Like 1) how long she has this problem 2) does this stiffness have on both the hands?
3) is there any morning stiffness? If yes how long that persist? 4) does she has mild fever in the morning?

Cold compresses can help reduce swelling in the area. Cooling also helps to numb sharp pain. Apply an ice pack for up to 20 minutes, up to five times a day. Use a frozen gel pack, ice cubes in a plastic bag, or a bag of frozen peas. Wrap the cold pack in a soft towel. Do not apply a cold pack directly to skin.
Heat therapy
heat helps to relax tense muscles and soothe a stiff area. It can help with muscle pain and bonny pain. Use a heated gel pack, heating pad or a hot water bottle.

It looks like gout arthritis you can take suggestion by consulting a good orthopaedician, however you can elevate the legs by using two pillows to improve the blood circulation and also it will help you to reduce the swelling. For the hand and legs to reduce the stiffness and swelling you can apply hot or cold packs to the affected area to reduce swelling.
