial. For using Hepar Sulph in treatment of suppurating burns, the symptoms are offensive pus discharge with a sensitive skin to touch. Burning, stinging, pricking pains are felt along with pus discharge. Fever with chills may also appear with a desire to be covered up warmly along with pus discharge. Homeopathic medicine Calcarea Sulph is the most appropriate remedy where typically there is a yellow pus discharge from the burnt skin.
